ANA

Thunderous applause exploded in the auditorium after I finished my presentation, putting a broad smile on my face. It was the National Conference that was being held in my college and I was given an opportunity to give a presentation, which I had just finished. I could see my friends cheering for me, at the back. I made my way to the back of the stage and got out of the auditorium and took a deep breath. I was still running on adrenaline and tried to calm myself.

I felt a pair of arms around me and Diya said, "You were amazing."

She pushed me into another set of familiar arms, Afreen said, "Wow. Yay, you did it."

I smiled at the  both of them.

"Let's go have lunch. I'm starving." Diya said.

I was nervous due to my presentation and had refused to have lunch before that. To keep me company, Afreen and Diya had decided to have lunch with me.

"I need to talk to you about something." Diya said, seriously.

"Okay. Tell me." I said.

I saw both of them exchange glances and tensed up. I knew what they wanted to talk to me about. It has been almost two months since,  I saw that paper clipping. I was trying very hard not to think about him and failing miserably. I shut them down whenever they brought him up. It was too painful. My first love, The first boy I ever trusted, shattered me into millions of pieces. I was still picking them up and didn't need to break some more. The food in my mouth tasted like sawdust and I wasn't hungry anymore. I pushed my plate away and said, "I don't want to talk about him."

"Just hear us out this time. Its not what you think. If,  whatever I have to say doesn't change your mind, then, I'll drop the subject forever." Diya, pleaded.

I nodded, "Just this once and after that you won't bug me anymore."

They both nodded. After lunch we went to the canteen for some privacy. All the students were in the auditorium making the canteen empty and giving us an ideal place to talk.

Diya took a deep breath and said, " Dev had asked me to meet him after they came back from Delhi and he said...."

She told me everything that he had told her and I was shocked. I looked at Afreen to see that she wasn't surprised, meaning that Diya had told her, already.

"You are telling me all this now. Its almost two months late." I accused her.

"I tried to tell you. You always shut me down whenever I brought him up." Diya said.

I sighed, "Why today then?"

Diya exchanged a glance with Afreen and I narrowed my eyes at them.

"Look, don't get mad at me. I spoke to Abhi and I asked him to give you some space. He had agreed to that like a month ago. He is getting impatient and to tell the truth, he's taking it really bad. You need to talk to him, atleast for his sanity.  If, you don't want to be with him, then stop leading him on and make that clear to him. So that he can move on with his life." Diya said, harshly.

Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes and I looked away.  I need answers myself. The thought of him moving on with someone else hurt me. I do have feelings for him. He lied  about his identity.  How can I trust him now?

I looked at my friends and Diya's eyes softened when they landed on my tear filled ones.

"I don't know what to do?" I whispered to them.

"Meet him once. Talk it out." Afreen said, softly.

I nodded. They smiled at me.

My heart was beating  so hard that I was worried the whole block could hear it.

Diya and I were standing outside Dev and Abhi's home. If I was not in my current state of distress, my jaw would have dropped looking at the beautiful duplex in front of me. This was the first time I was here and my mind was registering it subconsciously as I was worried about seeing him. After I had agreed to meet Abhi, Diya had immediately called up Dev to inform him and one thing led to another and now had landed us on their doorstep.

The door opened to reveal a grinning Dev. He welcomed us in and shot a strained smile at me. I couldn't blame him for that.  I smiled back shyly and stepped inside. My mind barely had time to register the living room or the stairs leading upstairs when my eyes landed on him.

He looked handsome as ever, but I could easily see he had lost weight and the dark circles under his eyes were prominent. Did I do that to him? Was I the reason to make him look so defeated?

He made a move towards me as if to hug me and involuntarily my feet moved me back. Hurt flashed in his eyes.

He rubbed his hands over his face and looked at me and asked, "Can we talk?"

I nodded. He walked up to me, his gaze never leaving my face and mine,  his. It had been almost two months and we were both greedily drinking each other in. I all but forgot that Dev and Diya were here too. He stopped right in front of me and extended his hand forward. I looked at it and then at him, trying to figure out what was running in his head. I needed answers and I hated to admit that I needed him too. I took a deep breath and placed my hand in his.
