I created this cover at request of the fabulous Kathleen Keenan, katkeenan, for her dystopian novel Never Go Home. Link to the story is below - go give it a read!

After dedicating five years of my PhD research to studying the ecological impacts of climate change in California's Central Valley, I was fascinated by this opportunity to envision the valley in a post-apocalyptic setting after climate change, with the iconic Mount Shasta starkly snowless in the background, and the water in Shasta Lake dwindling. 

As for the rest of the symbolism in the image, I guess you'll just have to read the book to piece it together ;)

The simplified style of this cover is inspired by the gorgeous series of National Park Posters created by the Anderson Design Group for the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service in 2016.
