SIXTY-FOUR
- Chapter Sixty-Four -
"Jailbreak."
Elladora didn't even try to sleep that night.
Her mind was running wild with anxiety and her eyes nervously flitted from her window to her bedroom door over and over again. If these people were looking for her, she wasn't worried about the fact she was the one they wanted, she was worried about the fact that they didn't know she was somewhat good so they could be violent when she would willingly go with them anyway. With Regulus of course and if they didn't take him then no matter how hard it would be, she would refuse and struggle as much as she could.
She was wearing her white night dress, short-sleeved and long enough to reach her ankles. Her hair was loose and travelling down to her waist with no extra style in it. After Evan had taken her away from the party and left her room again, she changed into her bed clothes but just settled on pacing around her room. She always thought that pacing was exaggerative and it didn't actually help with anything but surprisingly it did help her focus.
"Alchemy, broomstick, cauldron, dragon..." She was muttering to herself, a good rhyme that Sirius had taught her and she remembered him telling her that it helped him in his rare anxiety attacks and it could be of use to her and he was right, it was working. "Eye, frog, goblin, hat, invisibility cloak, jelly beans, keys, lightning, mushroom, night, owl, pumpkin, quill, rabbit, snake, toad, unicorn, valkyrie, witch-"
"Miss." A squeaky voice came from her left and she paused in her pacing to turn and face Dobby who had opened her bedroom door.
"Hi, Dobby." She smiled at him unsurely, fiddling with her hands and going to sit down on her bed instead of walking around the room. "Are you okay?"
He didn't reply and just looked back at the bedroom door with his watery eyes before turning back around to face her. His hands were wringing together awkwardly and he scuffed his bare, dirty feet against the floor with a small whimper.
"Dobby has been asked to deliver some news to Miss." He said and Elladora furrowed her eyebrows together slightly, prompting him to go on. "Dobby has been told that master and mistress will both be leaving tomorrow morning for a week, they will say goodbye tomorrow but they asked I tell you now."
"They're...leaving?" Elladora stood from her bed, walking closer to Dobby who cowered away slightly and she immediately stopped her advances, frowning at the fear she had inflicted. "I'm sorry. I would never hurt you."
"Dobby knows." The house-elf nodded, still wringing his hands together. "Dobby knows but he sometimes cannot help it, miss. I will be going now, everyone has left the house so it is only you and your parents and the man in the basement." He put extra emphasis on the last part and she straightened up carefully,
"Oh...okay thanks Dobby."
The elf nod his head and scurried out with one last wide-eyed, silently pleading look at Elladora. The door to her bedroom shut with a click and she was left alone with her thoughts once more. The man in the basement. Sturgis Podmore, Evan had guessed, a similar attitude to Sirius from what she had heard before she had gotten dragged away from the party. She knows exactly how to handle something like that and if her parents are going out of the house for a whole week then they wouldn't know if here to be say...set free.
She became giddy with the mere thought, smiling half-heartedly to herself. Giddy yet nervous, if she were to help Podmore get free and someone found out then she would be in for it but her giddiness was fuelled by the mere adrenaline of doing something exciting again. This was the feeling she normally got before carrying out a prank with the boys and it only made her miss them more.
But that only persuaded her to do it more.
Internal conflict, she had never been good with it. It pulled her in all different directions and she often ended up doing something completely off the books but this was something bigger then a case of choosing between two books. How would she even pull it off without getting caught?
"This is not going to go well." She mumbled to herself, returning to her pacing around her room before her eyes landed on her window and they widened largely. Her feet stopped their pacing and she raced over to her bay window, looking out of the glass that showed her the large gates surrounding the house, more specifically the fake piece of gate that was actually a door.
Sebastian had done it the last time their parents had left them alone in the house, it was to allow them a safe way out of the house and into the woods beside their house which stretched out along acres and acres of land. Elladora and Sebastian had once made a pact to explore all of the woods but he died before they could and she's only stepped in it one time since.
A smile stretched onto her face as she planned it all out in her head for a couple of seconds, being around the boys had really made her into some sort of mischievous mastermind and yet there was still the underlying threat of being caught.
Her wand lay still on her bedside table, she hadn't been planning to touch it at all that night but her plan had become far too good and maybe just a little bit of rebellion could be good for her after all of this evil she'd be plummeted into. A hand wrapped tightly around it and she took it slowly, making her way towards her bedroom door. Dobby had said that her parents were asleep so she could only trust the small elf.
Slow and silent, she opened her door into the familiar dark hallway. A lot of her confidence was washed away by the sudden darkness but she just bit her lip and went on, shutting the door steadily behind her and beginning to creep her normal way down the hallway towards the staircase that lead down to the entrance hall. She was smothered in deep regret as she got to the top of the stairs and her bare feet padded down the hard material as quick as possible.
The lack of shoes made it easier for her to get down the stairs with making little to no noise and her dress wafted in the air around her ankles whilst she ran. Adrenaline was coursing through her as she ran, breathing heavily whilst her chest heaved up and down repetitively.
"Bad idea, bad idea." She whispered to herself, shaking her head but she didn't turn back.
Instead, she carried on around a corner into another small hallway with a door at the end. She had never been through that door before but she guessed that it was the one leading to the basement since she'd never been down there before either. The hallway was just as dark as the rest of the house, creepier since it was a long one with a singular door at the end but she put it behind her and gripped her wand tightly, walking towards the door again.
It creaked as it opened and her face screwed up into a grimace at the noise it echoed. She didn't think they would be able to hear it considering they slept on the top floor, Regulus hearing it was always a possibility but she knew he wasn't likely to snitch. The staircase down into the basement was darker than dark and she muttered a quick 'lumos' and watched as her wand lit up with a ball of light in front of her.
She left the door open so it wouldn't creak again and began her descent down to the basement. As she got further down, a soft humming echoed and it eventually bled into a small singing voice.
"Mamma Mia, here I go again...My, my, how can I resist you?"
Her eyebrows furrowed together in confusion as she walked the way the hallway was turning, leaving her no other way to go. The voice got louder as she went further again.
"Mamma Mia, now I really know...my my, I could never let you go- oh, hello."
Elladora came face to face with the same blonde man who had been caught at the party. The ball of light shone brightly on the side of his face that was facing her. He was sat on the floor of an odd cell thing with his back against the wall and he didn't seem bothered by her presence, more bored. Her mouth lifted into an unsure smile at him and she lifted a hand in a half-hearted wave.
A couple moments of awkward silence passed between the two, when Elladora had thought that she might be able to talk to him because he seemed like Sirius, she was wrong. This was beyond awkward and she didn't know what to do.
"So, what brings you here?" The man spoke up first instead, lulling his head back so it leant against the wall behind him. "You going to kill me? Torture me?"
"Jailbreak." She said with a casual shrug and he snorted, breaking out into laughter as she stood and watched him. He turned his head to face her and just by the way he looked she could tell he was only two years older than her, Evan's age. It was a young shape with a soft yet defined jawline.
"You know, I don't believe you." He told her.
"Well, it's true." She straightened up and tilted her head at him, pursing her lips. He wasn't bothered by the bright light in his face and just tried to squint to see the face behind it.
"The mark on your arm says otherwise." He retorted and she froze.
He had struck a nerve, he knew she did and his eyebrows raised slightly, a smile threatening to tug at his lips. Elladora gulped and took a breath before starting to speak to the man again with a small scowl.
"Tell me," She started and he let his smile show this time. "What house were you in at school?"
"Gryffindor."
"Of course." She rolled her eyes to herself, of course she had nothing against Gryffindors. Her best friends were Gryffindors but it seemed that every good guy was in Gryffindor and every bad guy was in Slytherin, just adding to the stereotypes. "Anyway, if a Slytherin came up to you and was actually nice, had to believe I know, would you send them away? Or let them be nice to you and maybe gain a new friend?"
"Let them be nice, I guess." The man shrugged before turning to look at her again and seeing her raised eyebrows, he let out a soft 'oh' and grinned at the light hiding her face. "I see what you did there. If you really want to help me, what are you waiting for?"
"Alohamora."
The lock to the cell came undone immediately, falling to the ground with a small clash. The man pushed himself up off the floor and stared down at the lock in shock before looking up at Elladora with wide eyes. She smiled to herself and slid the rest of the cell door open as the man's lips parted with shock.
"Damn, I thought you were kidding."
"Nope." She shook her head and he laughed slightly, shaking his head. "You would've thought they'd make the lock harder to unlock."
Sturgis hummed in agreement, jerking his head in a nod and Elladora turned to face him, the bright light shining into his face and making his eyes shut tight as he groaned. She apologised softly and lowered her wand so the light was dimmer but they could both see more clearly.
"Okay, we need to go quickly." She said and he nodded quickly, following behind her as she walked back the way she came.
Back up the dark staircase they went, Elladora shutting the door slowly behind them as it creaked again but there wasn't any disturbance from the one before so she wasn't that worried. Sturgis seemed to have a problem with keeping quiet and she had to use the silencing charm on him to prevent him from giving them away, he slapped his hands at her shoulder the rest of the way up the stairs to get her attention but after a deadly glare, he stopped ad just followed her quietly.
He was wearing his shoes so they had to go slower up the stairs and slow down the hallway towards her bedroom where she all but shoved him inside and shut the door with another small click behind her. She breathed out in relief before turning to face him to see he was trying to speak but the silencing charm prevented him from doing so.
She quickly removed it and moved over to the window.
"You know, at first you seemed like great company but now I'm just not seeing it." He spoke and watched curiously as she opened her window, a cold breeze wafting through it almost immediately and making the curtains ripple.
"Can you catch people?" She asked curiously, turning around with her eyes narrowed inquisitively.
"Catch people as in...?"
"If I were to lower you down and then jump out of the window, would you be able to catch me?" She asked with a quick eye roll and Sturgis' eyes nearly popped out of his head as he glanced in between her and the open window behind her.
"You want me to jump out of the window?" He asked with a disbelieving laugh.
"No." She groaned again with an eye roll, just wanting this over before the sun rises and her parents catch her with their intended prisoner. "I'm going to jump out of the window, I was going to lower you down before hand so you could catch me."
He didn't have much to say about it anymore and just listened to whatever she had to say as she cast arresto momentum and watched as he fell quickly but stopped an inch from the ground before hitting it with a thud and a soft groan. Sturgis stood and ran a hand through his hair before looking up to where she was staring at him from her window. He grinned teasingly, one very familiar to Sirius', before opening his arms dramatically.
Without any hesitation, she launched herself out of the window and landed quickly in his arms. He stumbled back slightly but when she jumped back off of him, he regained his footing.
"Can you slow down?" He complained as she set off forward towards the gate where the hidden door was. "This is all going too fast."
"Do you want help or not?" She whirled around dangerously and glared at him, whispering. "Be grateful because I could get in some serious trouble for this." The light from her wand went out before she waved it again and what was the bottom of the gate, morphed into a wooden door and Sturgis' mouth dropped open.
"Now, go." She ordered, ushering him quickly.
With a grin, he opened the door and slipped through but before he shut it behind him, he turned and cupped Elladora's cheeks and pulled her close so he could plant a kiss on her right cheek. Her eyes widened in shock of the affection from a mere stranger but he only grinned cockily, once again reminding her of Sirius.
"What? You didn't see that coming?"
Before she could say anything more, he had ran off into the woods as fast as he could and shut the door behind him. It morphed quickly back into the gate and she sighed in distress, she never would've bothered if she knew that he would cause her this much trouble. At least now he was safe and due to the fact she was still alive, she guessed that this didn't go against her unbreakable vow.
Nothing more to do, she turned around to walk slowly back up to her house and stopped under her window ready to cast a spell that would get her back up but before she could, a large howl came from the woods and it made her turn her head abruptly. A loud swear that sounded suspiciously like the man she had just saved echoed too and she swore herself, rushing away from the house and back through the morphed door so she was submerged into the dark woods.
Curse the boys for giving her their saviour complexes.
She rushed through the woods, trying to locate the sound of the man. If he died on his way to safety then all that would've been for nothing and it could decrease the chances of getting out of her current situation. Sturgis' voice got louder and she veered round a corner to see him scrambling back from what looked like a werewolf. She suspected it was Greyback or someone else but Sturgis didn't have a wand and the wolf looked like it could swipe at any moment.
Elladora spied a large tree branch on the floor that had broken off of tree above and she grabbed it with a small grumble, taking a leap of faith and rushing forward to swing the heavy branch to the back of the wolfs head. Surprisingly, the wolf paused before falling onto the floor and she muttered out a small woah from knocking out a werewolf.
Sturgis was looking at her wide-eyed again and breathing heavily.
"You didn't see that coming?" She asked with a wheeze of breath and he laughed at his own words used against him. A small smile formed on her own face and he expected her to laugh with him but when he looked back at her, she was no longer laughing and instead staring down at the werewolf she had hit over the head.
Elladora kneeled down at it's side immediately, recognising the long scar that travelled across the wolf's torso and the scars that also cut into it's face. Sturgis sat up straighter at the sight of tears in her eyes as she hurriedly whimpered out apologies to the wolf, bringing her hands up to her mouth regretfully. He glanced unsurely between the two and awkwardly smiled as she muttered out the next word.
"Remus."

A/N: a very long and quite rushed chapter, I don't think it was written that well because I'm at my dads house and had nothing to do and my general mood is brought down when I'm here but it's okay. I'm sorry if this chapter was bad though and if there were any mistakes!
Also surprise! Our favourite Wolf is here 😩
