"Sheik I feel awful. Since the prom earlier, I've been feeling so sick."
"Have you drank your meds?"
"...no."
"Why?"
"I don't want to drink them!"
"There's no need to scream."
"But I feel so sick! I hate it, I'm in pain."
"Has your body been jerking around?"
"Kind of."
"Oh goddess. Zelda, you need to tell Robin."
"No!"
"Zelda-"
"No, I won't tell him. I'll deal with it myself."
"Please, at least call an ambulance before it happens."
"Don't exaggerate."
"I'm not exaggerating, Zelda, this is serious."
"It's not that serious."
"ZELDA IT'S SERIOUS, THIS IS ABOUT YOUR HEALTH AND-"
"STOP YELLING!"
"...I'm sorry. I didn't mean too."
"I'm so tired Sheik. I'm done with life."
"Don't say that, you don't mean it-"
"I do mean it, Sheik. I'm so tired. I hate this body. I hate this brain. I hate everything."
"Zelda-"
"I'm sorry, Sheik, I can't keep going. If I wake up tomorrow, let's forget this ever happened."
"ZELDA-"
She hung up.
1:39 am, June 18th
Sheik knocked on Ike's door harshly and repeatedly, until eventually he heard it be unlocked. A sleepy Samus opened the door, rubbing her eyes.
"What are you doing here?" She asked.
"Where's Ike?" Sheik asked.
"On his bed- hey!" He shoved her out of the way and ran up to the lower bed of the bunk bed, where Ike was sleeping. He grabbed him by the collar and slammed him down on the ground, which immediately woke him up.
"Ow! What the fuck-Sheik?" Ike said with a raised brow. Once he saw Sheik's state, he was fully awake. Sheik was shaking and sweating, fear was written all over his face and tears were welled up in his eyes. Something's wrong.
"Sheik," he got up and put his hands on Sheik's shoulders, shaking him slightly. "Sheik? Hey, what's wrong?"
Sheik's breathing was jagged, and the tears in his eyes started to fall. "It's Zelda. She... she-!"
Ike's heart spiked but he tried to remain calm.
"What's going on? What's wrong with Zelda?" Samus asked.
"It's nothing, don't worry, go back to sleep," Ike said.
"She sounds like she's in danger-"
"SAMUS!"
She flinched. "I wish you luck then." She climbed up the stairs to her bed and cuddled into her blanket.
Ike looked up at her then back down at Sheik. He took his hand and dragged him out of the dorm room, hurrying downstairs to the lobby. When they got there, they headed straight for the door and tried to heave it open, but it wouldn't budge. It was far past curfew, and no exceptions were made.
"Oh my goddess, oh my goddess," Sheik cried, his shaking becoming more and more violent.
"Calm down, Sheik. Let's call Robin, and-"
"No, she probably turned both of their phones off so we couldn't contact them."
"Would she really do that?"
"Yes, she doesn't want Robin to find out, at all costs."
Ike frowned. He didn't think Zelda would go this far to keep her secret from Robin. Even if it meant he might wake up to-
Ike shook his head and wiped tears that threatened to fall. He hugged Sheik and rubbed his hand up and down his back. "Our only option is to wait 'till sunrise. Let's hope everything goes well by then."
1:55 am, June 18th
Zelda stood in front of Robin, who was soundly asleep on his bed. She touched his hair and ran her hand through it. Soft as always, I'll miss it. She placed a kiss on his forehead.
"I'm sorry, Robin. I love you so much, my dearest bestie."
She laid down on her bed and closed her eyes.
3:46 am, June 18th
For the past couple of hours, Robin had felt on-and-off shaking from his bed. He wasn't awake by any means, but you know when you're not awake, yet can somewhat feel and hear what's happening around you? That's what he felt.
He wasn't sure what the shaking was. Could Zelda feel it too or was it his imagination? He'll ask her in the morning.
Maybe there was an earthquake, but from what he knew this wasn't a region that experienced earthquakes often. A once-in-a-lifetime chance, perhaps? He'll talk about it with Zelda tomorrow.
4:00 am, June 18th
Ike and Sheik were seating in the lobbies of the couch, waiting impatiently for the doors to open.
Sheik was seating opposite of Ike, his knees hugged to his chest as he rocked himself back and forth. He was silently praying, something Ike had never seen him do.
He tried it too. He wasn't sure if he should pray to Yune or Ashera, but nonetheless, he prayed. He prayed for her to be safe, he prayed for her to wake up.
He prayed for her to be happy.
4:59 am, June 18th
Robin woke up, much earlier than usual. However, since the sun was already somewhat up, he didn't notice.
5:00 am, June 18th
Ike and Sheik rushed out of the senior dorm and ran to the junior dorm. They weren't wearing any shoes, so their feet bled as they ran.
5:03 am, June 18th
Robin looked at his phone, which was lying on his bed, and finally realized how early he'd gotten up.
I got up early, but Zelda's probably already up by now. He didn't hear anything, though. No movement at all. Maybe she went out to her mystery place?
He climbed down his bed and walked to the desk, but he didn't see a note there.
5:04 am, June 18th
Ike and Sheik reached the junior dorm. Sheik snatched a master key from the janitor that was cleaning the floor.
5:04 am, June 18th
Robin turned around to face the bed and his heart nearly left his chest when he saw Zelda laying there. Her bed looked like a mess, which was very odd of her considering even when she slept, she was graceful.
Woah, I woke up earlier than Zelda, that's a first! He tip-toed his way to her bed and crouched down in front of her. One of her arms was over her face, the other on her stomach, one leg was hanging off the bed, and the other was one it. He chuckled.
"Jeez, did you have a party last night or something?" Robin laughed as he wiped saliva of her face. He noticed it was kinda foamy, which made him raise a brow.
"Zellie, come on, it's time to get up."
5:05 am, June 18th
Ike and Sheik ran up the stairs up that lead to Zelda and Robin's dorm.
Almost there, please, Zelda, please be okay, Ike thought.
5:05 am, June 18th
Robin called out to her more times, but she didn't respond at all. His stomach started feeling weird.
"Zellie? Hey, I know you're tired from last night, but you have to wake up," Robin said, shaking her slightly. When she didn't respond even then, he shook her more, not too harsh but enough to wake up a normal person. "Zellie? Zellie, why aren't you waking up?" He was starting to fear the worst.
Carefully, he placed his finger under her nose. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. An inhale. And exhale. Both very weak. It continued like this.
"Zellie? Do you have asthma, or something like that?" Robin asked, tears cornering his eyes. One last test.
5:06 am, June 18th
Ike and Sheik Zelda and Robin's dorm.
5:06 am, June 18th
Robin placed his hear against Zelda's chest. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing.
One, very small, very quiet, very slow heartbeat.
5:07 am, June 18th
Ike slammed the door open and Sheik rushed in, pushing away Robin and taking Zelda in his arms.
"PRESS THE EMERGENCY BUTTON!" Sheik yelled.
Ike already had. A loud alarm was ringing all throughout the building. A red light illuminated the whole room as well.
Ike stood by the door and waited for the paramedics to come. Sheik held Zelda close to him, tears dripping down his face.
And Robin, the poor fool, had to watch as everything unraveled in front of him without having a clue about why.
5:08 am, June 18th
An announcement came on, ordering all students to stay in their dorms so the paramedics could pass through without hassle.
5:10 am, June 18th
The paramedics arrived. They strapped in Zelda in a carrier and took her downstairs to get her to the ambulance. The three boys followed, though they kept their distance.
5:13 am, June 18th
Chrom appeared.
"What's going on?!" Chrom yelled as he ran up to the dorms. Once he saw the ambulance, he could only guess the worse had happened. He took a deep breath and started to walk towards it, when he felt a tug on his shirt.
Robin.
"Chrom, what's happening. I'm so... I'm so confused." He was looking down, but even then Chrom could tell all Robin could feel was fear and confusion.
"Listen to me, Robin-"
Robin gripped onto Chrom's shoulders. "I woke up before Zelda today, and I thought it was little weird. But then she wouldn't wake up."
"Robin-"
"I checked her breathing. She was barely breathing Chrom. It was like she was having an asthma attack, Chrom."
"Robin, please listen-"
Robin finally raised his head, his face was filled with tears. "AND THEN I CHECKED HER HEARTBEAT, AND GUESS WHAT CHROM?! THERE WAS BARELY ANY! HER HEART ISN'T BEATING PROPERLY, CHROM. IT'S BEATING LIKE SHE WERE ABOUT TO DIE, CHROM. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING, CHROM?! WHAT'S HAPPENING TO MY BEST FRIEND, CHROM?! WHY-"
"WHO EVER THE TEACHER IS, WE NEED YOU TO HURRY. SHE'S HAVING ANOTHER SEIZURE!"
Robin froze. "A seizure...?"
Chrom frowned and gently took Robin's arms off of him. "Come to the hospital as quickly as possible, I'll explain everything to you then." Chrom ran off to the paramedics, they got on the ambulance, and they were off.
A seizure?
Zelda has seizures?
Has she always experienced it?
Come to think about it, on the trip when they were watching movies, she hid her face whenever the screen flashed a lot. And whenever Robin found her asleep after he'd come back from somewhere, there'd always be foamy saliva at the corner of her moth, just like this morning. There'd be times where she twitched often, leave, then be back fully normal. And all those times she was dizzy, it wasn't from hunger, she was about to have a seizure.
And all those times he felt the bed shake tonight, that was her having seizures, whether multiple or just one really long one, he didn't know. And he didn't care. Because he didn't notice. He never did. He never bothered to.
"Zellie," Robin cried. Tears were falling like a waterfall at this point. He cried out, he screamed, and fell to his knees. "ZELLIE!"
