31: The Decisions of Dress
It has been a little over a month now and Broody's calls have finally died down. He called me every few days and left messages but I deleted them before I even listened to them. I have only been back home for a week now, and Matt had come to move himself in. After spending time with John, Lara and her son it was nice to be back home. I was warming up to Lara and was confident she was good for John but they seemed like a family already – without me – and although I didn't feel unwanted or unneeded I thought it was best to give them a chance to be a family without me raining on their parade.
Matt and I have been packing up the boxes of Julie's things all day – all except the Xbox which Matt has claimed is staying here. With the decisions made Julie had taken Thomas up on his offer – whatever that maybe – and left Matt and I to move in to our old place. She also about a week after moving announced that she and Thomas were getting engaged, which, as you can imagined shocked everyone who's last name wasn't Wilder.
I was walking down the street when my phone buzzed. Another message from Jordan. He has been constant in his texts and occasional calls asking me how I was doing, if I was still alive and what I was up to. My feelings for the man in question hadn't shifted or altered in anyway, they just laid dormant under my skin – making my hands twitch every time he entered my mind. This reaction was what made me a little nervous about seeing him again, it will be the first time since he drove me to the airport and we said our goodbyes and I wasn't entirely sure what was going to happen or, more importantly, what I wanted to happen.
Was he going to have a date at the party? Would he still want me? Has he changed much since I last saw him? – god knows I have. All these questions were running through my mind making no space for any other information.
I opened the door to dress shop on the main city strip and before long saw the familiar skinny figure with her light brown hair freshly dip dyed blond frowning at a red dress. I snuck up behind her and leaned in to her hear. "Boo."
Her scream could probably be heard from Mars but her elbow that soon buried itself in my rip cage shook my entire body. "I don't see you for a month and this is how you welcome me?"
"Well you don't sneak up on me you bitch." She pulled me up right and pulled me into a tight hug. I hugged her back realising just how much I missed her and how much her stomach has grown in only a month.
"Naw look who's getting fat." I said like I was talking to a baby "What are you three, four months now?"
"Four and trust me I am not happy about it. I can't fit into this dress and it's so pretty." She complained.
"You can fit into a dress, just maybe not a skin tight skimpy dress; try something a little more flary."
"Fine." She moved the dress aside and we both started looking through the racks.
I picked up a few dresses and walked into the change rooms to try them on. The first was an interesting design, the bodice of the dress was cream coloured and outlined black with black lace trimmings around the edge, the top of the dress had both a halter neck and straps which I found oddly nice, the bottom of the dress was a thin see through material that ran down to my ankles with a slit at the side and black shorts underneath that sat mid-high thigh. I tried the dress on doing a little twirl in the mirror and taking a photo so that I could compare it to the others. The next dress I tried on was a black dress that faded to a deep blue at the bottom; this one also had a slit at the side and blue rhinestones under the left breasts and down the left side of my waist.
I took a photo of the dress and quickly changed back into my clothes. I was a little unsure of which one to get. I leaned against the wall and waited for Julie to come out. She walked out of the change rooms in a gorgeous light pink dress, it hugged her breasts and came in a little for her waist giving it shape but quickly flared out before her small baby bump was noticed.
"Wow."
"I know right. This one is the only one that didn't make me look like a fat pig."
I laughed and decided to get her opinion on which dress I should buy. I showed her the pictures and then the dresses – still hanging up on the change room wall. She looked thoughtful for a moment and then grabbed both before heading to the checkouts with her own dress in tow.
"What they hell are you doing you psycho..." I started but she quickly shut me down.
"It was your birthday two weeks ago."
"Yeah but you bought me a dress." I said totally confused.
"Yes I did, but Jordan and Thomas haven't so consider this from them." She said giving a card to the lady at the checkouts.
"Uh but they... you can't just buy me two dresses and tell me there from the boys." I tried to reason with her.
"Actually this does." She smiled and waved the black card in my face.
"You have a new credit card."
"Yep. That asshole is making me buy everything using his money and your precious Jordan helped him freeze all of my accounts and assets so that if I want anything it's with this baby."
"Ah I see." I smiled and let her buy me the dresses.
She grabbed the bag with the three dresses and passed it to me for holding. "Yep and as for which one to wear, I'd go with the black and blue dress. It makes your boobs looks bigger – not that you need any help but you know it couldn't hurt." She smiled and shrugged.
We walked over to the other side of the street and decided it was time for lunch. We sat outside enjoying the cool breeze, enjoying the fresh air and flicked through our menus trying to decided what to eat. "Want to go halves on a pizza?" I suggested.
"Halves? It better be a big bloody pizza, I'm starved."
I giggled and shook my head at her and called over a waiter to order.
"So how is staying with Matt?" Julie asked, looking intently at me.
"Fine, but I hate to tell you, you ani't getting that Xbox back."
"Thomas can get me one." She tapped her purse on the table.
"I'm surprised how well you're taking that." She was usually the girl who wouldn't let anyone pay for anything, she had worked so hard for what she had and there was no way Julie would have naturally gone along with this.
"Well I was pissed and refused to use the card but then they froze all of my accounts and I thought that if they were going to be bitches about it, I was going to make them regret it."
"That's my girl. Have you killed Thomas yet, everything has been quite on that front."
"Yeah he's alive." She seemed almost disappointed with the news.
"Good girl." I praised her
"Hey why are you saved as 'The toast monster' in his phone?"
I rolled my eyes and giggled. "Right well I guess that's what I get for eating his toast."
"Good girl." It was her turn to praise me.
The waiter bought over our pizza and two plates and Julie wasted no time and dug in. We ate our food and made general conversation before going our separate ways. I made it home in record timing and dragged the bag with the two dresses in it and put them in the wardrobe. The engagement party was tonight and I knew that three hours before the event was a little late to be dress shopping but Julie wanted to wait for me and I had been busy unpacking. I pulled the tux for Matt out of the bag from the dry cleaners and called out for him hoping that he could hear me over the loud sounds of Mario Cart.
Matty walked into the room with a scornful look on his face and his hands in his pockets. I walked over to him and handed him the tux that I had freshly wash and dry-cleaned. "So, let me get this straight, I come here and find out that my baby sister is pregnant and getting engaged and I haven't even met this bastard."
"Be nice Matty." I gave him a warning look. The last thing Julie needs is Thomas and Matt going at it during her engagement party.
"Fine. Who is he?"
"Thomas Wilder, he seems okay, comes form a great family."
"Yeah but what I want to know is how he treats my sister." He said defensively, taking the tux from me and turning it over in his hands, feeling the fabric.
"I'm sure he treats her fine" I said although I wasn't too convinced myself. Thomas would never hurt her but their agreement that I only knew briefly about left me a little unsettled.
"He better or else his face will meet my fists." He said like any good brother would.
"Would you ever know your sister to be mistreated by anyone or taken advantage of?" I tried to reason with him.
"No she would kill them before that."
"Exactly now put on the suit, we're going to be late." I smiled and turned around, shooing him out of the room and getting ready myself.
I started up my curling iron and added in some lose curls to my already wavy hair and putting a blue rhinestone burette in my hair to keep my fringe out of my eyes. I put some light make up on, a little bit of foundation to smooth out my slightly blotchy cheeks, mascara and eye liner to make my eyes stand out and light shade of lip gloss.
I put on my nude coloured lace underwear and slide on the dress before slipping on my black heels that added some good well needed height to my shortness.
"Matty, are you ready yet?" I called out as I fixed my hair.
"Well don't you clean up nice?" He said coming into the mirror reflection.
I giggled and turned to look at him. "So do you."
It was true, Mat was handsome by all means and seeing him now after a long time I could see that age looked good on him. He was in his late twenties now and it suited him better, he seemed a lot more filled out and the light stubble along his jaw line defiantly worked for him.
"Ready?" I asked grabbing my jacket and bag and walking over to the door.
"Yep."
"Remember, be nice." I warned and opened the door.
"Yep."
I smiled and got into the car passenger seat allowing Matty to drive.
