Chapter 2- Five Years Later

-5 years later-

“Happy birthday” Chase sang as he walked in my room. "You look like a beautiful 14 year old today."

“Thank you.” I smiled. I noticed Chase was hiding something behind his back as he got closer. “I thought I told you not to get me anything.”

“Now how do you know I got you something?” He smirked.

“Because it’s obvious you’re hiding something behind your back.” I said.

“I never could keep anything from you.” Chase pulled a box out from behind his back with a red ribbon around it and handed it to me.

“Nope never could.” I laughed.

I slowly pulled the ribbon off the box and opened the box. Inside the box lay a note. I picked it up and read it.

Ashlyn,

I love you. You are the best friend a guy could ask for. Thank you so much for coming into my life. Happy Birthday! I hope you like the gift. When I saw it I thought of you.

I moved the note out of my way to examine the gift Chase had gotten me. A beautiful heart shaped locket lay under the note. It was beautiful with all its swirls and designs on it. I can’t believe Chase picked out something so beautiful for me.

“Open it.” He smiled.

I pulled the necklace from the box before opening it. I almost cried when I seen the pictures inside. They were of me and Chase in the fourth grade. I had my awful frizzy hair and braces and Chase was his usual cute self with dimples. Tears started coming from my eyes as I remember the first day we met. I am so happy that I met Chase that day. I couldn’t ask for a better friend.

I got up and hugged Chase immediately. He smiled as he hugged me back. He held me as I cried into his shirt thanking him for the gift.

“If I had known that you were going to cry I would have picked out something else.” He Chuckled.

“No this was perfect.” I said trying to fasten the necklaces.

Chase put his arms around me and fastened the necklace for me. The close proximity was making me feel nervous. I couldn’t help but take in Chase’s overwhelming scent. I slowly backed up when I noticed what I was doing. Ok this was not normal. I don’t feel this way around Chase what’s going on? 

Chase smiled at me as I leaned back and kissed me on the cheek. I blushed major as his lips left my skin. I touched the place Chase’s lips had been with my hand. That was the first kiss on the cheek I had ever got.

Chase and I spent the rest of the day hanging out for my Birthday. We ordered in Chinese and watched the Dallas marathon on TV. It was the single best birthday I had ever had. I don’t know if was because of the locket or the kiss or just Chase but I loved it either way.
