Chapter 8: Silver embroidery
An outstretched hand, was in front of my eyes. Before thinking, I grabbed the hand which instantaneously warmed my icy one. I toppled on my feet as they made contact with the ground.
A pair of eyes, icy blue in colour. Studied me from top to bottom and bottom to top. Slightly embarrassed by my choice of clothing which was now wet I walked briskly towards the cabin which Lance had showed dad and I earlier today, and away from the warehouse.
"Thank you so much" I gratefully said with a row of tears attempting to make its way down the side of my face.
"Are you okay?" a voice softly questioned breathing deeply trying to catch up to my pace.
I lifted my head up, and there stood a young girl. If I wasn't mistaken she was around her early twenties. Golden strands of hair swept across her freckled face. The voice belonged to a slim blonde, with hooded eyes, full lips and tan skin who had the cutest of dimples.
"I suppose" I replied. What happened to me?" I asked abruptly halting.
***
"Girl there's a lot you don't know and yes, it does work that way. The Alpha is, in simple terms the leader and head of the pack. The second in command is the the Beta he's like the Alpha's right hand man. The Delta is the third in command" Bethany replied, handing me some clean clothing and a towel.
"Thank you. I didn't know that werewolves had a system of some sort".I said, taking the items from her hand and giving her a small smile.
"Is there anything else you'd like to know?" Bethany questioned turning towards the closet door and closing it.
"You never really answered my question. What happened to me, earlier?" I interrogated her.
Her bright blue eyes changed colour and became all dim and cold. Her face became pale. It almost seemed as if she'd seen a hideous figure.
Why was she suddenly so tensed and almost scared like. Was she not telling me something?
"Why don't you have a shower and we'll talk about it afterwards because girl, you stink like sweaty old gym clothes" Bethany laughed loudly clenching her tummy soon after a look of pity played on her face.
Maybe, the reason why I stink like sweaty old gym clothes, is because I've been in a boot filled with them for almost an hour today!
Oh and I was in a filthy warehouse thing filled with the decent of death and decay.
Yes! My day was just amazing.
After, the incident Beth, invited me over to her cabin.
Her luxuriously furnished cabin.
She seemed really friendly, and quiet harmless.
Besides that, I had no clean clothes over here and she seemed to wear the same size clothing as me except she was a bit shorter.
"You can use the shower in this room. It's the spare room actually. I don't really use it I don't usually get any guests" she stated with sorrow staining her voice.
I appreciated her kindness. Maybe we didn't know each other that well but it could be the start of something amazing.
A new friendship.
***
"Oh I don't know. It's not really my place to do this. I mean I think she seems like a regular girl" Bethany spoke into her cell phone.
Was she speaking about me?
I doubt.
She placed her phone down onto the kitchen isle as soon as she noticed my presence. She gave me a weak smile, turned towards the fridge and pulled a plastic bottle of fresh cream.
"You look famished, are you hungry? She asked pouring, the fresh cream into a large pan, filled which pasta, garlic and red peppers.
"Hungry is a rather mild word, I'm more like starving." I chuckled.
Beth giggled and placed pieces of chicken into the cream, pasta and vegetable mixture.
"I'm making Chicken Alfredo. You don't mind do you?" she inquired and studied my face for a response.
I nodded in approval.
Beggars can't be choosers.
"What happened to me earlier? I asked, placing my fork onto the plate and gazing up at Beth who was disgustingly eating her way down her plate.
"Don't look at me that way. You know I love chicken Alfredo" she glared at me and pointed her fork at me which only made me feel all amused at her.
Setting down her fork onto the dining table. She wiped her face which was full of the creamy sauce.
"Harper, well I don't know. Probably you had some allergic reaction to one of the chemicals in Dr G's room" she answered.
"I've never mentioned, anything about seeing or meeting Dr Graham. How did you even know about that?" my eyebrows furrowed in confusion and my heart thumped with fear.
"Obviously I saw you, duh" she spoke with uncertainty lacing her voice. She picked up her fork and continued her assault on that poor plate of pasta.
"Why are you even in here? No regular person like yourself lives in these confides. Why do you know so much about werewolves?" I queried her. I studied her face anticipating her response.
Engrossed in minutes of silence neither of us saying anything or even making the slightest of sound.
Standing up I walked over to the kitchen and deposited my plate into the sink. I washed it along with my glass cup which contained a delicious cranberry juice.
"Thank you for everything. I hope I get to see you again" I walked over to Beth who was now lazily laying down on the couch watching television.
She stood up, and embraced me in a warm hug.
"I'm sorry for not answering any of your questions. We are being watched. One more thing do not tell Lance what I just told you. I added my number to your cell phone in case you needed to talk " She whispered into my ear and pulled away from the hug.
What's with all the "we're being watched" nonsense.
Haven't "they" whoever "they" were heard of the word privacy!
First, Dr G mentioned it and now, Bethany too. I was surely going to ask Lance, but Bethany said that I couldn't.
Something was strange was going on here.
I just wanted to get away from this place.
I searched for my car keys in my old clothes which I had folded neatly and placed onto the guest room bed.
Nothing.
Oh yes they must have probably fell on the ground when those idiots had taken me unwillingly.
Great.
I was stuck in this hell hole.
With no hopes of escaping whatsoever.
Armed bulky men guarded the entrances and exits of the area, where the warehouse and cabins were located which was what Bethany had told me.
I said my final goodbye to Beth and journeyed towards my cabin.
***
After walking for almost, what seemed like an eternity. I found my cabin.
Finally.
I turned the golden coloured door handle and stepped inside.
Bags.
Bags.
Bags.
Shopping bags, filled the entire living room along with toiletries and other essentials from shoes, to clothing, to under garments.
Grocery bags along with cleaning detergents were scattered in the dining room.
I walked over to the dining table to set the food and cleaning items in some cupboards.
A jet black box which was embroidered with intricate silver designs making that shape of a moon and silver flowers, sat on the dining room table.
Along with that box came back beautifully hand written note.
I recognised that handwriting anywhere.
