Chapter 9 : Glass shards
I’ve seen it before I thought cupping my chin with my right hand and stroking it as if I had a beard . I’ve seen it on post cards, on letters and birthday cards and many other places but these were just vague memories.
One thing I knew was It didn’t belong to dad.
How was this so? It’s not hers obviously.
Unless you can send letters from heaven.
I was being paranoid. It couldn’t have been.
Ignoring that absurd thought which filled my head in a millisecond and left at the speed of light.
I squashed the piece of paper not wanting to bring back memories. I casually threw it on the floor just as your everyday litter bug would drop waste on the side of the road.
My eyes drifted to the black box. I was curious to know what the contents were.
I placed my hand on the top of intricately designed rectangular prism, feeling it’s texture and gazing at it’s stature.
I lifted the box and placed it onto the table. I pulled out the silky black material which encased the object within the box.
I stared at the object , with bulging eyes almost popping out of my head. My palms became all clammy and beads of sweat raced down my temples.
A person standing next to me would probably mistaken me for a Looney Toon character, Elmer presumably.
I was alone, luckily.
***
I ran my forefinger across the edge of the object. A mild burning sensation emanated from my limb.
Richly coloured, burgundy liquid seeped through the incision on my finger .I winced in pain. I rolled my eyes at my weak behaviour momentarily.
A shear coat of blood covered the blade of the silver dagger which I immediately wiped off and placed back into the box along with the black material.
Well that answers my question.
It’s sharp, alright!
My insides twisted and my abdominal cavity felt as if it was set alight. It wasn’t a feeling of discomfort or pain nor was it gastritis or indigestion. It was a rather uplifting feeling.
I felt my body and mind becoming revitalised and renewed.
After mere seconds it ceased and I felt.
Somehow, yet the same.
What just happened?
I ran through the hall way to the nearest mirror in the cabin and stared into it.
There was no difference, physical one that is, except my skin seemed more clear. My under eye circles has lightened drastically and my skin was a lot less dry.
The perks that come with drinking water I thought.
I decided to head back to the living room and unpack the supplies and clothing and place them in their respective draws.
Starting with the clothing bag. I pulled out a pair of fluffy bedroom slippers I plopped them on the floor and opened the lace of my converse and took of my socks. I sat down on the plush couch
I heard a loud clunk as I set my feet on the flooring.
A glass cup, which I assume had fallen out from one of the packets. Shards of the broken glass cup were spread out all over the floor.
The sound of more glass breaking could be heard. I took another step and I heard it again. I stood still, trying to listen where the sound was coming from.
I pulled out a fancy stool from under the breakfast bar. I sat down , crossed my right leg over my left leg turned my food and examined it.
A thick piece of glass was embedded pretty deep underneath the heel of my foot. Which was strange as I felt no pain whatsoever.
I pulled the piece of glass out with scrunched up eyes, waiting for the blood to ooze out of the cut.
I waited, in anticipation. Something I thought I’d never wait for, but here I am.
Waiting for blood to ooze out of my glass covered foot.
***
I cleaned up the mess, packed everything away and decided to go in one of the rooms which I had set try clothes in my clothes and just think.
What was up with that freaky knife, dagger thing?
Why didn’t blood come out of my foot when I pulled that glass piece out ?
Why am I even in this place?
I really need to get out of here I just hate it here it’s so boring there’s nothing to do.
The people that I've met thus far are so strange .
An example is Dr Graham who I kind of liked but he acted strange and it freaked me out to that max.
T
his werewolf jumbo doesn’t even make any sense.
Why was I being locked away from the world? I mean spring break doesn’t last forever.
There’s so many things I could do but no, I’m stuck here in this stupid Cabin all alone!
This was it, I was no longer going to remain here. I have to do what I have to do.
My father is a lunatic just like the rest of these people I need to get out of here and inform the authorities of these psycho, animal exploiters.
***
“Just leave me al-" I shouted at the burly man with taught muscles firmly holding onto my wrist and dragged me with him.
He pressed his sweaty palm to my mouth , silencing me which made me want to puke.
He threw me on the floor of the warehouse and I curled in a ball and shut my eyes.
“Well, well” look what we have here. You thought you could escape” Lance chuckled.
“Good job Tito” Lance spoke again this time to the burly man.
“We have cameras everywhere just because it’s night doesn’t mean we can’t see you” the voice laughed, I chose not to look up.
“What are you even going to do with me, you psychotic lunatic?!” I questioned sternly, waking up and looking him dead in the eye.
“It’s not what I’m going to do to you. It’s what you’re going to do for us, Harper” Lance stated.
What can I possibly do for them?
What do these people even want from me?
