Chapter Seventeen
I follow the girl down the street, looking back at the abandoned building as it disappears behind more buildings. I really hope the bat doesn't come back and look for me. Now standing so far away, the building looks creepy almost like it was abandoned for a reason. Maybe that's why I had a nightmare.
We walk down the street, passing a lot of people on the way. Even here, they stare at me like they can tell I don't fit in with the rest of them. It's no different from back in my realm. Although I have to admit, the human realm feels lighter, more alive and comfortable in its own way.
I don't feel paranoid every time I walk past a human, unlike the vampires back home. Here I can walk without having to worry if they'll hear my heart beat or see me bleeding the color red. Because here in the human realm it's normal. Except my fangs, here it's definitely not normal and that's mostly the only difference between us.
The girl stops, turning around to face me. "Do you want to hold him? Puppies bring happiness." She smiles with her teeth, holding the puppy up to me.
"I've never held one before." I say.
She laughs. "Then this is the perfect time, don't worry Bonny doesn't bite humans."
Humans? I don't fit into that category unfortunately.
By her expression I can tell she's going to give the puppy to me whether I want to hold him or not. So, I smile and nod at her, agreeing to hold him for the time being. She stands on her toes gently placing the puppy in my arms as she guides me on how to hold him.
"He's a bit energetic."
I'm surprised by how soft he feels and he has quite a weight on him too. He must be well fed and nurtured for. Immediately I feel more relaxed, a calming presence falling over me as I hold him in my arms. He jumps up against my chest, licking my cheek, getting all excited. I giggle, turning my face away.
"See, he already likes you." the girl claps her hands together.
Eventually the puppy calms down the longer I hold him. We walk on the sidewalk, watching cars and people on bikes drive past us in a hurry. It didn't take us long to arrive in her neighborhood. Children were playing in the grass, people cleaning their garage and music were coming from a few houses down the street.
"We're here." she says and opens the small gate. They're houses were nothing compared to the ones I was used to. These were small with only one floor and a small front yard. The girl runs up to the front door, opening it before taking the puppy from me and putting him down inside the house.
"Mom we're back!" she yells going inside.
She sees me standing awkwardly outside. "Come in. I need the close the door so that Bobby doesn't run off again." she huffs and I listen to her, stepping inside. A lady walks out of one of the rooms, wearing a night gown and a towel wrapped around her head. When she sees me she freezes and put a hand up to her chest in shock.
"I didn't know we had a guest." she panics, feeling slightly embarrassed by her appearance.
"No. Please don't apologize. This is your home." I tell her. I don't want to make her feel embarrassed, she shouldn't have to apologize for being comfortable in her own home.
She gives me a smile of relief before, approaching us and looks down at the girl.
"Abby?" she asks, probably confused why I'm here.
"Bobby broke out of the leash. I ran after him but couldn't find him for 5 minutes. I thought I lost him until this lady helped me. She was so helpful and I wanted to thank her in some way. But then she told me she doesn't have a place to stay. So I was thought maybe we can let her stay in the flat?"
Her eyes widen. "Oh my. Do you have no one you could stay at?"
"They...don't live close by." I say softly. They don't even live in this realm.
"A young woman like you shouldn't be sleeping in the streets. I could give you the flat but... it's not in its best condition. I haven't got the money to fix it properly. The paint's peeling off and there's dust everywhere." She tries to explain.
I rub my wrists anxiously. Does this mean I came all the way here for nothing? Do I really have to go back to that building?
"Mom the paint's not even that bad. I'm sure she doesn't mind. And if the three of us work together I'm sure it'll be clean before tonight. We can't let her sleep in the streets again." The girl frowns.
The mother's goes quiet for a few moments and looks back and forth between me and her daughter.
"Are you sure you're okay with that?" she asks me.
"I'll help clean."
"It's going to take a while. I hope the two of you are up for the challenge?" she smiles.

After an intense cleaning session, the flat was finally suitable for someone to sleep in tonight. I have to say, they're one of the most kindness people I've ever met. Not just anyone will let a stranger into their house, less let them sleep in their flat with no costs.
The mother told me her name was Elizabeth and of course the girls name was Abby because that's what the mother called her earlier. Elizabeth brought me fresh set of clothes to sleep into tonight and Abby brought me dinner, which was still standing on the table, probably cold by now.
Food in general was foreign to me. I've never eaten something before and only drank blood which was occasionally. It has been in quite a while since I've last fed. I'll have to find blood somewhere eventually.
There's was a couple of furniture in the flat. A bed, a small table and a couch on the opposite side. The rest of the place is pretty much empty, making every little noise I make echo against the walls.
I go into to small bathroom and open the hot water, filling the bathtub. I'm so grateful that I don't need to us the bathroom in their house to clean myself. It would've been awkward. I strip naked, submerging my body into the bath water, letting out a satisfaction groan. Wow this feels amazing. I've been showering at the Academy every single day and the last time I used a bath, was back at the estate.
I lay my head back against the bathtub in comfortable silence. The only sound coming from the tap as water droplets fall into my bathwater. I bring my arm up from the water, inspecting the wound, the cut wasn't bleeding anymore.
Now that I'm no longer busy and alone for the first time since coming to the human realm. I couldn't stop thinking. I don't know if my sister's plan worked or if they have figure out I'm the imposter. They could be searching for me this exact moment and I won't even know until it's too late.
I wonder if he's looking for me or if he even knows I'm gone?
Will I stay here forever and be forgotten by everyone? The worst part is that I have no way to contact someone from the vampire realm.
With a heavy sigh I finish my bath and climb out, my feet touching the cold tiled floor and I reach for my towel when suddenly I hear a sound coming from in my flat outside the bathroom door. I freeze, my breath increasing as I quickly wrap the towel around me and quietly open the bathroom door, peeking inside the main area. The small light on the table is softly lighting up the place.
Strangely I don't see anything out of the ordinary. Perhaps something fell onto the floor? I open the door completely and walk to the main area, looking for the object that might have fell. Searching I glance towards the bed and is shocked to see who was laying on top of my blankets.
It's here. The same bat that followed me to this realm. But how did it find me all the way here?
It was breathing heavily, it's wings spread out over the bed and looks like flying here was quite a challenge it. It's skinnier this time, making me worry if it has eaten at all today. I go the table and pick at the plate of food, searching for something it can eat. I pick up something small and yellow and carry to the bed.
"Are you hungry. I have something for you." I ask softly, sitting down on my knees next to the bed to be at the same level. I hold it against its nose, it gags, quickly getting away from me.
I gasp looking down at the yellow thing, does it really smell that bad? I take a sniff; it doesn't smell horrible at all.
With a sigh I stand up from the floor. "Maybe Elizabeth has something that you can eat. I just need to get dressed first." I mumble to myself and walk towards the bathroom. I feel a gush of air behind me, goosebumps forming on my skin as I stop walking. What the hell was that. I'm too scared to turn around.
"I can't wait that long." a man says weakly. I spin around, knowing that voice. The bed was empty, the bat nowhere to be seen and instead the prince stood there, looking at me with a pain and hungry expression. He has eye bags, his skin falling into his bones and looks very dehydrated for a vampire.
I stop breathing, staring at him with shock and then back at the bed again. "You've been the bat this whole time?" I gasp, almost tripping over my own feet.
He swallows painfully, looking me up and down as his pupils dilate the longer he stares at me. I take a step back, wrapping my arms around myself and tighten the towel around me. I'm still standing here half naked.
"I need you." He breathes out.
"You...you betrayed me. I don't want anything to with you! You shouldn't even be here." I whisper.
His gaze hardens. "I didn't betray you. I can't even live a day without you. Why would I be so stupid and do that to myself." he groans in frustration. "One of the students saw you fighting with that boy. She didn't see your face, but she smelled your human blood." he leans with one arm against the bed trying to keep his balance.
She saw us? But how, we were isolated. He made sure of it.
He's still staring at me, a look of desperation and neediness. I've never been so exposed, not in front of a man, not in front of anyone before. His gaze was hungry, taking in every detail of me as he breathes in and out. I lower my head feeling embarrassed, wanting to run back into the bathroom and hide. But even so, I could tell he was in pain. He was so desperate for a sip of my blood and weak to take it at the same time.
"Let me change first." I say.
In a flash he was in front of me, pushing me against the wall with his body. The force surprisingly weak, but strong enough to push me back. The muscles in my body tenses and I stare at with an open mouth.
"I can't wait much longer. Your blood belongs to me and I'm taking what's rightfully mine." he sinks his fangs into my neck, using so much suction that I can feel the blood leaving my veins and grabs me by the waist.
I groan, placing my hands on his shoulders, trying to calm him down. He's feeding off of me like he has been deprived from a sip of blood for years. But even as I lose my strength, the pleasure of being fed on never goes away, it only gets stronger. I moan, pressing my thighs against his leg. My body wants him to feed on me, it craves to be close to him and it wants to be his only meal. Even when I'm still mad at him.
I tilt my head up, giving him better access so that he can press his head deeper into the crook of my neck and he doesn't hesitate to get even closer to me. The metal of his earing is cold against my heated skin and his hair was so soft, brushing over my neck, making it even more pleasurable than it already was.
I go limp, slowly sinking down to the floor. He moans, picking me up and placing me down onto the bed beneath him. I grab onto his upper arms for support, digging my fingers into his skin with the last bit of my strength, feeling his muscles pulse as my blood fills him. With a loud groan he pulls away, staring at me as my blood drips down his mouth.
My body shivers for more and I want him to keep going. "Keep going." I manage to say, my voice weak and sultry.
"I can't. Your body is at its limit." he breathes out, almost regretting his words the moment it slips past his lips. I know he wants to keep going just as much as I want to. He leans down, crashing his lips onto mine and I gasp. He takes the chance to slide his tongue into my mouth.
"Taste yourself." He murmurs against my lips. "Taste how perfect you are." Heat forms in my lower stomach and I clench my thighs around his waist. He grabs my hips, pulling me even closer to him, moaning.
I taste myself on his tongue and lips. I taste normal and not as magical as he makes me to be. His lips taste better, sweeter. I couldn't stop cupping his face and kissing him. This being my first kiss, I didn't expect to know how, but kissing him just came to me naturally. Like it was meant to. I wanted to touch him but my body is too weak to keep going, so all I could do was kiss him.
As time went by my kisses became sloppier and slower. I didn't have energy left and was close to passing out. All the adrenaline from the kissing was wearing off. Noticing this, he stops kissing me back and I could feel him staring at me as I keep my eyes close. The loud sound of his breathing filling the silence and our chests presses against each other with each of our breaths.
Then everything goes black.
