It was a normal day. Its been a month since Ruby joined Y/n's personal guard. She walked with him down the halls of tbe castle. He stopped in front of a family portrait. 

Y/n: Its not easy you know.

Ruby: hmm?

Y/n: You know it too. Losing family.

Ruby: Y...yeah.

Y/n: My father died first. Then my mother. Not many will admit it to me. But their glad she is dead. And I wouldn't blame them.  Do you know what my mother has done?

Ruby: No. Not good things.

Y/n: If she didn't have it her way. It was death for others.  Some days I questioned if my dad loved my mom, or feared her. 

Ruby: Im...sorry.

Y/n: You've been around almost a month now. And yet you rarely speak. Why is that?

Ruby: I...rather not say.

Y/n: Alright. I'm sure you have you're reasons. 

Ruby: Why do you care?

Y/n: Because. I know how it feels, to feel alone.

Ruby in head:  He's so different.  I don't get it.  No one else showed me kindness like he does.

Later that day Y/n was in the bath. But then he heard the door open.

Y/n in head: Oh no. I didn't lock the door! I'm a fucking idiot!

It was Ruby. She saw Y/n.

Ruby: I'm sorry!

Y/n faced away from her.

Y/n: Its alright.  Its my dumb fault.  If you're already undressed.  You can come in. I won't look and this thing is big enough. 

Ruby got in and sat down behind Y/n back close to his.  The silence was awkward. 

Y/n: You know? It ain't easy to be king.

Ruby: I bet.

Y/n: You're expecting to keep everyone safe. I'm grateful for my allies. But still. Its so difficult. 

Ruby felt something in herself. 

Ruby: You still want to know my history?

Y/n: Yeah.

Ruby: Okay. Before I was three my mother died. My father took out the grief and sadness on me. Blaming me for her death. He taught my sister to hate me. My uncle trained me but didn't help past that.  I got accepted into Beacon. I had a team with my sister and two others. One girl named Weiss, thought she should have been leader and tried to have me killed.  But before all that. A guy named Jaune asked me out. I said yes, dumbest thing I ever did. He didn't want me. Just wanted to get another girl jealous.  He cheated on me the first chance he got.  I fled the kingdoms because in every one more mercenaries tried to kill me.  And that's what led me here. *starts to cry* I wish I knew my mom. I wish she was there. Then none of it would have happened to me.

Y/n felt bad. Worse than normally hearing about these things.  He moved his hand backwards and grabbed her hand. It made Ruby flinch, but she tightly grabbed his hand back.

Y/n: I always was feared as a kid. Everyone always worried about upsetting me. Not only because of my power. But my mom. If she so much as didn't see me smile. She killed a man.
I had a lot of girls try to get me to marry them. I didn't want that. I didn't want it to be for power, money, or fear of what I'll do.  I'm still certain my father was scared of my mother.  But what could he do? She would probably have killed him if he didn't marry her.  Both of us got screwed up lives. 

Ruby: *wipes tears from eyes* Yeah. Y/n?

Y/n: Yeah?

Ruby: *lets go of hand* turn around. 

Y/n nervous: W...what?

Ruby: You heard me. Turn around. 

Y/n: I can't. 

Ruby: Please.  I...want you to look.

Y/n didn't kno what to do.  His normal composed nature has been broken.  But he decided to complete Ruby's request. He turned around to see her looking right at him face bright red.

Ruby nervous: You're the first. The first I let look at me so vulnerable. 

Y/n nervous: Your...you're beautiful. 

Ruby: Really?

Y/n nervous: Yeah.

Ruby: Y/n. You've been the only one to show me kindness. 

Y/n: At first. Its because I knew of the silver eyed warrior tales. But as I learnt of your past.  I felt something, a connection.  

Ruby: I know it hasn't been long. But I can't wait. I won't wait. Y/n...I love you. 

Y/n: I...love you too.

Ruby moved closer to Y/n. She softly placed her lips on his and he accepted the kiss. They parted after some time.

Y/n: We should do this later. For now. We should at least leave the bath.

Ruby: Alright. 

They left the bath.  But as something new. A couple that has been through much on their own. Will now face their pasts together.
