𝗜 𝗦𝗔𝗪 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧.

Or I saw you see me first.

It didn't matter. You didn't care.

But why were you staring?

'Domi!' a girl rushed towards me, her feet tapping hurriedly past the compartments, crashing into my arms at full speed.

I smiled back warmly, hugging her tight.
'Lyra! Oh Merlin, I've missed you!'

'I've missed you too!' she giggled, pulling away and flashing her easy smile. 'So,' she continued, 'What did you do in the holidays? Did you shag anyone yet?'

I rolled my eyes and let out a laugh, 'I sent you letters you perv, and I went to Italy.'

'Love that.' she chuckled.

Lyra Edevane. Also known as my best friend. My only friend, really.
We're very close. Probably soul sisters in a sense. But I think if we'd met right now, we wouldn't even become friends. The reason why I say this, is because she's quite different from me.
She goes to weekend parties, gets drunk, hooks up with boys that have known her for less than 15 hours, drinks. She smokes, and one time, she almost got expelled from school for doing pot. How she got a free pass, I have no idea, but it must have something to do with her parents' money. They're all filthy rich.
I guess we kind of drifted when she started doing all that. She's not the type of person you hang out with every day.
She's like a street cat. Just comes and goes; no one knows how long or where she wanders to. She would be gone for days, without saying anything, and then suddenly appear in my dorm one night, laid on the floor with a board game.

But we both understand each other, no matter how different we are. And I think that's the most important bit in a friendship.

'And how have you been Oliver?' she asked my younger brother sitting next to me. Ollie was going to start his first year at Hogwarts, so it took a long time to gather him around the place, with him looking around everywhere. Let's just hope he doesn't get too lost at the castle.

'I'm good.' he mumbled nervously.

'Are you excited for your first day?' she replied.

He nodded, smiling more comfortably.

Ollie was a quiet boy at first. But once he's more around people, he's the biggest, most annoying little heathen. He's quite social, though, and I saw him already chatting with some new friends by our compartment.
I sighed, my cat Benjamin just purred as he cuddled next to me.

It had been a few minutes now the train started chugging on.
I pressed my face against the cold window, and clouds of condensation formed by each breath.
Looking inside, from the corner of my eye, I saw him. He stared deep into me, and he studied me like I was familiar.

It was almost an instant realisation once I noticed his platinum blonde hair.

Draco.

The sight of him, replays nostalgia I wish I had forgotten.

But I could never forget last year.

Draco, why did you have to break my heart?

Memories washed over my mind when I could now see him properly, sitting silently, legs crossed over one another, his arms resting lazily along his seat.
He stared. He still stared.

The train rumbled beneath our feet, like a calm lullaby.

Friends. We used to be best friends.
It was one of the greatest things to happen to my first years at Hogwarts. Meeting him. Befriending him over dinner on our first day. He wasn't like what others said he was. Maybe he was bad. Maybe he was selfish, and snobby. But he wasn't to me.

I remembered how, every morning, he would wait for me in the Great Hall, saving a seat for me to sit by him as we ate our oatmeal.
The way we giggled about all sorts of things, as we sat by the black lake, having our weekly afternoon picnics.
How he braided my hair spectacularly each night before we went to bed, so that my hair was curled when I woke up. He liked wavy hair.
How we would send each other silly notes under our desks, making sure Snape wouldn't catch us. And how we smirked to one another when Seamus burnt his hair yet again.
How we hugged for what felt like forever when he was in the infirmary, after an incident with a Hippogriff. And I was the one to bring him tulips to his hospital bed every day.
That was my favourite memory.

And of course, I didn't forget my terrible, terrible crush I had for him. How I never told him. I couldn't tell him.
Well, I was going to, one day, until he told me.

He told me about her.

How he loved her.

How I wished I was her.

The friendship. It broke, like a twig snapping under someone's foot when they step on it.
Pansy was the foot.
He kissed her. He dated her. He chose her.

Eventually, he stopped talking to me. Why? I wouldn't know.
We dissolved into nothingness. He looked at me like I didn't matter at all, like I never mattered at all.

But now he's looking. He's looking at me like 'I know you, and you know me too.'

The train finally came to a stop, reaching the destination of Hogwarts. Smoke puffed out the top, as it took its final breath.
All the students ran out, rushing to the fresh air outside the station, and hurrying to the gates of the school. Emotions were all over the place, but one main one was obvious on all the smiling faces. Happiness.
We really were glad to be back at Hogwarts.

'Ollie, follow me. This way.' I led him to the entrance with everyone else. He whined as he had to be separated from his new mates, but was soon lost in his own fascination of the castle.

As we arrived at school, all students were immediately escorted to the grand dining hall.

'Welcome back everyone.' Dumbledore
bellowed, his fork clinking against a glass,
'We are all so glad to have you back, and of course, we welcome the new students which are now attending Hogwarts.'
Everyone clapped and cheered. The Weasley twins whooped, stomping their feet.

'The new students will join now in the Sorting ceremony so can everyone take a seat as we sort them into each of your houses.' Professor McGonagall announced. 'There are Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin.'
All the new students gathered round, trembling nervously, as they took turns with the Sorting Hat.

I was sat at the Slytherin table, watching carefully as to who would be joining my house soon. The endless amount of clapping continued on and on, but it was always exciting to welcome newcomers to the table. When Ollie was called up, I held my breath.
The hat took a long sigh, then all of a sudden,

'Slytherin!'

Our whole table cheered and clapped, and he made his way to the other first year Slytherins. I smiled with gratitude, glad he was in my house.

I didn't notice Draco shuffle to where I was, sitting right beside me.

'Goyle, look at that boy. What kind of idiot wears trousers as big as that?'

My head whipped round at his voice. He was so up close, I could really see how much he'd changed.
His voice became deeper. Very deep now. It was almost unrecognisable, but I could still hear the huskiness in it that it always had.
Of course, he grew taller. But much taller now. His features have also become much more defined and masculine, and his jaw...Oh, why did he have to get prettier?
And it wasn't a surprise he was even more stuck up than before.

Draco noticed me staring, and he glanced my way, a small smirk playing on his lips.

'Good summer, Domi?' he said my first name, as if he hadn't ignored me for the past year.

'Like you care.'

'Hey, I care. So, What'd you do?'

'We went to Italy.' I muttered.

'Ooh la la. How romantic.' he cooed.

I let out a giggle. He always knew how to make people laugh. It was like he knew everyone's weak spots. He grinned at this, then turned back to Goyle.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗬 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗙𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥, and we all made our way to the common rooms.

The portrait was there to greet me, and once it opened, I stumbled towards my dorm.

I kissed goodnight to Ollie, as we walked to our rooms.

I lived with Lyra, and these two other French girls, who transferred for the first few years from Beauxbatons. But it looked like they went back, because I couldn't find them anywhere as I made my way in.

'Holy shit. Where did those bitches go?' Lyra dumped her suitcase and satchel on her bed, staring at the empty spot where the other two beds used to be.

My eyes widened in confusion.

'Hold on,' I told her, 'I'll go ask a prefect.'

I walked back out to the common room, only to find Draco alone on the couch, warming himself up by the fireplace.

'Um.' I cleared my throat, 'Where are the prefects?'

He looked up, giving a lazy smile, 'Why?'

'I need help with something.'

'What's the problem?'

I rolled my eyes, 'None of your business.'

'But you asked for help.' he smirked now, standing up and leaning against the couch.

'Yeah, from a prefect.'

'Exactly.'

My eyes narrowed in suspicion.
'What do you mean?'

He started walking towards me slowly, making me back away from his intense stare.
'Didn't you hear? I'm one of the prefects.'

My eyes widened in shock, and I gaped slightly at what he just said. I let out a chuckle,
'You're a- what? You're a prefect?' I burst into a giggle fit, 'Who made you prefect?'

He didn't look amused, more frustrated with my unexpected reaction.
'You see, I'm perfectly suited for that responsibility.'

I snorted.

He gave a cold glare, frowning, before saying,
'So what is your problem?'

I suddenly remembered why I was in here in the first place.
'Oh,' I said, 'Do you know why my roommates aren't here?'

He smirked,
'They've left for Beauxbatons again. So you're going to be all alone, I suppose.'

I gave a sarcastic smile,
'Lucky me.'

I turned to leave, but stopped dead, when he said,
'Goodnight, Peyton.'

My heart beat aggressively,
'Goodnight.'
