Chapter 32

Sayori made it to school, immediately wrapped into Monika's arms from behind.

"Sayo! Where were you this morning? I drove over to pick you up but you weren't there!" Monika questioned with concern.

"Sorry, Moni. I was hanging out with Yuri last night. She woke me up early so I'd have time to get everything and I kinda just left for school right after." Sayori rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly.

"Its okay. You just scared me a little." Monika kissed her forehead.

"I'll see you in club, okay?" Monika whispered.

"Yeah." Sayori tilted her head as she awaited their daily parting kiss.

As Monika pulled away and began skipping to class, Sayori noticed Natsuki walking the opposite direction.

"Nat!" Sayori called, maneuvering through the crowd towards her friend.

"What?" Natsuki asked.

"Are you still mad at me..?" Sayori asked quietly.

"No... I'm not." Natsuki sighed. She really did feel bad about avoiding her.

"So... Are we good..?" Sayori asked hopefully.

"Yeah. We're good." Natsuki gave her a half smile.

Natsuki surged forward, wrapping Sayori in a side hug that only lasted a few seconds.

Natsuki pulled away, flustered and blushing.

"S-See you in club, a-airhead." Natsuki muttered.

Ugh, I can't believe I just hugged someone... In public...

Sayori giggled, happily bouncing down the halls towards her first period with a smile on her face.

Sayori slowly opened her eyes, taking note that she was much shorter than usual.

She glanced down where her hands would be, to see that her hands had been replaced with... paws?

Well this is new...

Looking around she noticed she appeared to be in the club room, though everything was smaller.

"Hey, Sayo!" she heard Natsuki's voice call as she turned to face her.

In her place, however, was a small pink kitten with magenta eyes that nuzzled briefly against Sayori.

A violet furred wolf was curled up asleep some space away, a white bird perched on her shoulder as Catsuki wandered over towards her and scared the bird away.

"Sayori!" Monika's voice came, along with a brown coated, emerald eyed fox.

"Monika?" Sayori asked, tilting her head, "Why are we animals?"

"What do you mean? We've always been!" Monika chuckled.

A mirror appeared behind them as Monika spun her around to gaze into it.

In the mirror Sayori saw a puppy, no larger than Monika's leg, with pinkish-blonde fur and sky blue eyes.

"See?" Monika smiled, which looked slightly intimidating since her teeth were now razor sharp.

Sayori's tail wagged as she barked gleefully.

Suddenly, two more foxes appeared. An arctic fox and an orange fox, greying with age.

The white fox grabbed Monika by the scruff of her neck, quickly sprinting away.

"Wait! Monika!!" Sayori cried, trying to chase after her with her short legs.

The rest of the room faded to black except for the three foxes in the distance Sayori tried desperately to reach.

"Sayori!" Monika cried back, her voice echoing as she faded away.

"Monika! MONIKA!" Sayori screamed, tears stinging her eyes.

"MONIKA!" Sayori woke in a cold sweat, panting lightly.

W-What was that? That was a weird dream...

Sayori attempted to go back to sleep, though she had a bad feeling that her dream may have held some truthful elements to it.

"Hey, Sayo!" Natsuki greeted she entered the club room a bit after Sayori, who was already seated.

She walked up and ruffled Sayori's hair, which was something she hadn't done since they were small.

Natsuki's grip tightened against Sayori's scalp slightly as she eyed Yuri talking to someone in the corner of the room.

"A-And then you cross multiply the coefficients ov..over here to-..." Yuri instructed as the boy adjusted his scarf.

"Thanks, Yuri! I understand now!" he stood, pulling up his scarf further as he gathered his books in his arms.

"I-I was my pleasure, Bartholomule. C-Could you let me know, w-whether you liked the book I loaned you by next Friday?" Yuri asked with a small smile.

He nodded before bounding out the door.

"Who was that, Yuri?" Sayori asked once he had left.

"A c-classmate of mine. H-He's a f-freshman w-who needed help in m-math." Yuri blushed, her eyes flickering over to Natsuki.

Natsuki blushed as well once their gazes met, her fists tightening at her sides.

Monika entered the room, a sullen look on her face.

"Monika, what's wrong?" Yuri asked, being the first to see.

"I-It's... It's my parents.. They... They want me to... To go to a..." Monika trailed off, swallowing the lump forming in her throat.

"To do what..?" Sayori questioned softly, a gnawing feeling growing inside of her.

"They're... S-Sending me to... To a conversion camp..." Monika burst, leaning into Sayori as she began sobbing violently.

"How could they do this to you?" Yuri asked, pain evident in her voice.

"I-I don't... Don't know!" Monika choked out, clutching Sayori tightly.

My dream is... Coming true...

"Moni..." Sayori whispered, hugging her girlfriend back tightly.

"I-I don't... I don't wanna leave you!" Monika wailed into Sayori's shirt.

"Me neither..." Sayori said, still slightly in shock.

"When do you leave?" Yuri asked.

"T-Two weeks..." Monika managed to say softly.

Sayori paled.

No... They can't... Why would they... They can't take her from me! I need her!

"But I need you!" Sayori blurted out, tensing as soon as the words left her mouth and all eyes fell upon her.

"Sayo.." Natsuki made a face of sympathy, biting her lip as she watched her friend tear up.

"I-I can't... I can't lose you!" Sayori gripped the sides of her head as she broke down.

"You won't!" Monika promised.

"Yes I will! Every time... Every time I love someone they... They leave me! Soon I won't have anything left at all!" Sayori yelled, collapsing to her knees.

Natsuki knelt at her side, rubbing her back while Sayori continued to cry.

Monika covered her mouth with her hands, choking back a sob as she tried to think of how to comfort her girlfriend.

She didn't want this any more than Sayori did.

Yuri wrapped an arm across Monika's shoulders as she continued to sob quietly.

Why? Why is this happening?!

I have to get out of this...
