Chapter Three

Slight Warning
Small mentions of suffering/pain mentioned in the first half.

He pressed himself against the wall further as if there were a way to escape the image and run away. He wanted to see nothing. He wanted to hear nothing. He wanted to feel nothing. Kook was terrified. Terrified of the person who used to chase away his nightmares. Terrified of the person who looked completely harmless. Terrified of his best friend.

Weak. He felt weak. His feet were trembling, his legs shaking, losing the ability to support him. A slip of his foot. A slip of his foot was all it took for him to fall with a thud. Pain trickled it's way through Jungkook, making sure to seep into every cell in his being. His arms fell to the floor, attempting to stabilise himself, to hold on to something. His eyes squeezed shut. He shut them so tightly that it became painful; very painful. But he needed to drive away the images. The images of a dead Taehyung. The images of blood. The images of death.

"Stop" he mumbled as his head began throbbing. It was as if someone had taken a knife to his skull. He pressed his head against his knees, trying to balance out the internal pain. The rest of the world slowly became detached; all he could focus on was the pain rooted deep in his head.

"Pathetic. You cant handle a little pain?! Absolutely pathetic."

A deep, strange voice resonated inside his mind, telling him things, talking to him, accompanying him.

"I can't believe you. Look at yourself, YOU'RE TURNING WEAK! Pick yourself up! Be a man!"

Jungkook felt trapped, trapped in his own mind. He was meant to be safe. This wasn't meant to happen. His voice shook in fear, "Go away. I-I dont w-want you here. L-lea-leave me."

The voice let out a small chuckle, and began speaking as though it were grinning. "Are you scared of me? Sweetheart, you're not meant to be afraid of me. You pathetic bunny. What am I, the big bad wolf? You're not meant to escape me, so why don't you listen to me instead."
The tone suddenly turned serious and intimidating. "Man up Jeon. You're stuck with me whether you like it or not Jungkook. STOP. BEING. SO. WORTHLESS."

The young man began tugging at his hair. Maybe if he inflicted pain to himself, he would be left alone. He wanted to be left alone. Without that voice.

"Jungkookie~"
"You don't really want to hurt yourself do you? Just stop. Stop everything. I'll take care of it all. Let me take care of my Jungkookie."

He began shaking his head frantically, maybe if he shook hard enough it would go away. His headache grew worse, causing him to let out a groan and pull on the strands of his hair more. He just needed to wait. Someone would save him again. Someone would rid him of that monster and it would be okay It would be okay. Absolutely okay. Completely fine. Fine.

It hurt. It hurt so much. He wanted to stop the pain. Stop it all and just be free. He hated being stuck in his own mind. His mind was a terrifying place, practically hell itself. He had a devil in his mind.

Tick. Tock. One second.
Tick. Tock. Five seconds.
Tick. Tock. Thirty seconds.
Tick. Tock. One minute
Tick. Tock. Two minutes.

He began feeling weak. It was hard to fight back. Fighting back took so much work. It left Jungkook weak, and almost as pale as the lifeless body that shared the room with him.

His eyelids began fluttering shut. His body fell on the floor, unable to sit up properly. He laid on the cold ground, clutching his heart, praying that it would keep beating.

Black.

Empty

Silent.

Dark. It was too dark. Jungkook loved black but hated dark. The dark haunted him: it would always be there, following him, stalking his thoughts and feelings. And if he were to fall weak, the darkness would welcome him with a horrific smile. When he was asleep, the darkness would make sure he never felt happiness. It was horrifying: it would twist into his mind, spreading itself to every small surface and taking over. It shifted, more and more as the nights passed, and when he thought it left, it never did. It remained in Kook's mind, often taking the shape of nightmares, strolling, caressing his walls. Darkness never left. It was always there to destroy him, inch by inch, until his entire being was devoured by it.

Jungkook's eyebrows furrowed, his head was aching. His nostrils were infiltrated by the scent of cleanliness. It smelt too clean, like the building had faced a flood of cleaning supplies. He quickly realised that his neck had been aching, perhaps due to his sleeping position. Kook shifted slightly on what felt like a bed, but his eyes pleaded to stay closed, afraid that if they would open, they would be struck with that gruesome image. He gulped, gripping the bedsheets as he slowly opened his eyes.

It was bright. Very bright. It took Jungkook a while to get accustomed to the painfully white walls that were surrounding him. Hospital. He was in a hospital, but why. Kook felt a small burst of pain strike his head as he tried to remember what exactly caused him to black out. Was it the body? The blood? Or was there something he had forgotten?

His thought process was brought to an end by a quiet snoring noise. A few steps away, on a seemingly uncomfortable chair, was a man. A man named Min Yoongi. He was paler than usual, as though he hadn't taken the time to care for himself. Even from a distance, Kook knew that Yoongi hadn't slept for days; there were dark bags under his eyes, but that didn't seem to be all.

Jungkook stumbled on his steps as he tried to walk out of the bed. He felt a little hazy, probably because of the drugs injected in his body. As he got closer to the older male, he realised something. There were dried up tears on Yoongi's cheeks. His nose was red, and although he was sleeping, he had a frown on his face. Yoongi had been crying. Perhaps someone hurt Yoongi, Jungkook thought.

The older could feel someone was watching him sleep. He opened his eyes to find a confused Jungkook staring at him.

Without wasting a second, he threw himself into the younger's embrace. "You're going to be the death of me," he sniffled as Jungkook played with the hair at his nape, trying to comfort the shorter. Kook knew that he was causing Yoongi pain, but he didn't want to, he didn't mean to hurt his friend. He only wanted his hyung happy. Jungkook wanted his hyung to be happy with him.

"Stop doing this to me Jungkook-ah"
