-------------------------------------------

The separation between the washed clothes and messy one wasn't supporting the lack of tidiness in my dorm. A few T-shirts were thrown against the frame of my bed. Meanwhile, pants scattered the floor boards. I spotted a few underwears lying around, yet I couldn't decide if they were fresh or not. However, nothing could compare to yesterday's disaster. Two times the clothes were dispersed around my dorm accompanied by bits of food. The pieces of food attracted many unfriendly bugs. The kinds which invaded the walls and quickly dashed around floors. I was alarmed with this problem quite long time ago but I always avoided it. But as weeks passed there has been a loss of clothing for me to wear and the dirty clothes were stacked high. Not only it was my laziness that alarmed me but as well did my mother. She nagged how much of a mess I was. It made sense since every girl I brought to my dorm wished to leave.

But now I was here, ready to tackle the messy monstrosity. With my handy tools at each hand. They were a broom, cleaning spray, and a trash bag waiting for me at the corner of my dorm. Grasping the broom, it brushed the dust aside along with candy wrappers. I encountered a few coins along the way, maybe spend some later. I continued to sweep until the knock on the door startled me. Setting the broom aside, I opened the door.

I hoped it to be one of my pals to help me with my cleaning, instead, it was someone else. I was greeted with an unfamiliar face, a foreigner face to be exact. He didn't have the facial features of an American. I wasn't bothered by that, though, for I have a few foreign friends. However, I don't recall this one standing in front of me. Without my noticed, he entered the dorm. His head turned as he observed the length of the room. He seemed too young to be an executor so that was off my list. Maybe the bulky backpack highlighted his status as a student here or my dormmate. But I haven't had a dorm buddy in years!

I was ready to tap on his shoulder but he turned to face me. His face was clearer now. I noticed how a few freckles covered his pale face. The way his caramel bangs covered the tips of his eyes. Even the way his curved lips smiled. His baggy clothing really reflected his style. They were filled with the wonders of red, gold, and blue. His height was nothing compared to mine as well. He was a little small teen.

"Umm...Hi, my name is Leo de la Iglesia. I'm guessing you're my dormmate." I started awkwardly, scratching the crook of my neck. The foreigner blinked in confusion. He just began staring at my tanned skin. He probably doesn't speak English.

He approached closer to me holding his identification card. Taking a quick glimpse, I learned that he originated from China, his dorm was 245 (which is mine), and his name is Guang Hong-Ji. Hmm...Guang Hong-Ji, It sounded nice in my head. It took me awhile how to communicate to the Chinese transferred student. Then it came to me.

Flipping my phone out of my pockets, I went the translator. Typing my previous comment down in English it turned into Chinese. However, my next challenge approached. Does he know Mandarin or Cantonese? I clicked on the Cantonese option and the women speaker talked the foreign language.

"嗯...你好,我的名字是Leo de la Iglesia。我猜你是我的宿舍" In response, Guang bowed speaking in his language. I awkwardly bowed my head as well.

After a week of speaking to each other through the translator, we've started to pick up a few phrases in each other's language. It was a benefit for Guang to be taking a separate English class. I began guiding him to his classes every time. I introduced him to my group of friends which spoke Cantonese, however, he was too bashful to speak. I noticed the change in behavior he felt towards other and me. Guang seemed to be comfortable around me, he had the freedom to chatter about any topic he wished or any concerns. He chuckled along with me and felt pity whenever he did. He expressed his thankfulness with a basket of traditional Chinese food. We shared each other's cultural traditions and it was pleasant to be there with Guang Hong-Ji~
