Two weeks later...

Nathan: "(shivering) R-Remind me to b-bring a j-jacket or seven next time!"

The group is currently shuffling across the edge of a frozen mountain in the middle of a blizzard.

Cate: "(shivering) Y-Yeah s-s-same!"

Gabriel: "Quit complaining. We weren't expecting a blizzard now of all times."

They can hear voices further ahead.

Adam: "(shivering) O-Or enemies?"

They get to a ledge where they can walk normally.

Jamie: "At this point I wouldn't be surprised. A weapon that can change form and elemental manipulation, a person who possesses telekinesis, telepathy, and teleportation, a person who can absorb kinetic energy and dissolve into shadows, and now a person can transform into a dragon... thing and create his own bombs."

Lucifer: "There's still two left."

Nathan: "(shivering) Th-That's why I-I'm scared!" 

They can see enemies just ahead and taking aim with silenced guns. 

Lucifer: "I'd avoid using firearms.

Adam and Jamie assume offensive stances, Cate readies her bat, and Nathan draws his knife.

Adam: "(shivering) O-Okay."

Jamie and Rocky have already taken out the few soldiers ahead.

Jamie: "If you can't take the cold, then just stay back."

They can faintly hear footsteps through the snow.

Gabriel: "You know that'll be impossible to defend five people and fight armed soldiers."

Jamie: "Who said I was defending five people?"

Nathan: "(shivering) H-Hey!"

Lucifer: "Then stop shivering and fight."

Cate: "(shivering) C-Come o-on guys!"

The remaining three push themselves forward to fight.

Meanwhile...

Eryth: "You did what?!"

Jack: "(smiling) I healed that wolf's wound."

Jack and Eryth are sitting in a large cavern with a blazing fire in the center.

Eryth: "You were on enemy territory solo?!"

Jack: "(smiling) I could tell how much Jamie cares about it and it would've died if it wasn't for me."

Jack stands up.

Jack: "(smiling) It's like what would happen if I lost you."

Eryth: "Jack..."

Jack: "(smiling) Plus, wouldn't it make things easier for James to solidify the side changing?"

Eryth: "Yeah..."

Meanwhile...

Nathan: "(shivering) M-M-My f-fingers a-are s-s-so n-numb..."

The cold is beginning to give most of them frostbite, but soldier numbers are dwindling.

Gabriel: "We need a place suitable enough for a fire."

Jamie is fine though.

Lucifer: "But I doubt that there's any dry wood within miles of the mountains."

Cate and Adam fall onto the ground.

Gabriel: "Damn!"

Nathan: "(weakly) We... needed..."

Nathan joins them.

Jamie: "Lost causes."

Jamie alone treks ahead.

Lucifer: "Can you place your name aside?"

Gabriel hoists Nathan onto his back, Lucifer supports Adam, and Rocky is dragging Cate along.

Jamie: "It's their fault for not preparing themselves."

They can see a crimson light in a cavern a little ways away.

Gabriel: "It's our fault for not realizing the danger."

They drag the three away.

Jamie: "(in head) You know why I'm here."

Jamie grudgingly follows.

Twenty minutes later...

Gabriel: "A fire?"

They have arrived at the cavern with the flame burning brightly.

Gabriel: "Only one person could produce a fire like this."

???: "Aw! You already figured me out?'

Jamie: "That voice..."

Jack steps out from behind the flames with Eryth on his right shoulder.

Jamie: "You're that kid from before who helped Rocky."

The three unconscious ones are set down along the cavern walls.

Gabriel: "Helped? The enemy?"

Jack: "(smiling) Glad to see him still alive and kicking around."

Eryth: "So you're the Lonely Thorn."

Jamie: "She talks?"

Lucifer: "Jack Yeweys and the emissary Eryth. A pair of inseparable souls."

Jack: "(smiling) Sorry that we couldn't be friends."

Jack pulls out his tome as Jamie readies her knife...
