Law

I rub my eye as I slowly stirred to the sounds of birds chirping. I sit up straight and a blanket falls off my shoulders. I look at it questionably before turning to look at Cora who was still asleep with a blanket wrapped around him as well. I look at the information we've got so far and I couldn't help grumbling. I let out a sigh and reached for another book so I could get back to work when I noticed a neat pile of books sitting across the table from me slightly to the left. I grab the piece of paper that was sitting on top of them and read it over. My eyes widen in surprise.

"What do you have their Law?" I hear Cora ask and I look over at him to see him rubbing his eyes. Without saying anything I hand the sheet over to him and I see his eyes widen when he reads it over.

"This is all information on the Amber Lead Syndrome and the writing goes onto the back of the page as well." Cora says with surprise lacing his voice.

"Yeah and it says 'I've been through all these books'. I found it on top of this pile of books." I say pointing to the pile of books which contained about twelve of them.

"I'm grateful to whoever did this and man can they ever work quick." Cora says and I nod in agreement. We barely got through ten books yesterday while they got through twelve in a couple of hours. I spot something on the table near the book pile and I pick it up.

"It's a piece of white fur." I say quietly in surprise. It must've been Bepo then but why would Bepo help us. I put the fur back on the table and Haruki walks into the room.

"Breakfast's ready;" Haruki says and we head over to the kitchen. Food has once again been placed neatly out onto the table and there was only three plates again. I sit down where I was sitting yesterday before digging right into the food. It was delicious just like the meal yesterday. After I finish eating I decide to ask Haruki a question.

"Hey Haruki where's Bepo?" I ask and Haruki finishes his mouthful of food before replying.

"He said something about making a trip into town this morning. I'm pretty sure he's already gone since I told him he could go after doing his chores and he only had two of them today." Haruki says.

"Is that a good idea? He is a talking polar bear." I say and Haruki shrugs.

"He's never had a problem with it." Haruki says.

"Oh okay. Thanks for the meal now if you'll please excuse me." I say before getting up and heading back to the living room. I pick up a book and start reading through it.

Bepo

I slowly walked through the forest making sure I wouldn't drop my stuff. I carefully walk into the clearing and for once I walk over towards the set of stairs we have to get up to the house. I slowly ascend the stairs making sure the pile I was carrying wouldn't tip and I quickly switched the pile to one hand for a second so I could open the door. I held the door open with my foot as I transitioned the pile into both my hands again. I slowly maneuver through the doorway and I walk towards the living room. As soon as I was beside the table I gently set the pile on the floor and when I straightened up I found Law staring at me in surprise.

"I got all the medical books and anything that might possibly contain information about the Amber Lead Syndrome. We've got a pile to go through so we better get working." I say as I sit down across from him and grabbing a piece of paper. I grab a pen and book as well before getting right to work. We sit in silence for a while as we went through books writing down anything that might help.

"Why?" I hear Law ask and I look up to see him looking at me now.

"Why what?" I ask back.

"Why are you helping me?" Law asks and I tilt my head to the side thinking.

"I feel like it." I say and I see Law sweat drop.

"That isn't a real reason you know." Law says.

"Well that's my reason so deal with it." I say before diving back into the book I was reading before he spoke up. We kept researching for a couple days until one day Corazon and Haruki told us to go loosen up so we decided to go for a walk. We were now walking through the forest with no set destination.

"Wow this is beautiful." Law says when we walk into a clearing that contained a waterfall that fell into a pond below it.

"Yeah I know and it can be pretty relaxing as well." I say sitting down on the rock bed near the pond and I gestured for Law to come over as well. He slowly walks over and sits down beside me. He goes to speak but I cover his mouth with my hand. He glares at me but I just do a silent gesture as best as I could before pointing towards the pond. Law looks at the pond and I see his eyes widen when he spots multiple colours streaking through the water. The fish swim around fast at first since they sensed our presence when we first showed up. I lower my hand from Law's mouth and the fish slowly calm down. The fish go back to leisurely swimming around and since the sun was in the correct position in the sky when the light hit the fish's scales it bounced off in unique colours. Each second the colour changes due to the change in the fish's muscles and it produced a beautiful light show. We sat there in silence for a bit watching the fish when suddenly Law speaks up.

"This is relaxing." Law whispers and I nod.

"It sure is." I whisper back.

"Can I ask you a question Bepo?" Law asks and I look over at him to see that he's looking at me.

"Go ahead;" I say.

"How are you able to speak? Is it a Devil Fruit or something?" Law asks and something in my brain clicks.

"That's it. Why didn't I think of that sooner? Law you're a genius." I yell jumping up and I grab his hand before running back towards home.

"What do you mean Bepo?" Law says trying to avoid being whipped in the face as we run through the forest.

"I think I know how to cure the Amber Lead Syndrome but you won't be able to swim after that." I say with a huge smile on my face.

"Really?" Law asks and I can hear the hope in his voice.

"Yup;" I say and I quickly climb up to the house while Law runs up the stairs. I reach the house first and I run to my room ignoring the welcome Haruki and Corazon said. I burst into my room and rush over to my bookshelf. I start whipping books off of it and when I find the book I'm looking for I let out a little joyful yell. Law rushes into my room just as I plop down on my bed and open the book. He rushes up beside me and sits on my bed beside me.

"So what is it?" Law asks and I flip through the book 'til I reach the right page. When I find it I turn the book towards Law who reads the page.

"This might work since it's supposed to be able to heal any illness." I say and Law suddenly hugs me.

"Thank you Bepo even if it doesn't work it's a lead." Law says before he picks up the book and rushes out the room. I rush out of my room at the same time and follow him to the living room where Corazon and Haruki were sitting.

"Cora we have a possible cure." Law says when he walks into the room with me right behind him.

"What? Let's get to work then. What is it?" Corazon says as he jumps up only to fall flat on his back.

"It's a Devil Fruit called the Ope-Ope Fruit." Law says holding the book towards Corazon so he can see it himself.

"It'll be hard to track down if it's a Devil Fruit." Haruki says and I get depressed.

"I guess it would be." I say looking down at the floor.

"Actually I know where this one is." Corazon says and I look at him in disbelief. "Law get ready we're heading out right now. See ya around Haruki and it was nice to meet you Bepo." Corazon says.

"Goodbye Haruki; goodbye Bepo." Law says and I get depressed again.

"Goodbye;" I say with a depressed tone.

"Don't get depressed Bepo I promise to come back and see you if I get healed." Law says and I look up at him.

"Not if when and you better keep that promise." I say and Law nods. I give him a huge smile as well as a huge before him and Corazon head out. I wave bye and once they're out of sight I clean up the coffee table in the living room. I put all my books back into their correct spots and place the papers we had written on in a spot for safe keeping. When I finish I grab a book that I have yet to read and I lay down on my bed before starting to read. I get about two pages in when I get bored and I bookmark my page before I start walking around the house. I do every little job there is to be done but it still doesn't help. Getting fed up I plop down on the couch in the living room and let out a sigh.

"Miss them already?" Haruki asks and I look up to see him standing in the doorway to the kitchen.

"I just got used to having them around and stuff." I say before putting my arm across my face.

"You got pretty close to Law. I'm surprised you didn't tell him." Haruki says and I change my form.

"I prefer to keep my secrets a secret unlike someone who seemed to enjoy telling them some things." I say sending a glare at Haruki who just rolls his eyes.

"I only told them about when I found you." Haruki says.

"I figured that." I say rolling my eyes before I drifted off to sleep.

Two Years Later

Law

I walked into the clearing to see the same house from a couple years ago. I can't help the smile that rises to my face but then it falls knowing that I'm the one who'll have to deliver the bad news if they haven't heard already. I spot Bepo crouched down by the stairs swinging a hammer. How is he doing that without the hammer flying out of his paw?

"Hey Bepo;" I say walking up behind the bear. Bepo looks up at me since I was leaning over him and his eyes brighten when he sees me.

"LAW!" Bepo screams before dropping everything he had to hug me. "I told you it wasn't if but when." Bepo says and I chuckle as I return the hug.

"That's true and it's because of you. I'm alive right now because of you so thank you." I say patting the bear on his back before pulling back to look at him and I see him do the same.

"Man you've changed quite a bit in the past two years." Bepo says.

"You on the other hand have only gotten bigger." I say and we start catching up when I remember that I still have to tell them. "Hey Bepo where's Haruki? I've gotta tell you guys something." I say and I notice Bepo get depressed.

"Haruki died about a year ago." Bepo says and I hug the bear again.

"I'm sorry to hear that;" I say and Bepo pulls back to look at me.

"So what did you have to say?" Bepo asks and I look down at the ground feeling tears starting to come again.

"It's about Cora-san; ...he......he's dead." I finally say after a bit and Bepo hugs me this time.

"I'm sorry to hear that and if you need anything I'm right here for you." Bepo says and I hug him back.

"Actually I came to ask if you wanna join my crew. I'm making a pirate crew and I was hoping you'd be my first mate." I say and Bepo sends me a huge smile.

"Sure I'll join just let me grab a couple of things." Bepo says before we head up to the treehouse. Bepo quickly packs a bag and we head out towards the docks. Bepo stops and gives the treehouse on last look before turning around and never looking back again.
