CHAPTER EIGHT!
" Girl Meets Ski Lodge - Part 2 "
The next morning Sienna found out that Riley stayed up all night talking to the boy, Evan, who works at the counter. Riley's friends freaked out that she stayed up all night talking to this boy she just met. Once again, Sienna didn't see the problem. She had stayed up all night with Josh when they first started dating. Riley was a big girl and could handle herself. Plus Evan seemed like a great guy and she knew he wouldn't do anything to hurt her.
Sienna hopes that Evan now being involved will help solve the love triangle. The love triangle was a hot mess. All the drama had been driving her insane and she wished the three would just get it together and pick who they want. But that was easier said than done. It would take time, but hopefully Riley would pick and the love triangle would be solved soon.
Sienna sat beside Josh up on the loft part in the lodge. She had her head rested on his shoulder, her eyes closed and an arm was wrapped around his waist. He had an arm around her shoulders, his hand resting on her shoulder and his thumb rubbed against her shoulder soothingly as he read a newspaper he held with his free hand. Sienna lifted her head up when she felt movement besides her and lifted her head off his shoulder and opened her eyes, looking over to her left side to see Riley now sitting by her and Josh. She looked upset.
"Riley?" Sienna questions, a concerned look forming on her face. "What's wrong?"
"When do you start to understand your own feelings?" Riley questioned.
Sienna looks at her with surprised, not expecting her to ask that. She had no idea what to say. How was she supposed to answer that? Sienna glances at Josh, who has put down his newspaper and is now staring at the two with a concerned expression. She looks back at Riley, seeing the expectant look on her face. "Well," Sienna begins, thinking about how to answer. She wasn't sure how to. "Everyone is different, Riley. We all figure it out at different times. There's no exact time when you'll figure it out. Sometimes it takes awhile, sometimes it happens suddenly. You just have to listen to your heart and you'll figure it out eventually."
Riley sighs. "How is it possible Maya and I like the same boy?"
Sienna sends her a sympathetic expression, listening empathetically to Riley's distress. "It's tough when feelings get tangled up like that," She said softly. "But sometimes, feelings can be unpredictable. Especially when it comes to the heart. It doesn't always make sense, and that's okay. Because even if you don't fully understand it yet, if it feels right, then it's right."
"So you and Uncle Josh, that happened quickly?" Riley questions, tilting her head to the side curiously. "How did you figure it out?"
Sienna's cheeks turn a light pink and she glances over at Josh. His cheeks also tinted a light pink and he has an amused smile on his lips. Sienna looks back at Riley and clears her throat, a sheepish expression forming on her face. "Well, yes. I'm not sure exactly when I started to develop feelings for your uncle, but it did happen fast. One day we were friends and the next, I was developing feelings for him. It was a sudden realization and I didn't fully understand it, but I knew what I was feeling was real."
"But how did you know you liked him, like like him, and not just as a friend?" Riley asked curiously.
Sienna pauses, trying to think of the right words to explain. "I think I just started noticing little things about him that made me feel different. Like the way my heart would race when he smiled at me, or how I always wanted to be around him and talk to him. It was like my feelings for him went beyond just friendship, and I couldn't ignore them anymore."
Josh chimes in, a soft smile on his face as he looks at Sienna. "And for me, it was similar. I found myself thinking about Sienna all the time, wanting to make her happy and be there for her. It just felt different from any other friendship I had, and I knew I wanted to be more than just friends with her."
Riley nods slowly, processing their words. "So it's like.." She trails off, trying to think of the right words. "Like love at first sight?" She asked.
"I don't think it was love at first sight." Sienna admits, glancing at Josh with a fond expression. "I think it was like I realized my heart always knew, but my mind just needed time to catch up. And when it did, I knew that I wanted to be with him and give us a chance. And I couldn't be happier."
"Yeah, I agree with Sienna." Josh adds, nodding. "It wasn't like I saw Sienna and instantly knew I loved her. It was more like I started to see her in a different light, and the more time I spent with her, the more I realized how much I cared about her and wanted to spend the rest of my life with her." He confessed, looking at Sienna with adoration in his eyes. Sienna's face turned red as her heart fluttered at the look he gave her. She smiled shyly, looking down at her lap.
"Wow." Riley said softly, a soft smile on her face. She had never heard either of them talk about their relationship like that before. It was nice, to see how much they cared about each other and how they knew they were meant to be. Riley was still confused and unsure of her own feelings, but she hoped that one day she would find someone who loved her like Josh loved Sienna. Someone who would understand her and be there for her no matter what.
"But honestly, Riley, I'd be surprised if you and Maya didn't like the same boy." Josh admitted, gaining surprised and confused looks from both Sienna and Riley.
"Why?" Riley furrowed her eyebrows, looking confused.
"Yeah, why?" Sienna echoed, looking equally as confused. She didn't understand what Josh meant.
"Look, it's not hard to notice Maya's been going through some stuff lately." Josh responded.
Riley nods. "Yeah, she hasn't been herself in awhile."
"And why do you think that is?" Josh inquired.
Riley almost looked guilty as she answered. "Because she became like me. I always wanted her to be her and then she became like me."
"I don't think that's exactly the whole thing though." Sienna admits. "Yes, maybe she was trying to be like you, but I also think she was just maturing. She's growing up and discovering who she is, just like you are. Just like everyone is at one point or another. She's figuring out who she is and what she wants. It can be a confusing and scary process, but that's a part of growing up." She explained.
She had experienced that herself and she could see it in Maya, as well as Riley. They were growing up and becoming their own people, discovering who they were and what they wanted in life. It was a big step and it wasn't easy, but it was important. But she didn't like how others were acting about it with Maya. She thought maybe the others didn't realize Maya was just maturing and trying to figure things out.
Just because she was getting good grades and not acting like her rebellious self anymore her friends were freaking out and making her feel like something was wrong with her. Almost as if they were gaslighting her into believing she was turning into Riley. It was obvious though Maya lost a part of her recently, but with everything else going on, it was understandable. Sienna just hoped things would eventually be okay with her because she had been worried about the blonde.
"Exactly." Josh nods, a proud smile on his lips. He was always proud of his girlfriend and how mature and kind hearted she was. She always had a way of putting things into perspective. "Why would someone give up who they are to be more like someone else?"
Riley looks at them with a pleading expression that breaks Sienna's heart. "Could you just tell me?"
"Riley, you two been best friends for forever." Sienna sends Riley a small smile. "You guys care a lot about each other and want to share your experiences with each other."
"Yeah, that's true." Riley agreed.
"Everything you do is to protect each other." Josh adds. "When she gave up who she was, you went back looking for her, you got her back, you protected her."
"Yeah, but why did she get lost in the first place?" Riley questions. "Why did she want to become like me?"
"I can tell Maya has been through a lot." Sienna confesses. "And having a difficult childhood can be hard for anyone. You both have dealt with your own struggles, but you've had each other to lean on. And that's what's important. That you're always there for each other, no matter what. No matter how different you are or how much you grow up and change. You may not understand what's happening right now, but I'm sure it will all make sense eventually." She smiled softly.
"Thank you." Riley smiles a little and nods. "But I still don't understand why we like the same boy." She added with a sigh.
"You don't , Riley, you don't. She's been trying to protect you." Josh replied.
Riley is quiet for a few moments, taking in his words. She had never really thought about it like that. She knew she needed to talk to Riley. She sent the couple a thankful smile before she got up and walked down the stairs to meet with Maya and sit with her at the bay window.
Sienna watches as Riley gets up and goes over to the bay window with Maya. "I hope they figure this out." She says softly, leaning her head against Josh's shoulder once again. "They've been through so much together, they deserve to find happiness."
Josh nods, wrapping his arm around Sienna's shoulders and pulling her closer. "They'll figure it out, Sisi. They're strong girls, just like you."
Sienna smiles, feeling grateful for Josh's support. "Thanks, Joshy. And thank you for being there for me too."
"Always, Sisi." Josh presses a kiss to the top of her head, his heart swelling with love for her. "I'll always be here for you, no matter what."
Together, they sit in comfortable silence, enjoying each other's presence as they watch the snow fall outside the lodge's windows. They knew that no matter what challenges they faced, as long as they had each other, they could overcome anything. And with that thought in mind, they snuggled closer, cherishing the love and warmth they shared.
After a few moments of comfortable silence between them, Josh suggested he should go talk to Lucas, so he left Sienna and walked down the stairs to where Lucas is at by the fireplace by himself. Sienna didn't mind sitting by herself for awhile and took this opportunity to look out the window at the changing leaves. She loved fall colors, the way the leaves transformed from green to vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow always filled her with a sense of wonder and awe. As she gazed out at the landscape, lost in thought, she couldn't help but feel grateful for the beauty of nature and the moments of peace it offered.
Sienna's thoughts were interrupted when she suddenly heard Cory shout, "No!" She turned her gaze to the others to find Cory standing in the living room with the girls, Lucas, Josh, and Evan, who had a book in his hands.
Cory points at the book Evan had. "I remember that book! That book is evil. The first question is 'If you could change your mate into one animal, what would it be?' And the only answer is the falcon."
Maya tilts her head to the side. "How do you know that?"
"Because I am the falcon!" Cory exclaimed.
"Of course you are." Riley sighed.
Maya smiles. "Let's play."
Riley nods. "Let's find out who belongs with who."
Sienna wasn't sure how this would go, but by Cory's expression she had a feeling it wouldn't go well. Josh left the teens by himself, walking back up the stairs to join her on the loft again. He sat beside her and put his arm around her shoulders. She leaned her head against his shoulder, her eyes never leaving the group of teens below them.
"Are they okay?" She questioned, a worried tone in her voice.
"I'm not so sure if they will be after this game. But we can hope." Josh replies with a sigh. They sat in a comfortable silence for a few more moments before he asks, "Wanna go on a walk and check out the scenery? It's supposed to be a beautiful afternoon. Then we don't have to be around all this drama."
"Sure, let's go." Sienna agreed, sending him a smile. She wasn't looking forward to whatever was going to happen between the teens, so she was glad to have the excuse to get away and have a break from all the drama.
The couple stood up and headed towards the stairs, holding hands and making their way down the stairs. Once they reached the bottom, they head over to the door to walk outside. Sienna sent him a thankful smile when he opened the door for her, and she stepped out into the crisp fall air. She took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of fallen leaves and woodsmoke, and felt a sense of calm wash over her. The air was chilly, but the sun was shining and the sky was a beautiful shade of blue. Sienna turned back to Josh as he stood by her, smiling fondly at her. She felt her heart skip a beat and her cheeks flush as she smiled back.
"Shall we?" He asked, offering her his arm.
"We shall." She giggled, looping her arm through his. Together, they set off on their walk, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and each other's company.
They walked down a small dirt road leading away from the lodge. The road was lined with trees, their leaves starting to turn various shades of red, orange, and yellow as the autumn season approached. The sky was a brilliant shade of blue and the sun was shining brightly, warming up the cool autumn air. The crunch of leaves beneath their feet echoed in the stillness of the forest, and the gentle breeze carried the faint scent of pine. It was a beautiful day, and Sienna felt a sense of peace and contentment settle over her.
Sienna couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for moments like these, where she could escape the chaos of everyday life and simply be present with Josh. Moments like these were precious and she savored every second of them, knowing that the memories would last a lifetime. As they walked further down the road, the lodge disappeared from view, and they were surrounded by nothing but nature and each other. It was the perfect setting for a romantic walk, and Sienna felt her heart swell with love as she gazed at the man beside her. Josh was a special man, and she was grateful to have him in her life.
"I'm glad we decided to take this walk," Sienna said, breaking the silence between them. "It's so refreshing to get away from all the drama for a while."
Josh nods, squeezing her hand gently. "Yeah, it's nice to have some time to ourselves, away from everything. Plus, the scenery here is amazing."
They continued walking, taking in the sights and sounds around them. They passed by a babbling brook, its water sparkling in the sunlight, and listened to the chirping of birds in the nearby trees. It was a serene atmosphere, and Sienna couldn't help but feel her worries and stress melt away. There was something about being in nature that always calmed her, and she knew it had a similar effect on Josh. As they continued their walk, the conversation between them flowed easily, and Sienna found herself laughing at his jokes and sharing stories of her own. It was a wonderful feeling, and she wished that the moment could last forever.
After a while, they found a peaceful spot to sit and rest. They settled down on a fallen log, enjoying the tranquility of the moment as they watched the leaves gently flutter to the ground around them. "I'm really grateful for moments like these," Sienna said softly, leaning her head against Josh's shoulder. "It's easy to get caught up in everything going on around us, but being out here, surrounded by nature, it helps put things into perspective."
Josh smiles, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and pulling her close. "I couldn't agree more. Sometimes we just need to take a step back and appreciate the little things in life. And being here with you makes everything even better."
Sienna's face turns a soft shade of pink, and she smiles fondly at him while her heart fluttered. "I agree. I think everything better when we're together, too." She confessed.
She leaned in, placing a soft kiss on his cheek, but Josh had turned his head, and the kiss ended up on his lips. They both turned red and they both chuckle nervously. Sienna went to pull away, being stopped by Josh who reached up to cup her cheek. He smiled warmly at her, before leaning in to press his lips against hers. Sienna melted into the kiss, her arms wrapping around his neck and her fingers running through his hair. They shared a passionate kiss, their hearts racing as they lost themselves in the moment. It was the perfect end to a perfect afternoon, and they knew that no matter what the future held, they would always have each other.
