❝Our brother is missing and all they wanted to talk about was having a party because Harrington's parents are out of town.❞
[Chapter Two: The Weirdo on Maple Street]

Beth didn't care to stay in school after she finished her chemistry test, especially after what went down that morning, so she was currently waiting for Jonathan to pick her up.
The two were going to go search for Will themselves, since the police and any other volunteers hadn't had any luck yet.
Beth drummed her fingers on her bag as she scanned the parking lot for the familiar blue of her brother's vehicle, and when it pulled in, she immediately ran and opened the passenger door.
"I thought you were kidding when you said you'd miss the rest of school today." Jonathan remarked as he pulled out of the parking lot, once Beth buckled herself in.
"Yeah well, I didn't want to have to listen to Harrington and the other idiots, trash talk our family all day." Beth said, looking out the window.
"Just ignore them. How do you think I deal with it?" Jonathan sighed.
"I wish they had some sense of decency. Our brother is missing and all they wanted to talk about was having a party because Harrington's parents are out of town. And I would ignore them if my best friend wasn't currently swapping spit with one of them." Beth remarked, trying to put her feet up on the dashboard.
"Beth!" Jonathan scolded, and smacked her legs so Beth pulled them down.
Beth stuck out her tongue playfully at him and watched as Jonathan turned on the radio. She then looked out the window and noticed that they were heading out of town, "Where are we going, Jon?"
Jonathan paused for a moment before responding, "To Lonnie's."
"We're going to Dad's?" Beth's eyes widened and she sat up and stared at him, "What the hell, Jon?"
"No one's looked there yet and no one will so we have to do it ourselves." Jonathan explained, "You can stay in the car if you don't want to go in."
Beth shook her head, "No, I'm not letting you do this by yourself."
Jonathan nodded and cranked up the volume on the radio, but the old song changed and suddenly it was playing 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go' which was one of the Byers' siblings' favorite songs.
Beth and Jonathan traded a look before Jonathan trained his eyes back on the road, and Beth drummed her fingers somberly on her knee.

It took a little while to get to their dad's place and once they got there, Jonathan turned to Beth, "Are you sure you don't want to stay here?"
"Don't give me that protective brother stuff, Jon because I can give it right back. I'm coming with you." Beth said, and made a show of unbuckling her seatbelt and getting out of the car.
"Alright come on then." Jonathan mumbled, grabbing his stuff and leading the two to the front door.
Jonathan peered into the house before banging on the door, "Hello?"
A woman made her way to the front door and opened it, staring at both of them, "Um, can I help you?"
Beth resisted the urge to roll her eyes as Jonathan said, "Yeah, is Lonnie around?"
"Yeah, he's out back. What do you want?" She asked them.
Beth and Jonathan traded a look before Jonathan pushed her aside to go in, "To have a look around."
Jonathan immediately ran and peered in the rooms, "Will?"
"Hey. What do you think you're doing?" The woman asked.
Beth gave the woman a tight-lipped smile as she followed her brother, "We'll be fast."
Suddenly someone slammed Jonathan into the wall and Beth took a step back almost bumping into the woman, and she realized that it was her dad.
"Get off!" Jonathan pushed him off of him.
"Damn, you've gotten stronger." Their dad said, impressed and then looked at Beth.
"Will someone please explain what the hell is going on?" The woman asked.
"Jonathan, Beth, Cynthia. Cynthia, this is Jonathan and Beth." Their dad introduced them, "My oldest."
The woman stared at the two teenagers in shock.
"Well, come here." Their dad said, trying to hug the two twins. Beth reluctantly let him hug her but Jonathan pushed him off.
Jonathan resumed his search for Will which led them out into the backyard. A car that looked brand-new was sitting outside on the lawn and Jonathan immediately made his way towards it.
"Look at this beaut. You should have seen it when I got it. Took me a year but it's almost done." Their dad said.
Jonathan opened the trunk of the car, to look inside.
"Really? You want to check up my ass too?" Their dad asked, sarcastically, "He's not here. I'm telling you the same thing as I told those cops. He's not here and he hasn't been."
"How the hell were we supposed to know that?" Beth asked, crossing her arms.
"Hey watch your language, Bethany." He scolded her.
"Yeah, like how you watch yours?" Beth challenged.
"Beth!" Jonathan shook his head at his sister and moved towards them, "Why didn't you call Mom back?"
"I don't know. I just assumed she forgot where he was." Their dad shrugged, "You know that he was lost or something. That boy was never really good at taking care of himself."
"Seriously, Dad?" Beth shook her head at her dad.
"This isn't some joke, alright? There are search parties, reporters-" Jonathan explained.
"Hopper's not still chief, is he?" Their dad asked and shook his head, "Tell your mother she's got to get you out of that hellhole. Come out here to the city. People are more real here, you know. And then I could see you more."
Jonathan traded a look with his sister before shaking his head.
"What, you think I don't want to see you?" Their dad asked.
"We know you don't." Jonathan answered.
"Or you would have." Beth added.
"See, that's your mother talking right there." Their dad explained, "She even know you two are here?"
At Beth and Jonathan's silence he nodded, "Oh great. So one kid goes missing, the others run wild? Some real fine parenting right there. Look, all I'm saying is maybe I'm not the asshole, all right?"
Jonathan shook his head and reached into his bag before pulling out a missing person flyer that they'd copied and shoved it in his dad's hand, "In case you forget what he looks like. Come on, Beth."
"You know Dad. If you wanted to see us, then maybe just drive out and see us sometime. Instead of ignoring us all the time." Beth took another look at her dad before running after her brother.
Once the two got back in the car, Beth turned to Jonathan, "Well that went well."
"At least now we know that Will's not there." Jonathan answered, as they drove away from their dad's house.
"Is it weird that I want to go to that party now, just to erase this from my brain?" Beth asked, tugging her fingers through her hair.
Jonathan laughed, "All the partying in the world won't help us forget that our younger brother is missing or that our father is full of shit."
"Jonathan!" Beth laughed.
"I'm just saying." Jonathan said.
"You're right. Let's just go home." Beth whispered.
