domitilla peyton

𝗔𝗦 𝗜𝗧 𝗚𝗢𝗧 𝗖𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗖𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗢 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗔𝗟𝗟, with only 5 days left till the date, I still hadn't got my dress sorted. I knew it wasn't a huge event, but I did want to make an effort. And I knew just who to go to.

I saw Hermione run across the hall as I made my way to breakfast this morning. Without a second thought, I followed after her in a hurry, stopping in front. Breathing heavily for air, my hands balancing on the wall, I waved at her,

'Hermione! I was wondering if you would help me with the-'

But her focus was somewhere else, and she looked really rushed, as she spoke in one big breath,
'I'm so sorry Domi, I have to go, something happened I'll talk to you later.'

'Oh, okay. I'll-' But I was cut off again. She hurried off somewhere, running away through the empty corridors, her footsteps echoing beneath the floorboards.

I sighed heavily. My back leaned against the wall. I guess I had to find my dress myself.

I was wondering what Hermione was in a rush for as I sat down on the Slytherin table, pouring oatmeal into my bowl. My spoon twirled through the porridge absentmindedly and I was staring into complete nothingness, deep in thought, when a finger prodded my shoulder harshly, cutting me off. I looked up, only to see the blonde boy towering over me. My back was slightly slouched over, so I immediately straightened myself out once I noticed him. He grinned, sliding down onto the seat next to me, placing his chin on his hand.
I rolled my eyes at him, mixing my spoon into the bowl again.
I tried not to notice how adorable he looked, with his messy morning hair and sleepy smile.

'Not even gonna say hi?' He pouted in mock sadness.
I scoffed, my lips turning up just a bit. I chewed on the insides of my cheeks to suppress a smile.

'Hi, moron. Did you know that's my nickname for you now? It suits you real well.'

He scowled at this,
'I'm trying to be nice to you, can't you see? You're making it very hard for me. You do know it's not a one way job, right?'

'Yeah, well...' I began, then realising I was too tired to come up with a witty comeback.

I started shovelling spoonfuls of porridge into my mouth exhaustingly. I could feel by the side of my vision, Draco looking at me intently as I ate.

'Quit staring. You're creeping me out.' I gave him a side eye, causing my spoon to accidentally miss my mouth completely. Porridge spilled on the side of my lips.
Second hand embarrassment flushed across my face as I abruptly reached for a tissue in the distance across the table. Draco howled, holding his stomach, as he grabbed the tissue and handed it to me, laughter still escaping from his mouth. I wanted to smack that pretty face of his. Faint dimples were present on his cheeks, and his eyes crinkled so sweetly as he laughed.
I felt a smile start to form. I wiped my face, and glared at him, before cracking up myself, unable to resist.

We were both still snickering, when Pansy Parkinson walked past us. She was giggling with her bestfriend, Millicent, when she stopped for half a second, her face turning into a glare, right before she went back to giggling, making her way to the other side of the table. Draco smirked to himself, in self satisfaction. So he's still not over it yet.

'Why did she even break up with you?' I wondered aloud.

He got cut out of his almighty ness, and looked at me, as if he just forgot I was there for a second, before quickly saying,
'It was mutual. Besides, you shouldn't be butting in to other people's business.' He nudged me on the arm.

I laughed sarcastically,
'Oh yeah, for the record, you are such a hypocrite. You were the one prodding on about what dress I'm gonna wear to the ball, so don't even, you little swine!'

He laughed again, obviously avoiding my question. I knew he wasn't going to answer it anytime soon, so I didn't press on further.
He stopped for a second, turning to face me,

'Are you still going with Diggory?'

I paused, putting down my spoon.
'Yes. He's my date.'

He sighed, facing down at the table, then glancing back up, straight into my eyes, like the time at the great hall, after dinner that day. It was hard to focus, as all I could do was get lost in his cold, stone orbs.
My breath hitched to a stop, waiting for a response.

Nothing.

He stood up in one big swoop, tucking his chair in, and walking away, hands shoved deep in his pockets. His head hung slightly. I saw his figure get smaller and smaller, as he descended down the halls, leaving me there, speechless.

𝗦𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗥𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗, right when I needed it.

Dress shopping time.

Obviously, Hermione wasn't able to help me out on that category. I still had no clue where she hurried off to yesterday, and haven't seen her since. Fine by me, my taste in dresses were great on its own. That's what I told myself.
I covered practically the whole of the high street in Hogsmeade, but none of the dresses in any of the clothes shops caught my attention. I was starting to lose hope, and questioning if I really wanted to go to this ball anyway. But there were still some more boutiques to visit, before making my final decision. Plus, I was craving some acid pops from Honeydukes.
I stepped over the crack on the pavement, pushing my way through the oak door. The bell chimed lightly as I entered, and a nostalgic scent of sugar and warmth wafted around me.
Looking around, the memories of most my childhood spent here, flooded into my head. It was as if I went back in time, little me, begging my mother out on the high street to pay for some sweets. It's been a long time since I've visited this place.
Shelves upon shelves were loaded with every possible sweet imaginable. My mouth uncontrollably watered slightly at the sight.
The man, Ambrosius, stood by the counter. His eyes sparked with shock as he saw me walk in. He excitedly waved at me, giving a warm, familiar smile I hadn't seen in ages.

'Merlin, if it isn't Domitilla Peyton! You look stunning as ever.'

I smiled back. He's grown a bit taller, as if that's even possible, and has shaved his beard which he used to have. Eye wrinkles were more defined on his face, but his smile was the exact same as I remembered.

'Thank you, it's been a long time. I missed your sweets.' I said, walking around the shop, scanning every package and every jar. Different smells entered and exited my nose as I passed through.

'What is it you're looking for today?'

'Acid pops, please.'

He reached up on a shelf, grabbing a parchment bag, and held it out for me on the counter. I paid, taking it and rummaging my hand in.
I stepped out for the next person, and was about to walk away, when I heard a familiar voice,

'Peppermint toads, please.'

I twisted around abruptly, to see the blonde boy, grabbing his own bag and dropping coins into Flume's hand. He turned around to look at me, aware that I noticed him. I faced down shyly, distracting myself with my bag. He grinned, walking towards me, his free hand in the pocket of his trousers. He wore a thick, green fair isle sweater, making him look annoyingly adorable as well.

'Hey Peyton, what're doing here?'

I squinted at him, crossing my arms.
'Could ask the same about you.'

'I'm picking out a suit for the ball, you numpty. Seems like you're doing the same. Although I assume it will be a dress, you wouldn't fit a suit well I don't think.' He smirked, crinkling his nose in a mocking manner.

Ugh, why does he always have to make witty jokes all the time. It was infuriating, but I also found it quite hilarious. I rolled my eyes, biting back a laugh.

'Okay, Mr Stalker. Now if you excuse me, I have a dress to find. See you.' I flipped him off, before walking out the door, the bell chiming behind me.

The last shop I visited was Gladrags Wizardwear. I guess it was ironic for the last shop to be the one I picked my dress in, but I was so happy with what I decided on. The moment I tried it in the changing room, and stood in front of the mirror, my heart fluttered.
The strapless top hugged perfectly on me, framing my curves in a flattering way. The black skirt puffed out just slightly for volume, and the hem lengthened all the way down, gracefully balancing on the ground, with a dramatic slit which was quite high and elegant.

I loved it.
