Chapter 23:: Feverish nights

Author's POV:

It was morning and you both were at a 5-star Michelin restaurant. With violin players surrounding you both and the first-class croissants, whipped cream and french toast with fresh fruits and juice, it was a beautiful breakfast.

Later on, you both went to the Eiffel Tower and stayed there till noon. it was fun. Because both you and Taehyung were in the goofiest mood.

"Hey. Click my picture, thanks."
"You look like a monkey."
"You're a donkey, don't even talk!"

He rolled his eyes playfully as you grinned at the camera. He still did click at least a thousand pictures of you, including polaroids which he kept to himself.

"Come come!" You dragged him toward an ice cream shop as he frowned, "Who eats ice cream in winter?"
"It's fun."
"I wonder how you grew up healthy..."
"I got sick often. Who said I was healthy?" You chuckled, "I just take care of myself well. In my childhood, I got sick very often."

He looked down, "Ice cream will get me a cold."
"It won't trust me!"
You handed him one ice cream and got one for yourself. He frowned, licking the ice cream at first. You smiled and said, "Ice cream tastes good in winter. It's fun."
"You're the strange one." He sighed.

You both roamed around as you randomly clicked candids of him. You loved having random pictures on your phone, especially of him. Because even in the weirdest pose, he looked beautiful.

"Tonight, we have dinner. Let's head back after lunch quickly."
"Alright."

—At night

You touched up your bun a little and smiled at the mirror.
"Taehyung." You called as he walked inside, his suit flexing under the dim lights of the bedroom. You smiled at him, "You look handsome."

He stared at you, walking towards you as you got up, "Can you help me wear this necklace?"
He nodded and took the necklace from you. You noticed that he had the bracelet from you. Every day, you noticed it. He never took it off.

You smiled shyly as he tied it around your neck, securing it.
Turning around, you smiled at him to which he didn't reciprocate but he leaned in closer, placing a soft peck on your lips.
"You look perfect tonight." You looked at him, a little startled.
"I figured I didn't kiss you today so."

"Are you planning on kissing me every day?" You asked, raising your brows as he nodded.
"Even on the days, we fight?"
"I'd make it up to you by kissing you."

You let out a chortle, in disbelief.
"You're unbelievable."

"Let's go. We'll be late." He said, holding your hand as you both headed out.

—Time skip

Reporters were everywhere, flashing lights and the noise of the crowd was now a usual thing. You were so used to it at this point. But still, it somehow made you anxious.

You both were about to enter the restaurant after walking up the stairs but you accidentally twisted your ankle, making you hiss.
"Are you okay?" Taehyung asked, his eyes quite large. You nodded, sighing.
"I didn't get a sprain... thankfully."
"Clumsy." He whispered and looked at your heel, "the strap's open."
"Huh?"

You gasped, looking down. You were about to bend down to tie your heel but he stopped you by holding your arm, "The cameras are right behind you."
If you bent down right now, it'd become awkward due to your a*s.
"I'll do it." He said and bent down as you looked at him wide-eyed, "But..."
He shushed you with his finger and tied your heel while the entire public, and probably the whole world was watching.

He got up and smiled at you, "Are you embarrassed?"
You gulped as he intertwined his hands with yours, "Don't care about whatever they're whispering. Before a prince, I'm your husband."

You didn't dare look at him as you both walked inside the restaurant, greeted by the soldiers.

There were many officials at the dinner but Taehyung talked as plainly as he could. He wasn't intimidated by anyone. He was a prince, after all. And the future King too.

He had the potential to be the perfect and the strongest King, you knew it.

"I want to sneak out." He whispered as you looked at him in disbelief, "Is that your habit?!"
"You understood too late." He sighed.

You tried not to laugh but it was so hard.

Throughout the dinner, you noticed Taehyung's condition. He coughed a few times and didn't eat much. You wondered if he was fine but due to the professional atmosphere, you couldn't ask him properly. Still, you mouthed, "You okay?"
He just nodded but it didn't seem as though he was.

After you both got out and entered the car, you shifted towards him, checking his forehead. It was warm.
"Are you having a fever?" You asked as he shook his head, "I don't think so. I'm fine."
"You're not." You frowned but he was adamant.

"Okay. Just... rest your head on my shoulder. Get some sleep. You do have a fever." You said and put his head on your shoulder, caressing his hand as he closed his eyes, swallowing.
You wondered why he suddenly got sick when realization dawned upon you.

You made him eat ice cream on a snowy day.

Though you ate it too, you were still fine. You were wrong this time.

Guilt rushed into your nerves as you gulped, looking down. You shouldn't have done that at all.

—At the hotel

"Ah... you're burning. Lie down." You said, helping him lie on the bed. He sighed, "My head hurts."
"I'll order them to bring some medicine, okay? You just get some sleep. I'm so sorry." You whispered, biting your lower lip. You took off his socks and his coat, pulling the duvet over him.
"Do you want some porridge? You barely ate right there."
He shook his head as you frowned, "Hey..."

"I'm fine. Just some medicine." He spoke. You nodded, got up and quickly rushed to the kitchen, starting to cook some porridge. The medicines arrived as you kept them on the table. He had to eat something first and then some medicine.
You finished cooking the porridge and entered the room to see him asleep.

"Taehyung. Wake up." You said softly. He squirmed a little but woke up, looking tired. You took a spoon of porridge and blew on it, forwarding it to him.
"Just a little, okay? Then I'll give you some medicine."
"Did you... cook this?" He asked. You nodded. He stared at it for a moment before looking at you as you frowned, "Why? Does this look bad?"
He shook his head, looking down. You frowned seeing his face becoming sad.
"Are you okay?"

"This is the first time... someone other than the maids cooked for me when I was sick." His voice sounded so feeble, you wondered if it was Taehyung. He was fever-talking, he'd probably never mention this if he was fine right now. But it was okay, you wanted to know everything there existed in him.
"I'll cook for you every time you'll be sick from now on, I promise." You said, "Now have this?"
He nodded, taking one spoon and slowly eating it.
"Is it good?"
He hummed, looking down. You managed to feed him half of the bowl but he wouldn't eat any more than that. He was adamant.

You sighed and gave up, feeding him some medicine.

He lay down and closed his eyes as you stroked his hair, "I'm so sorry for that. I won't bug you into eating things anymore."
"It's okay." He whispered. You kissed his forehead, stayed there for a long time and pulled away.

You hadn't even changed yet, you realized.
"I'll always take care of you. I'm here, okay?" You whispered. He was hearing you but he was too tired to reply, his head throbbed and he felt himself drowning in some sort of feeling. He knew you were there, he wasn't alone.
Unlike the times when the maids just left while he was in pain, you were stroking his hair so lovingly, caressing him, taking care of him. He realized this was what it felt like. Being taken care of.

And even though being sick hurt, he didn't mind this. If it meant having you beside him, caring for him like this, he'd accept being sick.

—Next morning

"Mina... you haven't called me for the past week. And I am surprisingly hating you more these days." You complained as Mina sighed on the other side of the call.
"Well, the number of articles I see your picture in... do I even need to call to check up on you?"
"Hey, I need to check up on you too."
She chuckled, "Well, then, my life's going well. But can you explain that picture of him kissing you and the other one where Prince Kim Taehyung, the known prince who never smiles TIED YOUR F--KING SHOES AND SMILED AT YOU?"

You frowned, taking the phone away from your ear.
"Oy! Slow down. He's asleep."
"My a*s, he is."
"Ew! Why would he be your-"
"SHUT THE DUCK UP!"

You sighed and continued, "Alright, sorry. I meant to tell you but I was busy. You know, I'm in Paris and all... actually, Taehyung's sick... he has a fever."
"If you tell me you forcefully fed him weird shit and now he's sick, I won't be surprised."
"No wonder you're my bestie." You said, quite surprised. She sighed and said, "Take care of him, will you? He appears cold, I think he likes you a lot."
You smiled a little and said, "Well... I think we've become a thing now. He kisses me every day."
"What the hell? Is he some clingy romantic?!"
"I wouldn't term it like that." You frowned as Mina scoffed.

"Alright. I just... can guess things. Your pictures turned out cute so I won't say anything."
You chuckled and asked, "You don't even have a love life... don't talk!"
"Hey!" She protested.
"Well... I made some friends. You know, Prince Jungkook... we went on a few hangouts recently."

You gasped loudly but shut your mouth seeing Taehyung squirm a little. You clasped a hand over your mouth, "Jungkook? You? Why? When? Where? How? What? Why do I not know?!"
"Shut up... god. It's just... you know, we exchanged numbers a long time ago. So we texted a few times and I think we became friends. He gives me your updates which you don't. So, we hung out too. I love people who give me your updates."
"You love him?"
"Do you want me to come and kill you in the middle of your sweet honeymoon?"

You chuckled, "Okay. Just kidding. But that's strange. I didn't expect you to be friends with him."
"Yeah, me neither. I rejected him on the day of the ball."
"What the hell?! You're telling me things now?!"

"I'll tell you everything when I see you, okay? But I'm not crushing on him, for your information. I don't think he's either. We're just friends so don't bring in your romcom theories."
"I surely will."
"You have a death wish, don't you?"
"I have a romcom wish."
"Y/N!"

You looked beside you to see Taehyung opening his eyes. He looked at you as you smiled, "Mina, I got to go. My husband is awake."
You hung up, hearing her curse you as you smiled at Taehyung.
"Good morning."
He got up and looked at you, his face still looking a little tired but he seemed better than last night.
"Is it morning already?"
"Yes. You woke up at the perfect time. I finished cooking breakfast half an hour ago. Wanna eat?"

He stared at you for a moment before looking at his clothes.
"I changed?"
"You were rumbling in your sleep about... some uncomfortable clothes so I only changed your shirt. You don't remember?"
He shook his head, looking down. You didn't change his pants.
"Sorry... I hope you didn't mind."
"It's okay. I didn't." He said.

You cleared your throat as the flashbacks of last night came to your mind. You were almost shocked seeing his perfectly toned chest and honey skin glowing under the dim light. He had the perfect body one would aspire to. Gosh, he was so perfect.

You shrugged off those thoughts and checked his forehead as he murmured, "Thank you for taking care of me."
You looked at him, smiling, "I'm sorry for making you eat that ice cream. It was inconsiderate of me."
"It's fine." He spoke, holding your hands.
"Get up quickly, the breakfast's already cold I think. I'll heat it."

He looked at you get up and leave the room and smiled a little, looking down.

He still had the feverish feeling in him but it was fine, it was better than before. At least you were there taking care of him.
