23: Chicken, Teasing and Tingles

How in the hell did I miss this house?

It was beautiful and I was almost tempted to just kill everyone inside and keep it. It had an old vintage look with light red bricks that looked like they had been standing for centuries in the harsh climates with bright green vines flush with leaves and even a white flower growing up the walls – covering most of the first story so that the dark heavy wooden door looked like it was in the only thing hidden in the vines.

We approached the large steps that led to the door and I felt myself begin to slow down and get nervous. Jordan was still walking when he reached the door and went to open it but his hand dropped just before he reached the door knob. He looked back at me and must have sensed my distress because soon he was back down at my side, gently lacing his fingers with mine and leading me up the steps.

He reached out for the golden door knob and slowly pushed the door open using most of his force and nudging it with his shoulder before dragging me through. I was surprised to see the home look so comfortable, modern and warm but it did, the inside made me seriously consider my earlier thoughts about stealing their house. I was in awe. In front of us was a long hallway that leads to the kitchen – at least that's what I think it was – just off to the left was a staircase that curved slightly. To my left there was the lounge room, there was a large flat screen that shined like a mirror mounted to the wall, beneath it was a large stereo system and just off that was a large black couch that reminded me of the one in Jordan's apartment – it's oval shape encircled a circular island foot rest that could serve almost as a bed.

On the other side of the room was a large open fire place that looked rather inviting and I soon left like a cat wanting to curl up next to it. I looked over to my right and saw an extremely large dining table that could seat at least twelve people – I saw Julie and another women setting the table, placing plates and bowls around each seat.

My eyes flickered over to Jordan and I noticed he was watching me with a soft smile on his lips.

"What?" I whispered. Wait, why was I whispering?

"Nothing." He led me into the dining room and it was only then that I noticed my hand was still in his – damn I really need to get that hand back under control before it does something I may regret, although regret maybe a little too far.

Julie turned around and beamed at me, quickly setting the plates down she ran over to me and embarrassed me in a bone crushing hug. "I am so glad you're here. Thank you." She whispered in my ear. I watched Jordan over her shoulder walk up to the other lady and give her a quick hug. She was older in about her late sixties – maybe even early seventies – but from her acute features and sparkling eyes that resembled Jordan's you could tell she really was quiet stunning back in her day.

Julie released me from the hug and walked me over to stand next to Jordan – just in front of the older lady.

"Mia this is my aunt Jodie, Jodie this is Mia." He introduced us.

I smiled at Jodie and stuck out my hand shaking her hand firmly. "Nice to meet you." I smiled.

"You too Mia."

"Where's Thomas?" Jordan asked interrupting the slightly awkward meeting.

"I killed him and buried his body out the back next to a very ugly looking tree." Julie said with a smile earning a chuckle from Jodie.

"The fact that I wouldn't put it past you scares me a little." Jordan said looking down at Julie who seemed quite pleased with her comment.

"His helping your mother with dinner." Jodie quickly said before Julie could reply, probably with a suggestion that Jordan should join his brother in his ugly tree grave.

He nodded and then grabbed my hand again and dragging me through a door and into the kitchen while Julie and Jodie continued to set the table. The kitchen was amazing, dark timbered cupboards and white tiled floors with white marble bench tops and stainless steel appliances. We walked closer to the counter tops and I saw a women roughly in her fifties, she had bright red hair that showed no signs of fading to grey and dark almost black eyes with a wide smile. Thomas stood next to her steering what looked like gravy although he looked like he was doing more eating then steering.

"Tom, stop eating my gravy!" Jordan scolded his brother as he walked further into the kitchen dragging me behind him. He dropped my hand as we reached his mother and brother and then proceeded to push Thomas out of the way and take his place eating the gravy. I smiled and tried to stifle a giggle at the two.

"Hey I'm older so I should be the one eating the gravy!" Tom said struggling to get the spoon.

Thomas was older? No way. I had picked Jordan for the older twin.

"Yeah by an hour, it doesn't count!"

"Like hell it doesn't."

"Hi you must be Mia." Their mother said stepping up to me and shaking my hand. "I'm Jane."

"Hi." I started a little unsure of what to say to her but thankfully I really didn't have to think.

"The next one to have another taste of the gravy won't get any tonight." She warned the boys and they both dropped the spoon back in the pot and stepped away like it was a poisonous snake.

"Yeah that's what I thought." Jane muttered and went back to serving up the food with my help because the boys were still trying to steal food.

We were just finishing up with the cooking, I was putting the food in dishes for serving, Julie was stealing bits of chicken off of the plate while we chatted away with Jane and Jodie. The boys however were kicked out side for being rodents and were made to watch as Julie temptingly ate the food in front of them as if she were teasing a dog. The sound of the door shutting made us all turn around just as an older gentlemen walked in, he seemed about the same age a Jane, his dark hair was greying slightly at the side and I recognised the same eyes that I have been looking at all day. He must be their father.

He walked in and at first I was a little scared, he looked like he was going to drag me away and lock my in jail if I said the wrong thing. He walked over and kissed Jodie who was too similar in looks to be anything other than his sister before walking over to Jane – his eyes lighting up as he leaned in for a kiss.

"And who are these lovely ladies?" He asked turning to Julie and I who both seemed to be cowering were we stood – or in Julie's case sitting.

"This is Julie and Mia. Girls this is my husband Tyson." Jane introduced us.

"Hi." We both muttered while he eyed us. He gave me a curt nod and then focused on Julie and doing the same to her. His gaze flickered between us and I guessed he was probably trying to figure which one of us was carrying is unborn grandchild. At that moment I felt like holding up a sign say 'There is no bun in this oven, try the next' but sadly I had no paper.

"Why are you boys locked out side?" He asked slightly amused.

"They were eating the gravy and then the food." Jane rolled her eyes and moved back to putting the final touches to the food.

"It's a shame" Julie started picking up another piece of chicken and putting in her mouth. "Because it is so good and they are really missing out." She smiled at the boys and waved before licking her fingers. Jordan was now leaning back against the railing of the porch, slightly annoyed but also slightly amused, his twin of the other hand looked like he was about to shove his hand down Julie's throat and grab the chicken before it had time to be digested.

Tyson chuckled and walked over to the two of us and handed us one of the dishes. "Come girls, you two should plate up before that door opens."

We followed him into the dining room and placed the dishes on the table before sitting down. Julie and I sat opposite each other so that we didn't have to stare awkwardly at someone else as we ate. Tyson sat at the head of the table with Jodie and Jane on either side of him, leaving space next to them for the boys. We all dished up our plates while the boys were still outside. It looked amazing, marinated in red wine and herbs the roast lamb looked and smelt amazing while the roast chicken and potatoes looked just as good. Pouring the gravy over my food, I licked my fingers and almost moaned at how good that tastes – no wonder they were fighting for that, I could drink that stuff.

Once everyone was plated Tyson went out and opened the door. We could hear the boys – mainly Thomas – complaining to their father as they walked in and sat in their seats, Thomas next to Julie – much to her dismay – and Jordan next to me.

Dinner seemed to flow nicely, the food was great and the conversation was just as tasteful. I was listening intently to Tyson lecturing Thomas on being a gentlemen and nice to Julie after she had dobbed him in for being an 'un-empathetic ass' as she put it, but what got me was Jane's reaction which was choking on her wine.

"Yeah, because you're the one that should be lecturing him on that." She smiled and Jodie started giggling. I was officially lost in this conversation.

Julie turned to me and gave me a confused look while Thomas smirked at her and gave her a wink as if to say 'Yeah that's right I dodge that bullet'.

I felt a warm touch of skin brush against my bare leg making me jump a little but not too much to be noticed. I looked down and saw Jordan's hand running from my heel up my bare leg, slowly sending tingles all over my body and making my stomach do back flips as the familiar pull and pressure in my stomach began to create an ache in me, a need. His hands came to a stop at my mid thigh where he had pulled my skirt up a little, but thankfully he left it there and sat back up straight.

His mother gave him a confused look; he smiled and raised his hand. "I dropped a piece of chicken" He smiled and flashed me a wink that no one else seemed to see but me.

I bite my lip and pushed my thighs together trying to stop the wetness building up. This was such a bad idea.

We finished up with dinner and the boys were in charge of doing the washing up while Jane and Jodie showed us the rooms.

"So there's only two guests rooms and Jodie has already claimed one so is it ok if you girls share?"

"Yeah sure." I quickly said waving off the question.

"What if we weren't?" Julie said just after me. Oh my god Julie you don't ask that question!

"Then there's always the couch." Jane giggled as she stared at Julie.

"Right. Sharing's good." She beamed at the two older ladies making them laugh. I think Julie was quickly growing on them which is a good thing. She was going to fit in nicely with this family.

They took us over to the room and left us to get unpack and settled. The room was big enough for the both of us with a small bathroom and walk in robe and large double bed that would make sleeping with Ms I hog the bed Julie a breeze. She hogged the bed and I stole the pillows so when forced to share a bed we weren't compatible.

I opened my bag and decided to just live out of it for the next couple of days while Julie looked like she was moving in. "So they all seem pretty nice, and they like you." I started up the conversation unable to handle the quite any longer.

"Yeah they're great, now if only I could get rid of Thomas then it'd all be perfect."

I laughed and turned to watch her as she put her things in the wardrobe. "What happened to giving him a chance?"

"I have been. I give him an inch and he tugs a meter."

"I'm sure it will get easier." I tried to reassure her although I wasn't entirely convinced. I hadn't really had the opportunity to talk with Thomas much and I was sure to make it my mission to at least have an idea before I went home, that way I knew whether to help him out with Julie or to crush him like an ant.

"Yeah, maybe." She muttered although she wasn't too convinced herself.

"So everyone is okay with the whole... situation." Was that what I called this predicament?

She chuckled "Yeah, apparently Jane and Tyson had a similar start but we were interrupted before she said anything else."

"And now they are the picture of happiness."

"Yeah but they worked at it. I don't know if I care that much." Typical Julie.

"You've turned down the proposition though?"

"I keep saying no but he hasn't taken it for an answer." Her voice sounded tired and I wondered for a moment if she had been sleeping properly.

"Are you going to tell me what it was about?"

"Just stuff like moving in together and other... things." She didn't seem too happy with what the 'other things' were.

"Well I trust that you'll make the best decision." I said walking over to her and placing my hand on her shoulder and giving it a small squeeze as if trying to reassure her.

"I'm still trying to decide what the best decision is."

"Well I know what will help."

"What?" She looked at me intently as if I held all the answers to her problems, and I did.

"Sleep. Off you go." I tried to shove her over to the bed while her face just dropped.

"But I'm not tired." She whined.

"Julie. See this face?" I pointed to my face while she eyed me suspiciously.

"Yeah?"

"Does it look like it cares?" I looked at her sarcastically.

"It will when I stab it!" she said viciously through clenched teeth.

"You get very violent when you're sleepy. Get some sleep Jules."

She crossed her arms over her chest and pouted at me. "What are you going to do?"

"I'm going to kill a particular Wilder for dropping his chicken." I told her and left the room before she could question me further.

I smiled and made my way down stairs.

Oh Jordan!
