chapter twenty-one
The men were in the house by now, standing in the living room, conversing, plotting. Harry and Draco remained just out of sight.
"Severus, thank you for telling me where they lived. When I saw the boy, I just had to come get you." The first voice gushed, and Harry felt more sick to his stomach. Severus was the reason that Tom Riddle was here.
"Of course, sir. With my son and Harry Potter's wedding fast-approaching: a wedding I never wanted, I might add, I knew I had to create one final conflict to perhaps cancel it. And if Harry Potter is still here, he is yours. If it is only his birth mother, you may have her." Severus' voice sent tremors down Harry's spine and he reached forward slowly to take Draco's hand, noticing how much the blond was shaking.
"And why are you so eager to betray your family, Severus?" Tom asked.
"Because Lucius' priorities lie with his son all the time. There was a time before his son, and that time was wonderful, and now, I am nothing to him. It's all about Draco, and his stupid wedding to Harry Potter. We haven't even made love in months!" The long-haired man exclaimed, seething.
Draco trembled behind Harry, who held the boy who was breaking before his very eyes.
"I'm gonna kill him." The blond whispered, and Harry turned to him: both kneeling.
"No, you'll be outnumbered."
"He wants to kill you."
"He won't."
"Well then," Tom spoke up. "Make yourself useful and find me somebody. It's time I finish what I've started."
"Yes, sir." Peter and Severus spoke in unison, and Harry listened as their footsteps grew nearer. He turned to Draco quickly, capturing his lips in his, and silently told him to run.
Draco nodded and handed the bat to Harry before scurrying quietly down the hall. Then, as Harry turned, he saw the outline of Severus at the end of the hall: his dark clothing just slightly different from the darkness of the room. He stood tall, slowly, and swung at the man just as he was spotted.
"Oomph!" He said as he fell and Harry hovered over him, foot on his chest as the man, barely conscious stared up at him.
"You'll never win." Harry seethed before knocking the man out cold with the rounded top on the bat.
Harry made his way around the corner and into the room where Tom Riddle sat idly on his mother's couch. He appeared bored, salt-and-pepper hair illuminated by moonlight, and pale skin a sickly color. He had one leg crossed over the other, and was staring at his fingernails distastefully.
"Severus, Peter, do hurry up! I have other things to do tonight." The man claimed, still staring at his nails.
That was when Harry accidentally stepped on a piece of broken glass, staring with wide eyes as Tom looked up at him, a devilish smirk on his face.
"Ah, Harry Potter. I've heard so much about you." He sneered, and leapt forward, temporarily taking Harry off guard, causing him to fall backwards. The older man jumped over Harry's fallen body and ran elsewhere into the house, causing the green-eyed boy to groan as he felt a piece of glass cut through his shirt and cause his arm to bleed.
As Harry sat up, the glass pierced his arm again. Slowly, he stood, praying that Draco and the women hadn't been spotted yet. He walked down the hall, stepping over Severus' unconscious body. Though, as he lifted his second leg over him, the man quickly reached up and seized him by the ankle, pulling him down roughly.
"Severus, please!" Harry cried out when the man quickly closed his arm around the dark haired boy's windpipe. He struggled and the older man held firmly on to him.
"You shouldn't have come here, Potter. You shouldn't have endangered the life of Draco, and you should not have interfered with Tom Riddle." Severus snapped, twisting the boy's arm as he tried to elbow him in the ribs. "We've had years together, you and I. Years to mend a relationship that was doomed from the start. You deceived me: cheated me of my secrets, and now, I'll cheat you of your mother. Lily has always been my love, but you and your putrid family ruined it for me!"
Harry felt his line of vision growing darker than it already was.
"Please." He tried, though it came out as more of a wheezing sound. Severus let out a dark chuckle, and with another tight squeeze, the dark haired boy found his consciousness slipping. Just before he could feel nothing, he heard a sharp cry.
"Papa, no!" And in the next second, Draco had claimed the baseball bat that Harry had dropped due to lack of oxygen and swung it at his second father.
Severus stumbled, losing his grip of Harry, and with another swing, he was knocked out cold, for real this time. Draco took Harry into his arms, checking to make sure he was breathing properly again, and placed their foreheads together.
"You. Left. Mom." Harry spoke in short breaths.
"They're safe, Harry. They ran through the back gardens, they're safe!" Draco exclaimed, but as he led Harry to the backdoor, his eyes widened as he saw the two women backed against a tree: Peter Pettigrew and Tom Riddle on either side of them.
"Mom!" Harry rasped out and staggered out the door towards his mother. Tom spotted him, and smirked.
"The troublesome Harry Potter lives to see his mother die." He hissed maliciously, holding what was probably the sharpest dagger he'd ever seen against Lily's throat.
"Why are you doing this? What has she ever done to you?" Draco asked, wrapping an arm around his fiancé to prevent the boy from charging forwards.
"She's a f*ggot, as are you, and everyone else. Every man who sleeps with a man shall die." Tom stated simply, digging the blade deeper against Lily's throat. Alice was crying as Peter restrained her and Harry took notice of the punctured skin and blood slowly trailing.
"So, you're a Hetero-extremist?" Draco asked, eyeing the man in confusion.
"Indeed, son. 'Tis good to see that somebody around here is smart."
"But if you're a Hetero, what's that man to you?" The blond pointed to the bulkier, rat-faced man.
"A partner, though not of the relationship kind. We are blood-partners: joined together to end these homosexual nasties."
"The majority of the world is gay. It preaches in the Bible to be gay. Everything is gay, and gay is okay."
"Gay is not, and will never be okay. You speak of it so highly, but have you forgotten the rituals that take place all year long: the joining of a man and a woman to conceive a child? That's quite Hetero, if you ask me. Man must lie with woman, and Lily-dear was my good friend Severus' intended woman."
"Never." Lily choked out, growling at the man before her.
By this point, Harry had regained his breath and was eyeing the situation, testing theories in his head on what would be wise and unwise to do. And then, he said 'screw it' and charged. He snatched the bat from Draco's hands and swung it rapidly towards Tom's head. The older, though agile man, ducked easily and spun around.
This was when Lily broke free and punched Peter square in the nose, sending him backwards, cradling his bloody sniffer. The chubby man spit angrily, and worked his way into a standing position again, and lunged for Lily, though Alice was quick to hit him with a fallen tree branch. He was knocked down again and again while Harry and Tom brawled.
Draco stood awkwardly, wondering just why the police hadn't shown yet. Surely they couldn't have been that busy.
Harry swung at Tom again, and the man caught the bat, and sharply tugged it from the green-eyed boy's hands. He charged forward with his dagger and was sidestepped easily. He found that the man moved like a bull: he relied completely on a powerful charge, and once he got going, he could not so easily change his direction.
Maybe force came with age, Harry didn't know. He did know, however, that Tom appeared to be growing tired. He snatched a tree branch from the oak that his mother had been held against and charged at the older man just as he had charged at Harry. They collided with equal force, falling to the ground together, where they wrestled and kicked and punched where they could.
"Draco, help me!" Harry exclaimed, breathing hard as he tried his best to stay atop the older man. With his hands, he was able to force the man down by the neck, shaking his head as he spit angrily at him.
Draco stepped out of his dazed stupor and, with one swift motion, knocked out the man in the same fashion he had his second father.
This is when the sounds of sirens came and Draco helped Harry stand, and together the four people waved police officers toward the back garden where Tom Riddle lay unconscious. Peter Pettigrew moaned uncomfortably as Alice sat atop his stomach, holding him down.
Inside, Severus was just coming to his senses, but it was too late. When his eyes opened finally, he found himself handcuffed and being lugged towards a police car. He struggled slightly, and caught sight of Harry smirking at him.
"This isn't over! Next time, you're dead, Potter!" He screamed, but Harry only shook his head.
"There won't be a next time, sir. Your arse is going away to jail for a long time, for conspiring with Hetero-extremists." The dark-haired boy called smugly.
As the three men were placed in the cars, Harry took Draco's hand then led him towards his mother, and took her hand as well. Lily took Alice's hand then, and Alice took Draco's.
"You'll be alright," Harry promised. "They'll never come after either of you ever again."
