Calvin was at his office looking at an empty space smiling. He glanced at the clock on the wall, it read 12:45 pm, 'why isn't the time moving at all!!' he sighed. He has never been that eager to leave his office. He contemplated many times to leave his office early and finish the remaining time at Winnie's house but he thought Winnie wouldn't like that and he quickly dismissed the idea, he didn't want to do anything that would upset Winnie and ruin the night. He wanted everything to be perfect.
Calvin was distracted from his thought by a knock on his door. He quickly slid back to his table and pretended to write before muttering a yes to let the person in. It was his secretary, Linda.
"Linda, how may I help you?"
"Sir, I just got a call from the Martin Gold company," Linda answered nervously.
"And?" he raised his eyebrow.
"They're saying they won't renew the contract,"
"What!!?? Why!!?"
"I don't know, they didn't say,"
"WHAT THE..!??"
"Sorry sir"
"Connect me to them now!! How can they do that out of nowhere? We have been a very good customer of them, how can they suddenly do this?"
"Yes sir, I'll connect you to Mr Henry's office right away," Linda told him.
"Henry?? Was he the one who told you that?" He asked, trying to stay calm.
"No Sir. It was his secretary," she answered.
"WHAT? For an important matter like this, he didn't tell you himself? Actually no, he was supposed to request a meeting and discuss this with me, how can he.....I was in such a good mood today, that son of a...." he stopped and took a big breath, "Linda, connect me with him. There must be a misunderstanding, I shall clear that."
Linda left the room immediately. Calvin sighed and rested his back on the chair, 'nothing can ruin today!' he smiled, trying to stay positive.
Linda hurried back a few minutes later. Calvin already didn't like the look she had on her face. He could tell it was bad news.
"I'm sorry Sir. I couldn't connect to him. His secretary said he is busy and that if you need to talk to him you should make an appointment," she told him apologetically.
"WHO THE HELL DOES HE THINK HE IS!! I'M A BUSY MAN TOO, HE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO IS BUSY!!" he yelled, linda flinched but she immediately put the forced smile back on her face, she was used to all the yelling and the swearing by then, it was nothing new.
Linda waited for Calvin to calm down before speaking again. "What should I do Sir?" she asked.
"What do you mean what should you do!! Did you start this job today?? Go make an appointment for later or tomorrow morning," he said angrily.
"I alredy did that sir, she told me he is busy this whole week and next week. She said she will see if there's an open spot after next week and let me know."
"UNBELIEVABLE!!! DOES THIS MAN THINK HE IS A PRESIDENT OR WHAT!!??" He sighed heavily, he should calm down. "Then make an appointment for lunch or dinner tomorrow."
"Mr Henry never does business meetings during lunch or dinner. I heard he always says meals are for enjoying with people you love and who you are comfortable with," Linda said smilingly until he saw the irritating expression on his boss's face and remembered who she was talking to, she wiped the smile off of her face as quickly as it appeared.
"UGHHH!!" he angrily threw the things on his desk. Linda flinched and took a step back as a reflex before quickly composing herself back and return to her initial posture; hands folded in-front and a smile, which was her signature posture, she had to do at least that much to stop herself from throwing a pot on Calvin's face as a reflex one day. She looked at the mess he made and mentally groaned. I now have to clean on top of all this.
"How dare he!!!! We're a jewelry company, how is he expecting us to run a business with no gold!!" He yelled. "And you, you better go and make me an appointment with him or otherwise you're fired. You have until tomorrow. I don't care if it's in midnight or sunrise but it has to be this week."
"Yes Sir," she answered politely, fighting the urge to go write a resignation letter and throw it on his face. 'I really need this job! I really need this job!' she quietly chanted as she exited his office.
Calvin watched as Linda left the room, "HENRY MARTIN!!!!!!!!" he angrily clenched his fists. He hated the guy. They had never met but he already hated him so much. He never thought it was possible to hate someone you never met that much untill then. Calvin hated being second more than anything and with Henry it kept on happening more than he had like to admit.
Henry Martin, the son of the most wealthy man in the country, the current COO and the only successor of Martin's Gold company. The youngest wealthiest businessman. Bullshit!!! He was the real deal, he started from the scratch all by himself. He should be praised more instead of him. How can he be ranked second on the list with Henry being placed first he just couldn't understand.
More important how can Henry get the award of the most outstanding achievement of the entrepreneur of the year award instead of him!? That award belonged to him. That was when his hatred for him grew deeper, he took what was his.
It was a year ago, Calvin was so ready to receive the award. He even had a handmade suit done by the most famous designer in the country. And then they gave it to him!! And to think that he had the audacity of sending a representative to the award ceremony.
What was so great about him that he won't let the media publicize his face. Henry never attends any public events. He thinks he is so special!! 'This is the problem with people who were born with a silver spoon,' Calvin hated people like that. They take everything for granted, they're spoiled and oblivious to how the real world works.
He once heard the executives who had a chance to meet him talk about how handsome he was, that he was the most handsome young man they have ever seen, pfff he was positive they were trying to kiss up to him.
And if all that is not enough he is now trying to mess with my business! Calvin was sure that was all his doing. For some unknown reasons he felt the guy hated him too. After all wasn't Calvin his competitor? Or was he too far behind from him for him to consider him as his competitor? No way!
'I should just talk to Martin instead. After all He is the one I first signed the contract with,' the thought came to him. He picked the phone and rang Linda's number.
"Linda connect me with Mr Martin first. I'll be waiting," He ordered her.
"Ok, Sir" she answered from the other end.
Calvin waited for few minutes before he heard back from Linda.
"I talked with his secretary Sir, She said Mr Martin is on a holiday," Linda told him.
"A holiday!? For how long? When will it end?Wasn't the man known to be a workaholic? Since when did he start taking holidays??" He said in frustration.
"I don't know Sir. His secretary said she knew nothing," Linda answered.
"What does she know then!!??? Are you sure it's his secretary!!" He shouted, more frustrated.
"Yes Sir, I'm sure." she answered him.
"You think I needed you to answer that!!??" he yelled at her. "Find out where Mr Martin normally goes to pass time, A gym, Golf, something like that, I'm sure he has a place like that, all rich people do. Let me know when you do."
"Ok Sir," she responded.
"You better find it before the weekend ends if you want to keep your job. Understood??"
Linda rolled her eyes, "Yes, I understood Sir" 'The weekend starts tomorrow, today is Friday for God's sake!' She internally yelled.
Calvin put the phone down and glanced at the clock, "Woah it's time already, I didn't even notice," he closed the files on his desk and grabbed his keys before walking out of his office.
"Today is gonna be a great day and not even Henry can change that," Calvin smiled at the thought. The thought of spending an evening with Winnie was enough to make him forget all his worries.

"Mom! Dad!" Haroon called as they enter his house. "Oh hey dad," he said after spotting his Dad on the couch reading newspaper.
"Oh you guys are back from school. Your mom went to the supermarket to get some groceries," Haroon's dad said.
Calvin saluted him playful before he went to the fridge to get some water. Haroon's Dad smiled at him. That was the greeting Calvin always gave him cause Haroon's dad was a soldier.
"Good afternoon Mr Rashid!" Michael greeted him cheerful.
"Hey Mike! What happened to your jaw?" Haroon's dad asked Michael.
"Uh nothing, its just.."
"He said he got it from falling down the stairs this morning!" Haroon told his father as he followed Calvin to grab a bottle for himself.
"This doesn't look like a cut from falling down," Haroon's dad said as he slowly approached Michael "Wait...were you trying to shave??"
Calvin and Haroon stopped what they were doing and ran back to them.
"Uh..I..I...yeah," Michael said in a defeated tone as he stared down on his feet.
Calvin fell in a fit of laughter. "There's actually one thing the almighty Mike can't do. This is news!"
Haroon nudged Calvin to shut him up. Calvin mouthed what, Haroon face palmed himself.
"You should have asked me to teach you son, come with me I'll teach you how to shave perfectly so you won't cut yourself next time."
"Oh thanks Mr Rashid," Michael said excitedly as he followed him.
Haroon rolled his eyes at Calvin after Michael and Haroon's Dad left the room.
"What did I do?" Calvin asked, confused.
"You can only do it better than him because you've someone to teach you!" He shook his head at him,.
"Oh! I didn't think of it that way" Calvin said in a small voice. "That's why he lied to us where he got the cut, he thought we would pity him!" He said in realization.
"Must be it! He rarely talks about his father, I bet at times like this is when he miss him most. I can't imagine growing up without a father!" Haroon sighed.
A moment later Esha walked in with groceries. They both ran to help her with the groceries.
"Oh you guys are back already, I wanted to cook before you get here"
"It's ok Mom, we are not that hungry," Haroon told her.
"Where's Mike?" Esha asked after scanning the whole room.
"At times I feel like you like Mike more than me!" Haroon pouted playfully.
Esha laughed, "I love all of you." She hugged them both.
"So where is he? I brought his favorite yogurt!" She asked.
"He is in the washroom with with Mr Rashid. He is teaching him how to shave. He cut his jaw this morning!" Calvin said.
"Oh my sweetie! Is he alright?" Esha asked worried.
"People don't die from shaving their jaws, don't worry mom Esha," Calvin chuckled.
"And she is wondering why I think she likes Mike more! Last time I cut my finger with a knife when she asked me to cut the melons she yelled at how clumsy I was," Haroon sighed playfully. Calvin laughed at him.
"That's because you are clumsy, but I do love you my pumpkin," Esha laughed as she pinches his nose playful.
"And you my sweet pie," he pinched Calvin's too. They all grinned.
