1.22 Bloodlust Part 1
That was the worst day of my life!
I walked the entire day from one side of my dorm room to the next. I am starving. By the time nightfall came. Sleep evaded me. Leo only commanded me to my room but didn't tell me for how long; I could have tried to leave, but deep down, I didn't want to.
The hunger is driving me crazy. A harsh crackle of laughter burst out of me. It felt hysterical, which was probably because of the annoying desire. Suicide by starvation has been a stupid plan. I will not survive another day like this.
When I was human, I went days without eating. Back then, I thought that suffering was hunger. Ha! Humans didn't know what genuine hunger was. This is hell! I tried. I tried not to think about Leo... But I did, and not only that, he was in his bedroom this whole time with that Carmel!
I walk towards the door and put a hand on the knob expecting it to burn me as I did, so I twist it softly. There is a soft sound, but nothing prevents me from pushing it open. So far, so good. I take a few steps and feel relieved to see that I can do that. I run towards the cafeteria, straight to the fridge, grab a bottle of blood, open it, bring it to my lips... But I can't. God, I am so hungry. But I can fucking drink this cold thing. It would be accepting what I am, and some deep part of me would rather die than fully be a monster.
I throw the bottle into the trash can and leave the cafeteria. There's no way I will go to any of my classes as they consist primarily of humans, and I can already predict a massacre that will end with my death... Maybe I could pretend I am crazy so the vampires stake me. I know Elena hates me enough to use me attacking humans as an excuse in Leopold's eyes. As soon as it comes, I discard the thought. The guilt of killing humans so that I get killed in the process will eat at me wildly if I fail in the suicide attempt.
So I head to the only place I found peace in this dreadful hell. My Gym. I let all my frustration on the dummies, whom I broke after a few punches and kicks. I am a lot stronger than before, and it's clear that they were meant for humans, as vampires didn't need to train. I break all the dummies, and I notice the more I work out, the hungrier and angrier I get.
I am still determining how long it will take, but I have destroyed the entire place. I slid down on the wall until I was sitting on the floor. I bring my knees up and hide my face between my legs. And that's when I realized it had annihilated my hopes and dreams the moment Leopold turned me into this. Tears run down my face freely.
Reality comes walking into the gym smelling mouth-watering. Without my permission, I am looking at the source of the smell. I stare at the girl with a frown; she's known. She puts a hand behind her back and has a posture. She has midnight black hair, black skinny jeans, and a white tank top with boots I know have silver in them. She looks like a slayer, but that's impossible; I know there's a lot before humans can get into the school so the vampires can be sure they are not slayers.
She noticed me and left there whatever she wanted to get from behind her. "Hello?" She looks at the place with her mouth hanging open, still walking in. I wish humans had more common sense. See, a room was destroyed; it wasn't done by anything human; run like hell. The closer she got to me, the more panic I felt. I hugged my knees to keep my body restrained by my hands. Then, I stopped breathing immediately. I hope I have become invisible, and she couldn't- "I am new here, and I seem to be lost."
I look up slowly. "Turn around now and go away." I close my eyes, waiting for her to obey the command.
She completely ignored me and got closer to me. "You look like you been crying," I frown at her. That's a lie; my eyes won't get puffy anymore. The thought brings a fresh tear to my eyes. "Someone hurt you?"
"Who are you?" I ask with suspicion. She's acting like she knows me. She walks closer to me. I now can hear her heartbeat, and her scent wraps around my body like a Christmas gift. Every time her heartbeat, it begs me for a taste. Just a little taste.
"I said," but when I opened my mouth to speak, I smelled her scent so close to my mouth that I could almost taste it. My eyes widen in surprise to find her in front of me.
"Are you hurt?" She asks, sitting down next to me. There's a vein on the side of her neck that's pulsating. I can see the blood flow through that vein, and it's mesmerizing. My throat hurts like hell, and saliva pools in my mouth.
I can already taste the warm blood. So I got closer to her. A small moan escapes my lips. I never knew something so mouth-watering existed, not even when I was human. I lick my lips, and that's when she stands up and backs away from me.
"Please. Leave." My voice has become hoarse.
"You are not a vampire-"
I stand up and walk towards her, staring into her eyes. I know I can use compulsion, but I must figure out how it works. "Why are you truly here?"
She smirks. "You can use compulsion on me, Isabella," she says, touching the silver necklace hanging from her neck. I stare at it, glad. "So you are a vampire. Is it recent?"
"Yes," I take a step towards her, and she marches backward. Smart. I am glued to that little vein, mesmerized by the blood flow. Who knew blood could be so pretty?
"Have you fed?"
"From the blood that vampires have here-"
"So you haven't fed directly from a human?"
I blink and step back. "Wait, you are a slayer?"
"No time, Isabella; I was sent to protect you and convince you to leave the school before it was too late," she says sadly. "
"Well, I am a vampire. Are you going to kill me?"
She raises an eyebrow. "And you won't fight back?" I raise my eyebrows in surrender. "What if I can help you?"
I take a step towards her hand raised, and she marches backward. "Like be human again?"
"Look... We have experimented before. They all die at the end."
"But you might be able to turn me human?"
"Yes, but there's a huge chance you'll just die-"
"What do I do?"
"Well, for my safety. I can't be here. We must go to the woods; I'll pull silver on you and call for backup. We'll take you to our camp and," she purses her lips.
"Experiment on me."
"Yes."
I lower my arms and walk; she keeps her distance from me. I walk first with the girl behind me. She takes me to a spot where there is a silver chain. I turn and stare at the girl. "You were ready?"
"For you to be turned? No, but for trouble, yes, a girl escaped Leopold after you told her you would handle it. She was stupid-"
"No, she would have been dead." The girl rolls her eyes at me. "What now?"
"I tide you with silver to the tree and then call for backup-"
"Why can't we just go to your camp? We are wasting time-"
"I know we are, but we have to erase my scent and yours so we can't be tracked, and I can't walk you and do that. I need to prep you."
"Fine. What do you want me to do?"
"You understand I can't trust you, right?"
I nod. She walks backward, staring at me, and goes to what looks like a pile of leaves. She puts her hands on it, picking up a gun. "That won't kill me."
"It has silver bullets; it will hurt like hell but paralyze you."
"Why don't you shoot me and explain later?"
"You seem like you still have your humanity; I don't want to activate your vampire side."
"Ok, shoot."
She does. I gasp with pain as the silver bullet goes into my stomach. I stumble backward with a hiss. The girl runs and starts to grab the silver. I didn't fight and let her tie me to the tree. The silver burned through my skin. She takes out a silver stake.
"Ok, this part will suck. I have to cut you a lot to drain you of your blood, just like it was done to you when you got turned into a vampire. It might get your bloodlust into override, but by then, you'll be weak and unable to hurt me."
"Ok,"
She smiles at me. "You know this proves that not all vampires are evil."
"Yeah..."
She starts to slide the silver stake all over my skin. I let out yelps and hisses of pain whenever she does, and she's right. Eventually, I got weak, but I changed my mind. "Almost done, Isabella, this will drain-"
"NO STOP!" I growl at her.
"That's the blood lust," she slices another part of my body.
"You bitch! Stop." She did and stepped back, turning her back to me. She takes a cell phone from her back pocket, dials a number, and then puts her phone on her ear.
"Hey, we have a problem." She pauses. "Well, technically, no." Another pause. "It's not my fault; Liz shouldn't have left Isabella in this school in the first place!" Another pause. "Well, she agreed to get the procedure done." Another pause. "No resistance at all; her humanity is still there." Another pause. "I don't care if Lilith gets mad. I stiffen at the mention of Lilith's name. "Well, try this or accept Isabella as a vampire. We both know what needs to be done. How long will you guys be here?" Another pause. "That long!" Another pause. "Yeah, whatever, just hurry."
She hangs up and turns towards me. My vision gets blurry, which is kind of refreshing to feel weak. "I'm sorry," I murmur. "For calling you a bitch-"
"It's the bloodlust speaking; you are getting too weak, even to be hungry.
I close my eyes, feeling myself losing consciousness. The cuts and the silver on my skin are too much. "How long?" She doesn't answer; there's a loud tug and the sound of a neck being broken. I open my eyes softly to see Leopold stepping over the dead girl's body and helping me out of my entrapment. "Leo," I murmur. Once free, I stumble forward, but I don't make it to the floor. I am in Leo's arms. When I wake up, I'm in a car, and Leo is driving, moving fast and like a maniac. "Where are we going?"
"To the human world, you need a lot of blood, which is the only way to get it. I don't see where we are going; I rest my head on Leo's chest, eyes closed; he only talks to people, giving his name. Suddenly, blood pours into my lips; I open my mouth softly, drinking it. I can feel my cuts starting to heal and softly. I open my eyes and see a man strapped to a chair. His hand from where I'm drinking is the only thing free. I grab his hand and bite the man, screaming, but once my saliva mixes his blood, the scream changes to a moan. I drink until there's nothing left. I wipe my mouth, knowing it's not enough. "Next," Leo says only.
People dressed in police uniforms grab the dead man, and others bring another one and start putting him on the chair. I turn to Leopold. "I can't-"
"They have been sentence to death, I'll explain later." I lost count of how many people I killed, but it's a lot. Leo gives a guard a suitcase, puts his hand around my waist, and we leave what looks like a prison. "What happened?"
"I went to the gym to work out."
"Without feeding?"
Leo opens the passenger door, and I get on. Once we were both in the car, I talked again. "Well, I wasn't thinking clearly-"
"You should have waited for me in the room. How did that slayer get you in the woods and in that weak position?"
My eyes opened wide, realizing Leopold had killed someone trying to help me. "I went with her willingly to the woods-"
"You didn't know she was a slayer?"
"Yes, I knew. She told me she could make me human again."
Leo stopped the car abruptly and stared at me with a glare. "And you believe that!"
"Yes, and even if she couldn't turn me human, I would die-"
Leo growls. "You are forcing my arms again-"
"You can't choose for me!" I opened the door and started storming out.
"Isa!" He stops in front of me. "You can't just run like that towards danger."
"I told you. I don't want to be a vampire. Look how many people I killed-"
"They were going to be killed by the city anyway. You save them a lot of money, and on top of that, the police got a lot of money."
"Is that something I can do whenever I need to feed?"
"No. The only reason we did it today is because you went willingly into a slayer and let her try to fucking drain your blood!"
"She won't stake me right away," Pain crosses Leo's eyes, and he stares at me.
"Isa. Let me show you the way. You'll change your mind-"
"Will I? I can't wear my mom's leather jacket because it has silver, I can't wear her leather boots for the same reason, and her necklace." I start to cry. "I will never wear that again."
"You can still keep it.
"It won't be the same," I say between sobs.
"If I show you the plus side of being a vampire... Will you let me teach you?"
"No promises," I say.
"Ok, then let's get back in the car."
A/N: I listened to this song when I wrote" properties chapter. I love the way you lie. Picture it as if you're watching this book as a series, and it ends like it did this chapter with the song below. :)
