41.
Two weeks and three days had passed since I became the demon lady of Hell.
I, for one, didn't know what I was thinking when I said yes to that proposal, but I didn't regret it. If I had to change anything about how I got here and the chains of events, it would be Jade's death. It was still bittersweet in my mind and it hurt to think about it because I was here, and she wasn't.
It was just weird because I now had the job of making sure that people on Earth and in Hell were happy, which meant dealing with a whole lot of politics. Let me be real by saying that I was never into politics and I didn't think I would be. It was too difficult being a diplomat and catering to every single person's feelings, but now that I stood side-by-side Maddox Kane, I found that my job was a lot easier than I thought.
It was truly crazy and my mother never failed to point it out to me every day she saw me. Four years ago, I didn't think I'd be sitting here, my legs in the lap of the feared demon lord as he rubbed my sore feet, a gigantic rock on my left hand.
And I loved it.
"So we need to start thinking about future stuff and what we need to do since you know," I pointed to him. "You are the demon lord and they need you more than ever since that scary ass facade of yours fell apart," I said, referencing how cruel he was before Tion fell to his defeat. He let out a breath, pushing his hair back as he smiled at me, that fond look in his eyes deepening. He never failed to look at me as if I was the only person he saw.
"Don't forget that you are my demon lady. If anything," Maddox chuckled, rolling his eyes. "They'll probably listen and like you more than I. Not that I'd mind because I can see why," He always spoke with so much love and affection in his tone and it always reminded me that I thought this man was incapable of loving someone else that wasn't his family. Even if we had our disputes because let us be honest, we always did, I always told him how important he was to me.
No matter how we met or how far we came.
"Of course. What's not to love?" I winked at him and he leaned over, kissing my cheek gently. We were situated in his office, casually talking about business before we were done for the day and we basked in each other's attention as lovers.
"We need to reevaluate the 13 Commandments," I said in a serious tone and Maddox nodded in agreement. "We should make rules that are beneficial to us and to the people," I murmured and he closed his eyes, making a telepathic connection. "I have called Jexan to arrive and he should be here within seconds," He clicked his fangs and I sighed, hearing a knock on the door. "Come in!" I screeched and Jexan appeared, carrying two scrolls and a black pen.
"Hello, Sir Alistair, Taen," He greeted formally and I rolled my eyes. "You know you can still call me Troy," I smirked and he nodded, knowing that he was never going to call me that ever again. "How I may assist you two today?" He asked as he sat down at the round table in which Maddox and I were placed.
"Troy would like for us to revamp the list of the commandments, and I agree," Maddox began and Jexan unrolled an old looking scroll, laying it flat on the table as he opened the fresh scroll, pen in hand. "What would you like to change?" He looked at me and I thought about it for a second. "We can keep the ones about respecting the demon lord and his underlings and honoring no other god," I said as I watched him write in down in cursive handwriting. "Also add in there to respect the demon lady as well," Maddox chimed in and I rolled my eyes, fighting a blush.
"Honestly, there is no need for a curfew. They just need to have identification present and comply with the demon cops should we run into them," Jexan hummed as he wrote down the rule, waiting for me to continue. "There is no need to limit their use of profanity nor taking their money. They can say whatever the hell they want and they just need to make sure that they use their money for intelligent purposes like starting their own business and stuff like that. Make note that using money for illegal purposes will result in a consequence," I said, wanting our people to have a good start in life.
"Violence should not be allowed unless it's in self-defense. That is the only exception. The sexual and romantic relationship rule can be scrapped because we need population," I explained, using what I had gone through to back it up. "Anyone can live with whom they choose, provided that they submit an application to us. That is for us to keep track should any issue arise," I thought that was fair. We wouldn't deny them, we'd just keep a record.
"We need to legalize the food that they want to eat because quite frankly, there's no need to limit that. It doesn't benefit us and it doesn't benefit them," I raised a brow, wondering if Maddox disagreed with that as Jexan waited for the final note, but all he did was nod his head like a puppy, the imaginary ears flopping against the sides of his head. "And we need to let them wear what they want. As you can see, that rule didn't stop me," I shrugged and Jexan snickered, knowing that I was right.
"The no tattoos and piercings rule can go because most of you demons have tattoos and it makes us look like hypocrites," I threw out. "And the vehicle rule can be swapped to that they are allowed to have vehicles if they register them and give us a record to keep. They can be allowed to protest, if they see fit because freedom of speech, bro," I knew myself and I knew how I acted before I landed in Hell. I protested with all my might because I had a reason, so who knew?
"That's all I have to say about those rules," I spoke up after he finished writing the last line, signing with his initials so that this word was law. "Jexan, if you could," I called out, watching him stand to make his exit. "Make the arrangments for Maddox and I to have a press conference in No Man's Land and make this a worldwide video broadcast, thank you. Also, go make sure that you and some other demons watch the next episode of Spongebob. I'm tired of these references going over ya head," I grinned at him and he nodded, saluting me as he exited.
"You really are made to be my queen, aren't you?" Maddox raised a brow, trying to figure me out. "Maybe," I shrugged, hiding a shit-eating smirk. I was happier than I had ever been in my life and I was truly relishing in the fact.
Then there was an abrupt knock on the door as it opened.
"Sirs, Queen Hannah is here to speak with you all," The demon guard at the door bowed and I motioned for him to let her in. Hannah had become the queen of the paradise of Eden shortly after Tion was cremated and his ashes were buried in the crypt below the palace. The people came out of hiding once they heard that she was reigning and they began to cheer in joy, going so far as to send us food and gifts for our help.
Not that they had anything to think us for.
"Yeah! Let her in!" I haven't seen her since the banquet, but we frequently sent letters back and forth. I tried getting her a cell phone so that we could text, but she had to create a system that would allow inter-division signal.
"Hello, guys!" In walked in Hannah Vandenrei, her long silver-blond hair flowing behind her as her eyes twinkled with her wave. "Good to see you!" She hugged me tightly before hugging Maddox, who hugged her back awkwardly because he was still getting used to physical contact. "How are you?" She asked, taking a seat in front of us and we began conversation.
"How are the kids?" I asked, remembering that when they had to leave to go back to Eden, they cried and threw a huge tantrum, promising that they would come back as soon as they could. In her letters, Hannah always mentioned how much they talked about me. I missed them so much. "They're good. They actually wanted to come with me on the trip here, but I couldn't allow it as they had school to attend," She replied as gracefully as she did.
"That's good," I tilted my head, telling myself that I had to take a saucer up to Eden before the end of the week. "I invited you here because I wanted to talk about us drawing up a treaty," I stated and she nodded, listening fully. "How would you feel about all of the demons, angels, and humans being able to travel between Eden, Earth, and Hell? There would be violence among us because we have established a cordiality among one another," I described, thinking through this plan efficiently.
"It would not only allow the people to trust us because they would be allowed into our personal domain, but the angels and demons as well," They were still healing from the aftermath of the war, and this treaty would help them see that we are indeed no enemy. "I think that's a good idea," Hannah beamed and I cheered, having her help me draw up the conclusions of the treaty with all three of our signatures on it.
"Once Jexan makes the arrangments, can you come to the broadcast that we'll be having where we address all of these new rules and stuff? It would allow the people of Earth to put the names to faces and become acquaintanced with the changes?" She nodded, giving me full support. I was sure the people were going crazy, wondering what the fuck was going on, and we had to let them know we had their back.
After we spent a few hours catching up with Hannah, Maddox and I went to an appointment that the physician had wanted. This baby was getting bigger, day by day, and since Maddox knew that sex was the key, he took full advantage of it.
And I loved it.
Time after time, he made me feel so good, so damn desired and I was always feeling the brunt and the extent that he went to the next day. It didn't get any better than that.
"Hey," I greeted the doctor who told me to sit on the bed so that he could check and see how the baby was doing. I was still shocked that I was even having a child, but I was dealing with it the best way I could.
Just smiling and waving.
"Has he been giving you a hard time?" He asked as Maddox took a seat next to me, taking my hand in his. "No," I shook my head. "Just some mild cramps here and there with a few kicks but nothing major," I still recalled the first time that Maddox felt his kick and he was so happy. He confided in me that this was the first time that he had been so happy because he wasn't there to see Natanya be birthed or the process.
So this was all new to him. Since I told him we were expecting, he had been working tirelessly to make sure that the nursery was ready and done by the time little one got here. The doctor turned to me, about to tell me some information. "Don't be surprised when your son comes and he's a lot bigger than what is normal for humans. That is the standard for us demons and since your boy is a hybrid, his demon genes will be the dominant of the two," That was understandable because Maddox was damn fucking strong and I wasn't sure how his mini-me would fare.
"Troy," Hagan, the physician, said as he wiped along my stomach with his hand, a luminous glow as the reflection of our baby came onto a holographic screen. "It isn't long before your baby comes," He stated and Maddox and I stared in pure awe as we watched our baby curl up in on himself, his horns growing longer and longer. He truly was the Antichrist.
"Wow," Maddox expressed breathlessly with a dopey grin and wide eyes. "That's our son," I was sure his cheeks were hurting with how hard he was smiling. "Yes, that is. Our precious munchkin," I just knew this little demon was going to be a handful just by looking at him.
This would be a great addition to everything. I was a little nervous because we had been together barely a year and we were now introducing a child. That isn't something that we could just eradicate in mere seconds, so I was hesitant but Maddox showed me over and over that this was the goal for him. He had all that he needed and he was free of the shackles that bound him from reaching happiness.
He squeezed my hand, unable to take his eyes off of the screen, our munchkin moving around and playing inside of me. This was surreal and that joy that I felt could not be described. I was with the man that I loved and we were going to bring our little bundle into this world, a changed one at that.
"What are we going to name him?" Maddox asked as he rubbed my stomach, the action soothing the mild cramps I had as the doctor proceeded to make arrangments for the birth. "Don't you worry your pretty little head," I teased, running a hand through his hair. "I've already taken care of that," He pouted and I pulled him down by his tie, landing a kiss on those soft lips of his.
"You just worry about being the best father that I know you'll be."
