๑Chapter 29๑

It was a little too long since they last slept in the same bed for Levi was too busy plotting to find Grisha. Eren always thought it must be because of his job but that wasn't the reason why at all. Levi sure was planning to tell him soon but he just couldn't. How will he react? Will he be angered by the fact that Levi was spent sleepless hours trying to find that mad doctor?

The answer was most likely yes because Eren was safe and sound and he was fully aware of that so why bother to even try to find Grisha? There's was a chance that he would never come back to attack but then again there's was also a chance that he would because he harmed Eren but didn't end up killing him so of course he was going to come again to finish him off.

Levi wouldn't allow that.

--

The spot beside him in the bed the next morning was completely empty and cold and missing the presence of a certain someone. Eren patted the spot, somehow expecting Levi to appear back into place with a poof. He sighed sadly and got up into a lazy, slouched sitting position. He was a little upset how Levi didn't even wake him to even say goodbye. Has he forgotten him now?

The dim sunlight was shining through the curtains and it remnded Eren of Levi. By this point everything in general reminded Eren of Levi. He missed how he would be the first one to wake up and how Levi was a lazy asshole who didn't get up until it was afternoon on the weekends.

It was as if Levi were acting differently. Back then all he did was dedicate all his time to Eren and Eren only and it seemed like he had other plans now. It sounds pretty selfish but Eren missed those times.

Those times when Eren was on Levi's mind 24/7.

"This little fucker is hard to find," Hannes said once Levi entered his some what, cliché yet badass secret room.

"Any good news?" Levi demanded curiously as he took a few steps beside Hannes while he was on his computers.

"I have a few," he declared. "First, he is somewhere in this town and second, I stil don't know where he is exactly."

"Why is it difficult for you to fnd him if he's near where we are?" Levi growled.

"He keeps moving places and it's true because a lot of people have seen sights of him around town and in this area. Police are trying to track him down too but they're not even close to discovering where he was seen last."

"Well if you're also having problems finding that bastard, then why don't you have other people to help you out?"

"I do all the computer related shit first and then I have other people to hunt him down. I can guarantee that I am very close to finding him on the map. I just need a little more time," Hannes told him with a tired sigh. "If you're so eager to finding him, you should totally hunt him down with the rest of my men once I find him," he said sarcastically but Levi didn't seem to notice that he was only joking.

"Really? Okay I can do it."

"I was kidding, man."

"Yeah well I'm not. I don't want to be utterly useless in this damned situation."

"You're not useless, you just can't do anything to help at the moment because you haven't gone through training," Hannes said with a tired, quiet sigh as he rubbed at his temples.

"You make your men go through training? I don't care either way and I'm pretty sure I've been through training. I used to be cadet when I was a teenager," Levi said and winced at the memory.

"Really? That's cool shit. How long have you been one?"

"Started at age twelve and managed to go from cadet to corporal in under a month. I quit at age eighteen when I was captain by then. I don't think I learned much from that shitty place but I was taught how to survive and to use a gun. Also my parents forced me to do tai kwan do at some point. I may be a little rusty but I'll kick anyone's ass if I need to," Levi explained with a roll of his eyes as he crossed his arms.

"You're more impressive than I thought," Hannes chuckled.

"The fuck did you say, old man?"

"Alright calm down. I'll let you in this plan but it's pretty dangerous. Are you sure you're up to it?"

"I'm not afraid so of course I'm sure."

"Okay. Hopefully you'll get along with the others," the other man told him with a grin."

--

Being introduced to other people made Levi feel like he was back in school again. It was like those moments in class when the teacher forces you to say your name even though it was completely unnecessary to Levi in his opinion. He thought knowing the names of others shouldn't really affect the way or how much you learn.

"This is Pixis, the funny, old guy who drinks too much yet survives every mission we have," Hannes said and gestured towards an old man. He was completely bald which left him with an overly shiny head. The only visible hair on his face was a grey, curled mustache and faint eyebrows.

"I'm not that old, you bastard," Pixis snapped and whipped out a metal flask from his pocket and took a swig out of it. "and I don't drink too much."

"Sure whatever you say," Hannes said and rolled his eyes as he pointed to the next man. He had hair that reminded Levi of Eren's horse faced friend named Jean and had stubble just above his upper lip. He suddenly pranced over to Levi, bent his knees so he was the same height as the short man and took a small whiff. He later backed away and smirked to himself.

"What the fuck," Levi said with wide eyes. "Do I actually smell bad?"

"Ignore him. He always does anyways," Hannes told him and grinned. "Last but not least, this is Erwin and Oluo," he said as two men entered the liquor store. Levi's jaw dropped but he immediately closed it.

"Erwin? The fuck are you doing here?"

"Wow I did not expect to see you here at all. Plotting vengeance, my friend?"

"No I'm here to buy a fucking giraffe," Levi answered sarcastically. "How come you and Oluo never told me you had another job?"

"Well how was I supposed to tell you that I stalk criminals and capture them so they could go in jail? I doubt you would believe that."

"I feel betrayed," Levi mumbled his thoughts out loud. Erwin and him have been friends longer than he could even remember and they would tell each other everything like those stereotypical, trashy best friends would.

"Yeah well at least you know now," the blonde man chuckled. "Aren't you a little surprised that Oluo is a part of this?"

"Not at all to be honest," he replied. "He seems like that kind of person to be paid to stalk people."

"Excuse you," Oluo snapped.

"No fighting, boys, save that for later," Hannes said with a cough. "Since I have you all here today, I'm going to make you walk around town to see if you can find Grisha. Don't make it obvious that you're looking for him so I'm going to put you in groups of four, but since we got Shorty, it's going to be a group of three and two. Sounds good, yeah?"

"I'm not that short, you idiot," Levi commented and rolled his eyes.

"Anyways, pair up and explore I guess. I want you guys to look around the parks where the homeless are because that's where he was seen the last time I found him. If you don't come back before eight in the evening, I'm going to assume you're either dead or have been kidnapped and I will most likely call the police. Alright get going before he changes his location."

Everyone either grunted out a response or just nodded as the shuffled out of the warm store. It was raining outside and there were many puddles out on the sidewalk and Levi wasn't too eager to walk in the mess.

Without even speaking, Erwin walked along with Levi as Pixis, Mike and Oluo went the other way. It was a good idea for them to spilt up so that they could look at multiple areas at once which was good. They had to find him as soon as possible.

Their shoes slapped against the pavement as they walked in silence which was not awkward at all. In high school, Levi didn't have much friends and was anti social at times so he didn't talk much but Erwin was already used to it.

Levi didn't go out too often because he was always so busy with work and Eren and his house was a little far from here on foot, so he let Erwin guide the way. The polluted town was beautiful and had a city atmosphere to it. The place was decorated with places like the arcade, bowling alleys, book stores and coffee shops. This place felt like a cottage, even though it was outside.

Levi made a mental note to bring Eren here one day because he was sure he would love to walk around here.

Fifteen minutes later, they found their way to the park and walked down the damp paths. The sun was now shining through the gloomy, dark clouds and their were couples and families walking around the park as well.

Hannes was right about what he said earlier; there were a few homeless people here. There were a lot of decorative bridges bending over small streams with the homeless camping in the dry areas under them. Levi looked at them closely without making himself look rude. A lot of them were middle age and some of them even had children.

Levi felt pity.

He didn't recognize anyone among them to be Grisha but he still had to keep his eyes open. He was most likely here even though Hannes said he had problems tracking him down. Levi found it a little weird; how did that man managed to track him down? Did he manage to somehow attach a tracking device to his jacket or something?

Everything was unknown at the moment.
