SIXTY-SEVEN
- Chapter Sixty-Seven -
"Don't go breaking my heart."

Elladora stared cluelessly at the stove in front of her, tilting her head and frowning in confusion.
The thought of making breakfast seemed like a rational one before she realised that she had never cooked in her life and had no idea to turn a stove on, let alone actually make something. Dobby normally made the family's breakfast but he was outside tending to the gardens like he had been ordered to do by Elladora's parents before they left so there was no chance of bringing him away from an order. Plus, his day had been booked up with chores that the heads of the household had set him so Elladora couldn't wait for him to be finished.
When they had baked over the Christmas holidays at James' house, both her and Remus had been taking showers after their food fight so she didn't see him put the cookies wherever they were meant to go. She just had absolutely no idea what to do with it and therefore could not try and cook whilst Remus was supposedly nearly done in the bath with how long she had been stood in front of the stove.
Usually, when she went down into the kitchens at school, there were rings of fire on the stoves but she didn't know how to make them appear. Maybe it was a spell.
"Incendio."
It was not a spell. Elladora jumped and yelped in fear as the whole oven set alight, roaring flames of orange lighting up the whole dark kitchen with a smooth hue. The heat came immediately, fanning over Elladora's face as she gaped hopelessly at what she had done before raising her wand to the oven again.
"Aguamenti." A jet of icy cold water propelled itself towards the burning flames and distinguished them almost immediately, she had done nothing but make a mess and was now back to where she started but with drops of water on the oven now.
She still just stood, pursing her lips and surveying the oven closer by getting on her knees and looking through the gap separating the oven and the cobblestone floor. There was nothing there to tell her what to do. Her shoulders slumped in disappointment and she frowned whilst squinting to see if she had missed anything in the darkness under the oven.
"Elladora?"
At the sound of Remus' voice, she went to look back at him but unfortunately she also banged her head on the oven, making her wince and ghost her fingers over it for a moment before standing as best she could and smiling over at him.
He must've only just come in since he was stood in the doorway, his hair was damp but not dripping and he was dressed in another pair of sweatpants with a baggy t-shirt on that she had put out for him before she came down to attempt to make breakfast, which obviously didn't work out.
"Hi." She groaned slightly, rubbing her forehead. "Uh, I can't cook."
Remus laughed, shaking his head and stepping fully into the kitchen whilst closing the door shut behind him. He was a bit nervous to be in her house, considering the colour scheme and the size but when he got down all the stairs and found the kitchen without much of a hassle, he felt a bit more relieved at the fact that there was truly, no one other than them in the house.
"That's okay, I'll help." He offered and made his way over to her and the stove which still had some water droplets on it and when Remus saw this, his eyebrows furrowed slightly and he looked to Elladora.
"Uh, I had a mishap and accidentally set the whole thing on fire." She admitted sheepishly, smiling awkwardly as he began to laugh, his mouth stretching out into a large smile.
He continued to laugh as he began searching the drawers before pulling a box of something out, he then took some sort of stick out of it and swiped it against the side of the box. A flame came onto the end of the stick and Remus lowered it down onto one of the circle things on the top of the stove, the circle set on fire although it was only a small rim of it, not the whole stove like Elladora had made it do.
"How-" She started, pointing at the circle and then back to the stick which Remus blew out, a small waft of smoke coming from it. "How did-"
"Chemistry." Remus shrugged with a teasing grin and she huffed out, defeated. "So, now we just have to figure out what we're having for breakfast."
"Well, I think the food is in the cupboards." Elladora said, going on her tiptoes to try and reach a cupboard above the stove. She had no idea why they were so high when a house-elf did all of the cooking and he was tiny, couldn't possibly reach them.
Her finger just skimmed the handle and she was about to wrap her hand around it but Remus had already opened it himself and she lowered herself back down and turned to narrow her eyes at him but he was just smirking as he looked into the cupboard. She rolled her eyes and turned back around, joining him in looking in the cupboard.
"You like pancakes?" He asked, shifting some of the things in the cupboard to the side so some ingredients behind them could be seen.
"I've never had them." She shrugged, she knew what they were of course but had never tried them. They never seemed an option for breakfast in the previous years when she was home and even that year, she only stuck with porridge or toast for breakfast.
"Pancakes it is." Remus nodded to himself and pulled ingredients out of the cupboard, putting them down on the counter next to the oven for later use. Elladora moved out of his way slightly as he went looking for other things, he seemed a bit awkward doing it but she couldn't help him seeing as she didn't know where anything is in that kitchen.
He finally found what he was looking for and pulled a pan out of the cupboard before placing it down on the lit stove. Like a natural, he moved about the room and got everything that he needed, smiling at Elladora sometimes when he caught her confused yet fascinated gaze. It was all quiet as he moved a bowl onto the same counter as the food before pouring a white substance into the bowl.
"Do you have a radio?" He looked over at her, talking into the silence with a small smile.
"I think there's one in the front room. Why, do you want to listen to the news?" She asked him and he smiled again, showing his perfect teeth.
"I was thinking we could listen to music." He suggested and she deflated slightly, she didn't really know how to make it play music seeing as she was only ever allowed to listen to the news that came out of it. She didn't even like what she had heard of the wizarding music that much, muggle music was far better.
"It's not a muggle radio." She said and he only gestured to her wand in her hand. "Oh, well, okay I guess we could charm it."
Remus poured what looked like sugar into the bowl and nodded at her with another perfect smile. She sighed quietly and left the kitchen, walking through the entrance hall and nearly slipping from having nothing but socks on her feet. Managing to stabilise herself before she fell, Elladora carefully made her way to where the archway for the living room was. She hadn't spent much time in the living room for the past seven years because it only brought back more memories of her brother and how they spent their days learning music on the piano and putting on shows for each other.
Their parents would never be impressed by their antics but as long as they weren't that much of a bother and instead educating themselves of something worth their time, they didn't say much of it. It was when Sebastian died that Elladora stopped playing the piano and therefore had no need to be in the living room, instead spending time in her room or in the library.
Walking into the room, the cool chill enveloped her mostly bare legs, goosebumps appearing on them from her ankle all the way up to where the bottom hem of her shorts were. The piano sat dusty in the corner, the sheet music tucked away in the small bookcase next to it, probably also collecting dust on the top of the pages and on the spines of the books.
Elladora gulped at the sight of it, frowning before not allowing herself to look at it anymore and instead walking over to the unlit fireplace where a small wizarding radio sat on the mantelpiece. It was black, much like the rest of the house, and had a dial near the bottom of it. She took it in her hands and left the room as quickly as she came in, willing herself not to look at the piano and instead stepping through the archway.
She was more careful on the way back, not even coming close to slipping until she was at the kitchen and about to open the door when her foot slipped our from under her and she fell but gripped hard onto the handle. There was a bit of struggle but she managed to stand up properly and enter the kitchen like nothing had happened.
Remus looked behind his shoulder nervously as he heard the door open but relaxed when he saw Elladora come in with the radio and place it on an empty counter. She turned to look at him and laughed at the spot of flour resting on his nose, her hand reached up to softly brush it away and he scrunched his nose slightly as he cold finger made contact with his nose.
"One smooth move." She said quietly and showed him the flour on her finger before turning away. Remus' gaze followed her and his stirring of the ingredients in the bowl slowed as he watched her face contort adorably into her usual adorable confused expression.
Her fingers fiddled with the dials until something came through, the news channel filtering through. She grabbed her wand and pointed at the radio whilst thinking of what she wanted to happen, soon enough a song was coming out of it instead of the droning voice of the news woman.
"- don't go breaking my heart. I won't go breaking your heart, don't go breaking my heart."
"Great song." Remus said approvingly even though Elladora wasn't the one who decided on it and he grinned back at her over his shoulder, still stirring the ingredients in the bowl.
"I think I actually know this one!" She said excitedly.
"Nobody told us." Remus sang along quietly and started to bob his head to the music as Elladora bobbed slightly on her own by the radio still.
"Cause nobody showed us." She continued and smiled into the beat, her body becoming slightly jittery as she bounced up and down excitedly.
"Now it's up to us, babe."
"Whoa, I think we can make it."
They continued singing together, starting off quietly as their voices entwined with Elton John's and Kiki Dee but then as the song carried on, they became louder and much less stiff as they began to dance around the kitchen to the song. Remus stayed near the bowl for the start of their loud singing but when he deemed it stirred well, he came away from it and started dancing around wildly. Purely to make Elladora laugh, but she didn't have to know that.
She had joined him, jumping around to the song.
"Don't go breaking my heart!"
Remus grabbed both of Elladora's hands as they both sang the chorus and they went around the kitchen together, bobbing their heads energetically and occasionally turning each other which wasn't that hard for Remus but quite a challenge for Elladora. Remus had to duck down slightly as he spun because she couldn't get his hand above his head otherwise.
"I won't go breaking your heart!" Elladora laughed as they split away from each other before he grabbed her hand again and twirled her towards him, her hand grappling his shoulder to keep her balance as his went around her waist.
"Don't go breaking my heart."
