Chapter 19
'MrAdventure updated The Unsent Letters'
The notification was soon followed by the others of votes and comments. Time never stays the same for anyone, and Tanmay was yet another example of it. Readers thronged him these days and showered him with their praise. Such instant success scared him on occasions, made him wonder what would happen when this dream would be over. But then, a simple, "You deserve it!" from her clears all his doubts.
Yes, that girl, Riya, was the only one who can make him believe in his abilities.
It wasn't as if the others didn't try. Their lovely inspiring comments motivated him a lot. But only she could perform the magic his life yearned.
That was the exact emotion he tried to convey in this Unsent Letter.
A Letter to Miss Magician -
There are some people whom you want to forget the moment you meet them. And then there are the ones who etch their place in one of the chambers of your heart.
You, dear magician, you are one of the later ones.
It has been years since I've seen you. I was just a baby back then. A baby who was ready to admire the wonders of this world. A baby who was ready to explore each and every crevice of this world. And you, dear magician, you were among the first few people who made that baby's eyes go wide.
That day, you reserved a special place in that baby heart of mine.
I still remember that first glimpse I had of you. In that dark auditorium when we were all waiting for the first rays of light to hit the stage, there you were with a candle in your hand, standing right in the middle of the stage. When both your hands were wrapped tight around the candle, it lit up on its own casting a gloomy glow on your long and powerful face. It was hidden under the hood of yours, but sitting in the first row, I could see some spots of skin beneath the cloak of black. And the moment you jerked your head up to look at us, a gust of energy flew over all of us. You hadn't even started your tricks yet, but then, just your presence was enough to drown that dull auditorium in a wave of excitement.
Such was your charisma, dear magician.
That baby heart of mine admired in awe as you left the candle suspended in the air while you stepped back, your arms spread out wide. A gust of wind came from nowhere to blow the hood of your face and at the exact same moment, all the light over the stage were turned on. I'm sure those bright lights must have been really proud to reveal a beauty such as you.
Standing tall on the stage, your long slender fingers moved continuously as if summoning all the magic inside you. Your composed face radiated a cheerful aura while your eyes gleamed with a confidence none had ever seen. And then there were those fiery red curls of yours which set the stage on fire. You tried to portray a perfect devil with your head held high, but that smile on face gave away who you really were.
Yes, you were an angel dear magician. An angel who stole that baby heart of mine.
I don't remember what tricks you showed later on or why the audience clapped so loud for you. But I do remember how you allowed the darkness to engulf you towards the end. Just like the way you had arrived, you vanished in that smoke.
You got lost in that darkness and I got lost in your magic.
As I grew up, they kept on saying that when you're really into something, you tend to get lost in it. And now, even I've started to feel that phrase wash over me. Whenever the train of my memories stops on that show of yours, the only thing I remember is how lost I was in you.
So lost that I didn't even recognize you when you came back in my life.
But then, how would I? You shed the cloak of a magician, removed the hood of anonymity and tore off the veil of a stranger. You were no longer hiding behind a devil's mask. No, you were your one true form.
An angel.
I'm glad, dear magician, that you decided not to part with that beautiful smile of yours. Believe me or not, but that was the only link which helped me recognize the admiration of this kid. The only thing which could be traced back to that baby heart of mine.
I'm glad to have you back dear magician, I'm glad to meet you again.
My life had been trapped in the maze of sorrow and unhappiness. It needed your tricks once again to find the non-existent exits. It needed your magic to shed every leaf of that black and lush tree. It needed your aura to drown me once again in that exhilarating energy of yours. But more than anything else, it needed your smile once again to teach me back how to smile. I might be a slow learner, but I'm learning dear magician, I'm learning how to smile again.
And so, don't ever stop smiling dear. Don't you dare think of it, because I'd be watching you everyday. No, not just watching, but trying to smile back too.
Yes, now that I know who you are, I will smile back.
Yours,
The kid who knows your secret.
Minutes later, Tanmay's phone buzzed with notifications as that yellow LED blinked in sync. He was about to open Wattpad when a call stopped his advance. It was his friend reminding him of the farewell party they were supposed to attend. He had totally forgotten about it in the excitement of writing something after such a long time. For a moment, his heart debated not going to the party and cash in on his newfound mojo to keep writing more and more. Luckily though, his mind played the role of a wise man.
Wattpad ain't everything Tanmay. Life needs your presence too. Yes, the characters have the power to lure you in, but in this story of life, you are the main character. And here, no one else is going to write your story for you. Your strings are in your own hands. Dangle them carefully.
For the first time in ages, he agreed with his mind. Not wasting any more time, he kept his phone aside and got dressed. He was still fixing his bow tie when he heard a honk outside. He hurried out and wheezed to the party on his friend's bike.
The party was a hit. The last day of college made them all nostalgic. When he returned home, Tanmay channeled all those emotions to write another piece. But more than that, he was excited to read the comments on the last letter. Especially, her comments.
'You made me emotional this time. Made me remember the first magic show I had seen with my parents. Nice.' Read one. 'This was too good.' Read the other.
'I don't know about the others, but you are my magician. You never fail to make me smile.'
The last comment made him smile too. Though hidden behind that smile was a sorrow which only he knew. Riya still hadn't read it.
He quickly swiped his fingers to open Whatsapp and check her last seen. It was just an hour back. Which meant she was online. Which meant she must have got the notification too. Then why didn't she read it? Questions were plenty and answer none.
He was growing restless with each passing second. Finally, when the clock struck twelve, he decided to leave her a reminder. He would love nothing more than her message in the morning to start another beautiful day. So before he went to sleep, he left her a message.
'Hey, thank you so much for motivating me with your write-up. I feel so happy to tell you that your efforts have reaped some sweet fruits. I've finally written something after all this time. I can feel that block melting away. Read it when you get time. I'll be waiting to hear your views on it.'
He smiled reading the message again. That formality of 'when you get time' surprised him. With that smile on his face, he went off to chase the world of dreams.
*beep beep*
*beep beep*
The alarm woke him up as usual. Involuntarily, his hand darted towards the phone. He knew she was an early bird and she'd have replied to his message by now. He was like the child opening a jar of candy. Eager to wish her good morning, he opened her chat.
Indeed the message was there. But the words in it left him shocked more than happy.
'Hey. Good morning.
So sorry I didn't read the update. It's just that I've been so busy yesterday.
You remember I told you about my friend being in a coma? She regained consciousness yesterday. I'm so so happy you know. I'm so happy that I can't even tell you how much happy I am.
I most probably won't be much online today. I want to spend as much time as possible with her. I'll read the update ASAP.
And yea, congratulations on coming out of the block. I want a party!'
Tanmay didn't know what to reply. His sensible mind was happy for her, but his insane heart felt hurt. It was times like this when it got its best sarcastic side out.
Now that her friend is back, her priorities will change. I won't be her first choice anymore. Congratulations Tanmay. Congratulations. Congratulations on being promoted to second fiddle. And yeah, don't forget the party.

17th July 2017
"If you feel your value in your friend's life would reduce just because they've found someone else, then it's time to do a reality check of your friendship."
***
Yay, congratulations everybody. Finally, your favorite character is going to reappear soon.
This time, I want a party from all of you.
Well, why just a party?
Let's do something else.
So what do you think will Nat and Riya talk on the first day of their new life?
No, no, don't comment here.
Instead, why don't you all write a little shorty on that scene? I'd love to read your different perspectives on it.
Just tell me here when you do.
This is your chance of not just dancing with the words, but making music for them.
Are you ready to be a musician?
Whatever you decide, I'll keep making you dance to the tune of these words.
I don't have any questions regarding the story today.
I'm just happy with its happy turn.
Or, is it?
Well, stay tuned...
