16: Hard Tensions
I got home and Jordan helped my unload all of my bags, carting them up stairs and placing them in my apartment before bidding me goodbye after I gave him a long lecture about keeping to the speed limits.
I put everything away, hiding them in the back of the cupboards that Broody doesn't open or rarely goes into and decided to make a start on dinner. Pulling out the chicken fillets I decided to crumb them and make a salad with a cream sauce. I pulled out the hormone replacements and turned them over in my hands. I knew they can take a while to work so I best do it now. I wasn't sure if crushing up the tablets and putting them in his food was going to work but I would try anyways. If it works for dogs then it's bound to work for Broody.
Pouring out two tablets I crushed it with the edge of the blade and then separating the sauce. Pouring my half over my chicken and salad I mixed the tablets in with the remainder of the sauce and poured it over his plate.
Just as I was finishing up the dinner my phone started ringing interrupting my moment of feministic power. Pulling out my phone I glanced at the caller id and bought it to my ear.
"Hello?" I asked into the phone.
"Hey kiddo, you breathing and staying away from drugs?" John's voice rang out with his usual one line greeting.
"Yes and yes." I chuckled and leaned in against the kitchen counter, my fingers tracing the pattern in the bench top.
"Good. I'm glad to hear it."
"So what's up John?" I asked him wondering why he called although I suspected it was for his check up every few weeks.
"Nothing much, just checking up on you. How is everything?"
"Good. Works been busy as always and I think Rose is trying to get me fired." I raised an eyebrow and pouted even though he couldn't see me.
"She sounds like a real piece of work. What are you working on now?" He asked sounding purely interested as he always is. John always supported my decisions and my job even if I was making the wrong ones.
"A restaurant that is going to be opening up, we going to renovate the old building, it's going to amazing." I said with all my pride.
"Well with you working on it, I'm sure it will be. How about that fiancé of yours? and Julie?"
"Julie is" Great? Fine? Misunderstood? Crazy? "Julie is Julie." I figured that answer was self-explanatory.
"And Broody?" He pressed probably picking up on my hesitation.
Do I tell him? John and Broody don't talk so I had no doubts that he would tell him - not that he would even think about doing such a thing - but I still didn't know.
"Broody's fine." I finally said.
"Is everything okay on that front?"
"Not really but I kind of don't really want to talk about it right now." I didn't want to lie to him but I didn't want to speak about it now, not after I have already explained it once today.
"I understand, but when you're ready I'm only a phone call away."
"Thanks John. What's been going on with you, it's been a little over a month since I've heard from you?"
"Well." He started and I could tell from his happy tone that life was treating him well. "I've been great, my investments are all doing well and the garage is up and running so I am enjoying early retirement." He told me. I was glad he was doing well. John's early retirement as he calls it was the result of the company that he worked for shutting down and laying off all of its workers, forcing him to be unemployed at forty-five. He took the payout money and invested it with plans of opening up his own garage and working from there and now five years later he had finally done it.
"I'm glad to hear it. I should come up and visit, that way I can checkout it out."
"Yes that would be great, especially when I have someone I want you to meet."
"Oh." I wasn't sure how to react. I didn't really care if John had been seeing anyone because I was well aware that he was entitled to find happiness and I wanted that for him. He had only been twenty-seven when my mother - who was thirty-four at the time - had married him only to leave him with a teenager he never knew.
"She's great Mia you'll really like her."
"I'm sure I will." I said although I wasn't yet convinced.
"Well when you get a chance I think your long overdue for a visit Mia, I can't wait to introduce her to my daughter."
I smiled at him call me his daughter. He had done it a couple of times but never in front of me because when he first did it I broke down remembering that I had a father and he wasn't him. But now, now I was ok with it, it made me feel like I had that unconditional love that only parents can give.
Just as I was about to respond Broody walked in catching me off guard. I nodded and smiled at him before focusing back on the conversation. "I got to go. Bye dad." It felt good to say.
"Bye kiddo." He said and I hung up, blinking a couple of times before I started to cry like a mad woman.
"Who was that on the phone?" Broody asked as he took off his tie and kicked off his shoes.
"John."
"You calling him dad now?"
"Yes I am." I smiled and Broody came up behind me, kissing my shoulder. Coming back to the now I looked down at the dinner and my smile got wider. Now to end the day on a high.
"Here I made dinner." I smiled and handed him his plate. He took it with two hands and looked down at me smiling, inhaling the glorious smell of the sauce.
"Mm smells so good." He said and took it to the table while I walked around with mine. Sitting down I waited and took my time to have my first bite, watching as Broody began to stuff his face full of food, the sauce smearing on his lips. "It taste a little different, did you put something else in here?"
"Mint." I smiled hopping that was the right thing to say.
"You can taste it, so good." He said and stuffed his face even more. I smiled and started digging into my own food.
You have no idea how good it is.

"So you gave him the tablets then?" Jordan asked as he flipped through his paper work. I smiled and leaned back in the guest armchair, my hands behind my head as I relaxed.
"Yep." I said popping the p. I had given them to him last night in his dinner; I had put them in his breakfast and lunch - three times a day it had said for fast action. I hadn't noticed any changes and probably wouldn't for a week or two but when it did I hoped it would be worth the wait.
"Good. So what's next?"
"Well I was thinking about doing number eight now but I'm not too sure." I said trailing off and blabbering a little.
"No I meant with the building." Jordan said catching my attention and dragging my attention back to him. Yes work, why do I keep forgetting about that?
"I have organized with your builder to go over the building and see what walls need to be taken down and what just needs to be re-plastered; he has the okay to go ahead with everything." I shrugged. I bet he thought I wasn't worth a dime he had spent on my services.
"I must say I'm impressed Ms Sears." He smiled leaning back in his chair and interlocking his fingers, laying them on his thighs.
"You get what you pay for Mr Wilder." I smiled at him.
"So, now back to the Rat Extermination, my lawyers are almost done drawing up the agreement for the apartment."
"Oh right. How is that going to work anyways, the mortgage is in both our names?"
"It's going to be a payout. All you need to do is focus on the set figure and pay it off as quickly as you can. Broody will have the same but once you've given your share your name comes off the mortgage." He explained.
"But how did you get the bank to go for that?" I asked thinking about how ruthless they can be when it comes to getting their money.
"I have connections. You just worry about getting your payments in and starting a new life." He told me handing me a piece of paper that gave me more detailed information.
"Thank you." I said in all seriousness, fighting the urge to give him a hug.
"You're welcome, now back to planning my entertainment for today." He smiled and gestured me to go on.
"Right well I was thinking number eight."
"Is that one where you're going to make him get caught..." he started.
"Yep." I interrupted him and bounced to my feet, walking around the chair and headed for the door.
Jordan was fast to get up off his chair and grab my arm, stopping me. "I don't like this one."
"Neither will Broody, that's the point." I gave him a slightly confused look. He knew it was on my list, he has seen it and never objected before so why now?
I went to walk off again but he stopped me and pulled me back.
"Give me five minutes." I said before turning around and going to walk off.
Jordan grabbed hold of my arm and yanked me back until I crushed against his chest. "One."
"Four." I tried to bargain. If I rushed my plan then even Broody would get suspicious.
"One." He repeated more forcefully this time.
"Four minutes Jordan; I can't do it in a minute." I told him, my face pleading with his stern and serious expression.
"Two." He went up. Now we're getting somewhere.
"Okay let me explain this to you in a way you'll understand." I smiled up at him seductively which only earned me a surprised and slightly confused look. I ran my hand down his white button down shirt - my finger playing with the buttons, teasingly as I went.
When I got down to his hard stomach I pushed him back forcefully until he was sitting down in his office chair before sitting myself down on his lap. I looked up into his eyes and watched the colour darken to an almost black obsidian green which only fuelled my little tease. I licked my lips slowly and ran my hands over his body enjoying the feel of his muscles tensing at my touch. I slowly leaned in to him, pushing my body up against him and placed a small lingering kiss on his cheek and then moving so that my lips were right next to his ear.
"It's been two and half minutes." I whispered seductively before pulling back and giggling.
His eyes closed and I saw his jaw clench. Deciding I had made my point I stood up and walked over to the door, opening it up and walking out. While waiting for the elevator Jordan came up beside me, looking rather annoyed. "Four, trust me you won't need the five." He said in that dark sinister tone that sent a thrill through my body.
The elevator rose up and we both walked in, riding it in silence but the thick tension in the air could be hacked at with an axe.
The doors opened up on the floor and I didn't wait, I couldn't be in there anymore without doing something I may regret. I speed walked through the room, ignore the looks until I got to Broody's desk. I didn't care for being discreet this time as I swung around the corner of his cubical and sat on his lap like I had just done moments ago to Jordan - although that was ten times more comfortable. I reached up and looped my arms around his neck and kissed his cheek.
"Well hello there." He chuckled but I could hear the surprise in his voice - probably expecting something else.
"Hi." I kissed his cheek again.
"To what do I owe this pleasure?"
"I was just having a meeting with your boss and thought I would come and see you."
"That's nice of you." He smiled and kissed me back.
"And then I thought that maybe we could make some use of one of these rooms." I gestured around us at the conference rooms.
He chuckled and nuzzled his head in my neck. "What's gotten into you?"
"More like what hasn't gotten into me. It's been a while and I'm a little" I paused and twirled my hair around my finger. "Frustrated." I smiled. It certainly wasn't a lie, I was frustrated and with what happened up stairs I was even more so.
"Well then we can't have that now can we." He smiled and helped me up off his lap before taking me over to one of the conference rooms. Broody opened the door for me and I looked up at him, my gaze drift to just over his shoulder were it was caught by Jordan, waiting. I smiled and he glanced down at his watch; I got the message.
Your time starts now.
