Bestie and the Beast
"Rose, you need to quit focusing on this, he's not worth your time anyway."
This phrase, and phrases like it are ones I got used to hearing from my best friend Jade. It was a month since a certain someone had walked completely out of my life, leaving me absolutely miserable. He had been one of my closest friends for a few years now, and had finally confessed his love for me, and swore to never leave my side- until a few months later when another, seemingly prettier girl took my place.
Still after four weeks, I believed it was my fault. What was it that I could have done to possibly drive him away so quickly?
Jade never once doubted me. Even through pain and tears, she stayed by my side, quietly cursing the unfaithful creature who had dared to break my heart. Sometimes, it wasn't even quietly. She would shoot him flaming glances and throw stinging words at him whenever she would see him, which brought humor and satisfaction to my life again.
In my eyes, everything I thought I knew was falling apart, as it so often seems when these kinds of situations occur. I had never stopped to consider what a wonderful friend Jade had been throughout this entire situation.
She had been there for me when I needed her most, and then some, as she still continues to be there for me, even almost a year later when my days have greatly improved. Jade has continued to bring reliability, color, humor and a never ending flow of strict but much needed cleaning criticism into my life.
Now, she begins to prepare her Maid of Honor speech years in advance, storing memories and movie quotes in her head, waiting for the perfect opportunity to either embarrass me or give me long lasting memories.
Even as plans of her moving away start to hang threateningly on the horizon, I know that she will forever be my bestie, helping me overcome the beasts.
