☆Chapter 34☆

"Tonight we report some important news, ladies and gentlemen," the television blared out through their small yet cozy apartment. "On the morning of Friday during late afternoon to evening, a man has attempted murder to his hostages in the basement of his destroyed home."

As the news lady said this, Levi walked over and sat on the couch next to Eren, wincing when he felt his injury sting with a cold, harsh pain. He took sips of his tea as Eren took his hand and he felt him trembling slightly while listening to the news.

"Erwin Smith and Levi Ackerman, both twenty seven years old, were walking in the park the other day but were both left vulnerable when Grisha Jaeger, a man in his forties, shot the both of them with some kind of dart that paralyzed the both of them, making them collapse and unable to move. There wasn't anyone who was able to help them but there was witnesses. "

"Your last name is Ackerman? Are you somehow related to Mikasa? Why didn't you tell me this kind of thing if we've been dating for a few months?" Eren questioned curiously.

"I don't know...I didn't think it would matter and besides, it would we weird if you realized that you used to be the boyfriend of my distant relative."

"Now I feel awkward."

"Levi Ackerman attempted suicide in order to escape Grisha and to protect Eren Jaeger, the son of Grisha and the current love interest of Levi," the news reporter continued. "He claimed that Grisha wouldn't stop asking about the whereabouts of Eren, so he tried to stab himself so that the crazed doctor would never find out where he was living with Eren. In doing so, we fell unconscious and was thought to be dead once Eren found out where he was hidden. He was on the edge of death and would have died if police and ambulance didn't arrive any sooner."

Eren squeezed the older male's hand and bit on his lower lip, acting quite nervous yet curious to what more she had to say.

"Grisha Jaeger is now charged with attempted homicide and will be spending ten years in therapy and prison."

Levi cussed under his breath, he was expecting him to rot in jail for his whole life. He grabbed the television remote and switched it off, angrily throwing the remote at a pillow.

"Only ten years," he snapped as he set down his tea. "I call bullshit. You should have killed him when you had the chance."

"Calm down, you idiot," Eren said and thumped his forehead in a teasing manner. "Now he'll have to suffer with all that guilt building up inside him for so long. Isn't that way better than death? Besides, I don't think I could ever have the guts to kill my own father."

"Being on the same earth as that man disgusts me," Levi told him in a dangerously low voice, as if he were to snap any second.

"That's funny."

"Funny? How the fuck is not being able to kill the man who nearly killed your boyfriend funny? He poisoned you for crying out loud, you moron. He is a selfish man and he's unbelievable. He did all these reckless thing just so he could take your mother's will from you."

"Sorry, my what?"

"No one told you? When your mother faked her death she probably left a will, right? I don't know if it's real or not since she's actually alive now. You should ask her some time."

"That's impossible. How could my mother have a will if we were poor at the time she was 'alive'?"

"Maybe she meant to give it to you all this time."

"But I don't need money," Eren complained.

"You finished high school recently, right? Don't you need to go to college?"

"But I don't know what I'm going to do," he answered and frowned. "I never really put any thought into it, really."

"What subjects were you skilled at?" Levi asked him.

"Science, math, English. history, humanities, home EC, gym, music...all of them I guess?"

"Then be a teacher," he suggested.

"Levi, I hate children."

"Be a high school teacher."

"That's even worse."

"You need to work with the members of society if you want to survive," he said. "You can't expect yourself to have a bright future if you don't work."

"But I already have you."

Levi sighed but couldn't help the small grin tug at his mouth. "Don't be lazy, you asshole. I'm a doctor so I have to talk to annoying and obnoxious people most days of the week. If I can do it, so can you."

"I almost hate everyone."

"Ouch."

"I love you though," he added quickly.

"Thanks, kid."

He was going to get a job eventually but he just really hated the idea. Getting a job was part of adulthood and being one seemed absolutely terrifying. He didn't really think he needed one, but he couldn't just rely on Levi's for everything; he was already in so much debt to him.

"If you do get a job and make enough money, maybe we could move out and get a bigger place."

"Why the hell would we need a bigger place if there's only the two of us?"

"You're stupid."

"What the hell did you just say?"

"Think why I suggested such an idea."

Being the obedient person he was, he started to think why Levi would want a bigger home. Was he tired of living in an apartment? Their life was already the way it was in this small apartment, the only reason they would need if they were to move was if another person moved in with them, but Eren doubted that would happen.

Then it hit him.

Eren stared attentively at Levi, his beautiful green eyes looking at nothing but him.

"Levi..."

"Hmm mm?" he hummed in response.

"You..." Eren trailed off, smirking and even laughed a little, "you would adopt?"

"Yes. Why are you laughing?"

"It's cute that a person like you would want to."

"What is that supposed to mean?" he asked with a glare.

"Nothing, nothing," he replied and hit him on the shoulder. "I'm touched."

They stayed like that for a while, just staring at each other. Not in the creepy sense but the stare of longing you would give when looking at something or someone you just couldn't help but adore and admire and that was exactly what was happening. Ever since the accident, they decided it would be best to remain by each other's side for a while. Levi was no longer hurt but deep down Eren knew he was somehow scarred despite his strong will and personality. They were rather close to each other now; noses just inches away from one other and breath mingling as their lips grazed the other.

It would have been more than that if it weren't for Eren's phone.

His fingers fumbled for the inside of his pocket as Levi sighed and rolled his eyes.

"H-hello?" Eren stammered. "Mom?"

"Good morning, Eren," she said in a gentle voice and even though it was through the phone, Eren could tell she was smiling. "You've watched the news a few minutes ago, right?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Levi knows why Grisha was trying to find you, right?" she asked.

"Yes. He told me. Something to do with your fake will or something because he still believed you passed away."

"What do you mean by 'fake'?"

"Mom, how could you possibly have a will if you're still alive?"

"Yeah well I do and I'm giving it to you, silly."

Eren shot Levi a stare and rolled his eyes.

"Mom-"

"It's three hundred thousand," she said excitedly.

"Mom, this joke isn't funny."

"Eren, stop being so persistent and stubborn. I'm serious; this isn't a joke," she told him with a small sigh.

"Mom, I don't need money!"

"You need it for your future and as your mother, I am very concerned about it."

"That's what I told him," Levi said loudly enough so that Carla could hear.

"It's too much and I feel like that would be cheating. If I'm going to make money, I want to suffer while I'm at it because that's how life is, right?"

"You've suffered too much already since I left you with that maniac father," she said quietly and sighed again. "I don't want my son to suffer."

"Mom-"

"Eren," she interrupted, "it's the least I could do since I was crazy enough to leave you and I want Levi to have some money too since he took care of you all this time."

Levi's eyes widened. "Miss Jaeger, no need to be so generous. A simple thank you would be enough for me any day."

"Thank you," she said and laughed. "Now take the money."

"Mom, this is too much."

"I'm on my way!" she said in a sing-song voice.

Eren's mouth was left wide open when she hung up. His mother was pretty stubborn just like him; there was just no way to stop her. He was touched that his mom would want to give him such a big sum of money but he couldn't bring himself to accept it; he felt selfish because he wanted to work for money. He thought of it as cheating.

Eren frowned and shook his head.

---

"I have it in cash with me right now," his mom said as she flashed a smile.

"I don't want it," Eren told her curtly.

His mom arrived fifteen minutes later with a big smile on her face and although she was expecting her son to be pretty pumped, he was just mad and she and Levi could feel it in the air. Levi had made tea for all of them and they were now on the couch, trying to coax Eren to take the money.

"Why am I being forced to? I'm happy that you would give me money but I really can't accept this. It feels so wrong."

"Just think of it as your mother giving you money so that you can live somewhere bigger and go to college. Eren, I'm not giving you money just because it was supposed to be a will of mine, I'm giving it to you so that your bright future can be easier to accomplish."

Eren stayed silent. That was true, it didn't really feel like cheating anymore but even so it was just so overwhelming. How the hell did his mom get all this money?

"Mom?"

"Yes, Eren?"

"Did you do prostitution while you were away from dad and I?"

Her face heated up and she glared at him. "Eren, what makes you say such a thing?"

"Eren, don't be rude to your mom," Levi snapped.

"I don't know. We weren't very rich back hen so how did you get all this money?"

"When I ran away, I took some of your father's weird medicine and inventions and sold them and I also had to work odd jobs here and there," she answered and laughed.

"So this whole time he didn't know that, right? He wanted money made from his own creations...sounds like a waste for him," Eren said and laughed along too.

"So...will you take the money?"

Eren sighed and closed his eyes as he rubbed circles on his temple, trying to clear his mind. "I don't know honestly."

Carla fished something out of her purse and brought out a thick looking envelope, waving it in front of of his face.

"How about you? You still have money left, right?"

"Of course I do," she replied and grinned. "Take it, Eren, you stubborn boy."

More arguments broke out but finally and eventually, he took the money. The say money can't buy happiness but it sure was going to help with his future. There was many up's and down's in his life, many to do with Levi but that was okay because he knew they were most likely going to be fine and safe now that Grisha was away.

He finally felt safe.

Epilogue.

"Eren!" Levi called from the kitchen loudly. "Eren, where are you?"

It was a beautiful summer day but they felt no heat or the need to sweat at all. They had indeed bought a bigger place to live even if it wasn't the best, it was now home. A little six year old girl with short, brown hair came running down the hallway with her short legs and skirt flowing in the air.

"Daddy, I'm here!"

Levi turned around and grinned to see who had greeted him and within seconds later, a new face appeared. There, leaning against the door frame, was Eren with his tousled hair and tired looking face. "What? I'm studying."

"The fact that you wanted a girl named 'Erin' is really confusing me, Eren," he told him.

"The name is kind of like a funny inside joke," he replied and smiled. "And she's adorable."

A few months back, they finally decided to make it official that they wanted to adopt. Levi had to admit he hated kids but he wanted to agree for Eren's sake because he looked so happy and excited. They did a lot of paperwork and finally found a child to their liking, and of course Eren fell for the kid as soon as he saw her and he found it funny when he discovered what her name was, which left all of them confused whenever Levi called for one of them.

"I need to talk to you," Levi finally said. "Erin, I meant this Eren not you, kid. I'll go watch a movie with you later if you promise to behave, alright?"

"Okay!" she said and smiled and then left in a flash. At first she was very confused when she realized she was going to have two fathers but soon got used to it. She didn't find anything weird about it, just a little overwhelmed.

"What is it?" Eren asked quietly.

"All of your friends called and want you to drop a visit at the café," he explained with a distant look as if thinking of something nostalgic. "Also, the hospital called and wanted you to know that your father's getting a little better. It's not a lot, but it's progress. I hope that jerk learns his lesson. Mikasa called as well. You seem a little too popular."

"Alright, I'll be sure to call them all back later on. Is that all?"

"One more thing," Levi murmured and tugged at the younger male's collar, bringing their lips together in a soft and small kiss. They kissed almost everyday but each one felt like their first all over again. It brought back butterflies and the feeling of fainting and Eren thought he could never ever get used to this feeling.

"Hey, dad," Erin chirped as she entered the kitchen again. "What movie will we watch?"

Levi suddenly pushed him away and wiped his mouth, leaving Eren standing awkwardly. "Your choice, kid."

"Could I watch you play your League of legends instead? Other daddy said that you used to play it a lot and said that you were good at it and I want to see if he's right."

Levi sent him a death glare as Eren rubbed the nape of his neck. "I haven't played that for so long and it's violent for kids your age."

She pouted. "Pleaseeeee," she begged. "I won't get scared and the other night me and dad watched horror movies."

"Eren, you did what?" Levi snapped. "Why would you let her watch scary movies?'

"I didn't really have a choice. She kind of snuck in without me knowing..."

"Whatever," he said and scoffed. "Fine, I'll let you watch me later."

"Thank youuuu."

"You're a terrible father, you know," he laughed to Levi after she left.

"So are you, you asshole."

"Ahah! You swore and now you have to pay up to the jar."

Levi rolled his eyes. It's been almost two years since they've done the stupid swear jar thing and now they were back to doing it all over again and he's never felt more annoyed in his entire life. Eren knew he had a very bad habit of swearing way too much and he was trying to make him stop so that Erin wouldn't pick up the habit. They would spend the jar money on toys or books their daughter wanted and she was very pleased.

Levi loved how he still remembered small things like that.

"I love you."

"What's with the sudden mood change?" Levi questioned and raised a thin eyebrow.

"I don't know. Just wanted you to know that."

"Whatever."

"You're not going to say it back?" he asked sadly.

"I love you too, you annoying piece of shit."

Eren smiled and Levi decided that the thing that made him the most happy ever was when Eren smiled. His favourite word was his name and his favourite sound was his heartbeat. All of his favourite things involved Eren. He was so glad that he decided to pick Eren up for a ride that day in the rain, or else he would have never met him.

He would promised himself that he would always remember ever single detail that had to do with Eren and he forever had him implanted in his brain. He felt so lucky to have fallen in love with a irritating, bothersome yet kind and admirable person like him in the first place.

He remembered everything from the start to finish of when they first met and he could never forget how his car swerved

between the lines

whenever he was driving Eren anywhere and everywhere.

He was going to cherish every single detail.
