Ch:4 Besties, right?

I took up my lunch box, next day in cafeteria. It was a pretty good hang out spot, lots of space to move around. It was just the food that sucked here.

A highschool cafeteria lunch, if that doesn't sound cliche, I don't what does.
Whenever I enter one, a part of my brain almost expects to students to break into choreographed dance numbers or someone to start a food fight. But sadly, that actually never happens, why the fuck do movies had to bring my hopes up?

I strutted towards a table which was unoccupied, save from a certain green eyed guy. He was just sitting there, not eating anything. I didn't say anything in greeting as I sat down across him, wanting him to address the elephant in the room.

"Um...why are you sitting here?" He asked me looking perplexed.

"I am sorry, last time I checked it was a free country. Man, I miss those days." I said, licking my lips as I opened my lunch. His lips twitched and he gazed at me patiently.

"You're so not funny." He said, eying my fries.

"Denial, it must have been nice to live trying to believe a lie." I said, munching a fry drenched in tomato sauce.

This time he didn't even try to hide his laugh, small quiet chuckles filled our lonely little table. He should do it more often, it helps to brighten up the surrounding.

I smiled, pushing my lunch in front of him. He looked at it for a while with a confused expression.

"No, thank you. I am not hungry." He said, shaking his head a little bit.

"Take it, I am sharing my fries. Now, that doesn't happen much." I said.

"Then why start now?" He asked, his gaze still going back and forth between my face and fries. This guy here is hungry, no matter what he says.

"Oh, I just want something in return." I said, sipping water and resisting the maddening urge to tug on my jacket's sleeves. Man that sounded a line straight out of any cringe worthy action movie.

"What is it?" He asked, now fully focused on me.

I grimaced, I can't believe I am doing this.

"Do you... Do you want to be my best friend?" I asked, knowing well what the answer is going to be.

He seemed surprised, "What? Why?"

Well, of course. Here you are defying every law about friendship and he doesn't have the right to be surprised? My consciousness mocked me.

I shrugged, "I asked if you want to be my best friend, because I genuinely want to be your friend and I thought this was the most direct way. I do care about the answer, so think about it."

I smiled faintly at him before getting up and shifting my bag on my right arm. He was still speechless and most likely trying to find a way to slap me in face with truth.

"Wait, your lunch!" He shouted after me on my way out.

"Eat it! I am the one who is not hungry!" I smirked his way before walking towards my locker.

My smirk slipped as soon as I reached it.

Now that shit was scary. There are only two times I faced a rejection and I don't want to face another one. Even if it means running away.

"Hey Nora!" I turned around to see Silver walking towards me.

Of all the times today, now life is deciding to become a bitch? But of course.

"What?" I said, not bothering to keep a polite tone. Why did I even bothered to reply?

He smirked, like he was expecting me to snap at him.

"You're a slut you know that right? Yesterday you was talking to me and now you want to get into James pants? I saw you two in lunch. Let me tell you something, he isn't interested in a whore like you." He said.

Wow, just wow. The urge to facepalm  myself heightened.

I breathed deeply, I didn't wanted to create a scene. I have done enough for the month and I am still new. I don't want to repeat the events of my last high school.

Shit, it isn't working. I tried to count till ten, but words flew out of my mouth before numbers could.

"Shut up bro, otherwise I am don't know what I might do. I don't want to pick up a fight so fucking back off before I lose control." I snarled in his face, my hands clenching tightly so that I won't do something I am going to regret.

"Bit-" He opens his mouth but a fist punched him on jaw.

I turned my head to see James standing there, with a rigid body stance. His eyes radiating cold fury mixed with a slightest hint of fear.

"Silver, the only reason you are out of jail is because I haven't filed a complain. Don't make me regret it even more. I have plenty of shit on you, so bait me." He said, looking at Silver with narrowed eyes, like darling him to say anything else.

Silver was still nursing his sore jaw, which was turning a purple shade. He glared at us with so much hatred that I almost flinched. Almost.

"Fagot and the bitch." He muttered pettily before turning back and walking away. I hate the words, next time I run into him, he better watch out.

I glanced at James, a lot of questions running through my head, but I settled for the shortest one.

"Why?"

He scratched his neck looking faintly embarrassed, before mumbling, "That's what best friends do, eh?"

I was still trying to understand the simple sentence spoken by him when he turned in his spot, walking away, his hands buried deep in his pockets.

Where do he think he is going?

I grabbed his brown leather jacket and pulled him towards me. He gave a annoyed stare as I tried to form a sentence.

"Y-you mean it?" I asked finally. My eyes would have been probably wide, as I looked at him like he is cray-cray.

He snorted, "I don't know, maybe punching the guy wasn't enough."

I smiled, ignoring his comment, "You're never going to regret this. Besties, right?"

"Yeah sure. Besties." He smiled uneasily.

"Let's go eat." I started walking in the direction of cafeteria.

"Okay." He said, burying his hands again in his pockets.

"Last question though, why the sudden change in heart? You looked pretty uncomfortable back there." I asked punching his shoulder lightly.

He chuckled, "Well, I did eat up your fries, so I figured I automatically signed the contract. It was an unbreakable vow, you know?"

I stopped, "You didn't. All of them?"

"Yup, I want to kiss the hands of the cook, however cheesy that sounds. They were pretty good." He said, stopping with me.

"First day of being best friends and you eat my food. What I have got myself into?" I groaned, unzipping my leather as the temperature was getting warm. Stuffing them in my bag, I tied my hair in a lose ponytail so that it would not stick to my neck. The long hair was tough to maintain.

He laughed quietly, "Something you forget, I am the bad cop in this friendship."

I smirked, "Oh yeah? Then maybe I should up my game. I am so going to make you eat your words."

He smiled and hummed slightly.

Best friends, huh? Yeah, my life is going to a lot more interesting.

A smile settled on my lips as I walked towards the snack counter along with my best friend.

A/N: Result of endless rewrites, blood and tears. I am still not fully satisfied with this. But I swear I am trying my hardest.
