Chapter 14:: A Miracle
Author's POV:
You stared at Taehyung, looking like you had been punched straight in the gut. Your face was blank but it exhibited pain and betrayal.
Taehyung looked at you, confusion taking over his face once he saw how disgusted you suddenly looked. You looked away, walking towards Mina before he could call.
He frowned and looked at the cameraman with a glare. This guy ruined the perfect moment. He was about to kiss you but wow, thanks to the lights and these spies. But why did you react that way?
It was dinner and you both sat beside each other but he noticed how quiet you seemed. You smiled whenever there was a camera but other than that, you just kept quiet. You wondered if he did that. He had mentioned it earlier. Act lovey-dovey in front of the camera. But you didn't want this.
You wanted it to be real.
But why?
There was only one answer to this question. You looked at him and the moment he stared back at you, worry evident in his eyes, you felt something in your heart.
The first time you had seen him, his eyes depicted no emotion. Simply blank eyes with a fiery gaze burning holes through you.
But right now, that cold gaze was nowhere. There was a warm and soothing Taehyung who was in front of you, looking at you worried. And you still couldn't figure out what he was like.
Sometimes, he was blank as paper and sometimes he looked like a human with overflowing emotions. Sometimes, he appeared lush and at times like this, you didn't even know the answer. What was he like? What were his secrets? What was wrong with him? You knew nothing.
But you wanted to. You wanted to know what his laugh sounded like or how he'd look when he was in love, or how he was raised. Random little things that constituted his life were all becoming your curiosities. And this was concerning.
This meant more than simple interest. You were much more than just interested in him. Maybe, somewhere, you knew, he had become special.
Maybe, you developed feelings for him.
But did he?
Even though his actions felt so close, and you both nearly kissed, you weren't sure about him. And it was making you miserable. It made you scared.
You looked away but feeling his hand on your shoulders, you let out a sigh. Every little action of his was misleading and he had to know that. But, did he?
—Time skip
"Hey." You heard him and turned around, frowning. He looked at you, "Are you mad at me or is it your mood swings?"
You stare at him for a moment before letting out a shaky breath, "W-What are you saying..."
You cleared your throat, looking away but he was standing right in front of you.
He walked towards you, making your shoulders scrunch a little. He frowned seeing you act like that and sighed.
"Come with me." You wanted to ask but he held your hand already, walking towards somewhere you didn't quite understand. Until you did.
It was the backdoor of the venue.
"Again?"
"Yes." He said with a hard stare. You gulped as he opened the door, pulling you in with him. You heard some footsteps approaching as he pulled you beside the door, caging you between his arms. He looked at the door, holding it with one leg and his other hand.
You stared at his throat working abnormally and gulped. You fisted your hands, preventing yourself from touching him though the urge in you was real.
He looked at you, raising a brow slightly. Seeing you look down, he backed away and said, "Let's go."
"But-" He dragged you upstairs with him.
"Do you even have the key?" You whispered but he shrugged, taking out a bunch.
"When did you-"
"Wasn't this planned from like 2 weeks ago?" He asked, frowning. You stared at his hands, remembering your own words.
"And you agreed to get ourselves killed?"
"This time, I swear we will get caught. The king probably noticed already." He spoke as you gasped, "Then let's go back!"
"No. You and I need to talk."
"But-"
He unlocked the lock and pulled you in with him, closing the terrace door. You both walked towards the room and got inside, sitting down quietly. The awkward air engulfed you both as Taehyung spoke, "So, what's wrong with you?"
"Nothing." You replied almost immediately for him to believe. He glared at you making you cough awkwardly.
"Nothing."
"Okay. Keep lying. I'll lock this door until you answer me." He said. You frowned and stared at him, but he didn't get up or lock the door as he said. He wouldn't do that.
"I just... felt uncomfortable."
He stared at you, "Because of the dance?"
You didn't want him to know so you made up excuses, "No... the cameraman suddenly popped up and it... I felt weird. I'm usually not good in front of the media and reporters you know... the cameras are my weak point."
He hummed, "So you avoided me to avoid the camera? Because wherever I go, the camera does too."
You looked at him, feeling guilty.
Not hearing any answer, he got up and took out a box from his drawer. He placed it in front of you both.
"This is... a very expensive wine. Wanna try it out?"
You frowned, "Why do you have a literal wine in here?"
You gasped when you saw the name, 'Chateau Margaux grand vin'.
This guy HAD to be kidding.
"How much does this cost..." You asked as he said, "You don't want to know."
"I don't think I do either." You gulped. He smiled a little and took out two glasses.
"Glasses too?"
"They are the normal glasses, chill."
"Thank god." You sighed.
He poured the wine into the glasses as you stared at them horrified. He wanted to laugh seeing your face but he controlled himself. He cleared his throat, handing one glass to you.
"Cheers..." You spoke, looking at the glass quite... weirdly.
"Just drink. It won't cost you anything."
"It just hurts to drink such an expensive thing.."
"Your father probably had this too."
"I'm not like my father." You sighed. He smiled a little and gestured for you to drink. You stared at him, wondering why his smile was so beautiful.
It seemed to fix everything angsty going on in your heart. You sipped the wine, letting the taste linger on your tongue.
"Why do I know nothing about you?" You asked, taking another sip from the wine. He looked at you, looking confused.
"Huh?"
"I've never heard you laugh... but it's okay. I think 99.9% of the world didn't. But I don't know almost anything about you. Like..." You took a huge gulp this time, hissing a little.
"I don't know what goes on in your mind. If you're happy or not, if you're sad or not... if you're just..."
"Speak clearly." He said, his voice softer than ever. You sighed, "I don't know why everyone else seems to understand you while I don't. Jungkook says you're happy but I don't see a hint of pleasure in your face. I mean, not like I care I just- I.."
You felt a warm palm on your cheek and took a deep breath, turning around. Your heart beats loudly and you felt something tingly in your tummy but most of all, you felt comforted.
"Do you have a fever?" He asked. You frowned, scoffing and glared at him. He looked down, "You're saying strange things."
"It's just... how I felt." You whispered, attempting to take another sip but your glass was empty. You looked at Taehyung who filled your glass. You thanked him, taking another sip as he said, "You'll be drunk."
"You're avoiding what I said."
He sighed, looking down. He took the glass from you before you could take another sip. The pink tint on your cheeks, your dazed eyes and the unplanned movement of your lips proved you were already drunk.
"Hey..."
He held your wrists, holding your hands as he rested them on his lap. You faced him, both of you sitting on the edge of the bed.
"I don't know how to laugh freely in front of others... or cry. Many people can do that but for me, it's different. I can't physically show whether I'm happy or not but most of the time, even if I am, I'm just... misunderstood. I don't know why but since my childhood, I've never felt secure around people I didn't know well. Only my mother and Jungkook..."
You stared at him, trying to put the pieces together as he continued, "My father... the King never cared about us. There was a time before my birth, as my mother says when he loved her and was an affectionate man. But soon... he changed. He became someone cold and arrogant, ignorant towards his own family. Whilst all fathers were joining their kids in the school picnic, my father was a King and we had special education yet he wasn't present in a normal class for a single minute."
He sucked in a sharp breath, seeing you stare at him, your eyes looking very droopy. Maybe you wouldn't even remember it. So, he could say it all out, right?
"The thing is... I didn't have a usual upbringing. My mother was distressed due to my father's change of behaviour. She hit me a few times too... when she was mad and I asked her to play with me. And I wasn't allowed to cry because when I did..." He didn't say further. He gulped, looking down.
"I just also gained criticism from the public and all... they said my smile looked fake and all. So, of course, as a growing teenager... I had insecurities about showing emotions. That's why I turned out like this, I hide my emotions even when I don't need to, according to every therapist I've ever met. Anyway, that's all I'd say today. But I'm comfortable being this way."
You knew there was so much he didn't mention. He told you half of the story. Maybe even half of that. But you'd wait for him to open up. Until you collected all the pieces from him.
You opened your arms clumsily, hugging him. You felt him freeze but your mind wasn't working much.
He didn't hug you back but he let you rest your head on his chest. You held his hand, caressing his knuckles with your thumb. His hand was so large.
You intertwined your fingers with him, maybe not realizing how intimate your actions were. But he didn't say anything. He let you do whatever you were doing. Because whatever you were doing brought utmost comfort to him.
Your warmth and the scent of your hair, the shine of the tiara that was kept down long ago, everything brought him a different comfort.
He couldn't help but hold you closer, hugging you back. You hummed lazily, "You're there, right?"
He hummed, patting your head lightly.
"I'm here."
You closed your eyes, smiling at the feeling of his warm chest.
"Wow... your foundation is on my tuxedo now." He whispered, trying not to smile but he failed.
"Only you make me smile." He spoke, leaving a featherlight kiss on your hair, so lightly that you didn't even know he did anything like that.
"Taehyung." You suddenly spoke, making him look at you quite perplexed. He never heard you call his name. He felt his heart beating so loudly, he worried you'd ask him about it.
"It's okay if you don't smile. Just tell me you're happy." You spoke in the softest tone making him close his eyes. He hummed as you continued, "And... I won't ask you a-about the king.."
"You're sleepy." He whispered, tilting his head to see your face. You smiled with your eyes closed, making him wonder how someone looked so much like an angel without even doing anything.
"It's all okay if you're okay..." Your last words faded as you fell into a deep slumber. Taehyung was stroking your hair, watching you sleep. One of your hands intertwined with his while the other hugged him. The same went for him.
Both of your bodies were together, resting in comfort.
Taehyung frowned when he heard some noise coming from outside. The guards were searching for you both. He used his free hand to cover your ears and sighed.
"Sleep tight." He whispered.
He picked you up, not after long and lay you on the bed, covering you with a duvet. He saw the soft smudge of your lipstick and wiped it with his thumb gently, sighing.
You looked so adorable, it hurt.
He looked down and wondered why this feeling of longing in him every time he thought about you was increasing. He felt as if he was diving deeper into this feeling.
And the moment you turned around, mumbling, "Taehyung," he realized one thing.
It took him only 3 seconds to realize that a miracle had happened to him. And the miracle was none other than you.
And he was in love. Deeply, wholly, completely, totally... with you. And only you.
