Twenty one
Jimin dumped himself tiredly on his living room couch. He had spent hours explaining to his lawyer about his court case with Taehyung and now he was spent. He finally sat up on the couch and looked around him. What the hell was he doing right now? He didn't even know how it all ended up like this.
Doo min suddenly entered into the living room watching him for a while. When he noticed her staring, it made him feel uncomfortable and he frowned.
"What?" he asked, his voice sounding tense.
The old woman moved slowly towards him and thrust a letter to his face.
"This came for you this afternoon" She said.
Jimin took the letter, opened it and glanced at it.
He scoffed. "He really wastes no time"
Doo min shifted uneasily. "I'm sorry sir. I couldn't help but take a tiny peek into the letter"
Jimin threw her a hard glare and she gulped. "I'm sorry I found out about it but i was just worried. what are you going to do now that Taehyung's summoned you to court"
Jimin sighed. He really wasn't mad at her. He was just exhausted "What do you think?"
He tossed the paper to the other side of the couch heavily aware of Doo min's gaze.
"What about Mintae? You have to tell him" the woman whispered.
Jimin took a deep breath "He'll know when the time comes...."
He started to leave "I'm exhausted Ahjumma. Can you run a hot bath for me?"
Doo min nodded. "Of course sir!"
She watched Jimin drag his feet slowly past her. She was always on Jimin's side but still, she wanted to scream at him, tell him how childish and immature he was at handling this whole thing but that would be too much. Jimin might be fond of her but she shouldn't forget he was still her boss. He could just as easily fire her which reminded her that she should know her place. Feeling pity for Jimin, she sighed sadly.
The days where agonizingly slow drawing up to the D-day. Taehyung and Jimin where going ahead with the court proceedings. It was difficult combining their jobs with the current situation but they handled everything despite the stress. Court cases where mind boggling and nerve wracking.
The day finally arrived. Jimin came to court with Yoongi and Hoseok while Taehyung came with Jungkook.
Surprisingly, they drove into the vicinity at the same exact time and since the lot was filled, they had to share a space parking both cars beside each other. They both came out throwing irritated looks at each other. They finally stood face to face with each other.
"You ready?" Jimin hissed with a mocking tone.
"Are you ready?" Taehyung mocked back.
Jimin just threw his head back in disdain finally ignoring him as he wrapped his arms around Yoongi's who threw Taehyung a harsh glare before them and Hoseok walked into the court house. Taehyung just shook his head at them then followed behind with Jungkook.
It was a very private closed door hearing with only the five of them, the lawyers and the judge who turned out to be an older looking female woman seeming to be in her early fifties. She had a tired expression on her face glancing at them from behind rimmed glasses.
The hearing began with both sides stating their cases. After a tiring two hours which seemed to drag on and on, the judge had heard enough.
"You two seriously need to work on your problems before anything else" she finally said after gathering her breath.
She eyed them. "It's obvious none of you is meant to get full custody of the child"
Jimin rose from his seat. "But that's not right! I raised him. I should have full custody and not Taehyung !" He cried.
The judge frowned. "Can you please calm down Mr Park. As far as i can remember, I didn't give custody to Mr Kim so I suggest you seat down before I change my mind"
Her face was stern and serious so Jimin pressed his lips in a tight line and sat back down letting Yoongi caress his back softly.
"Like i said, none of you seem fit enough to care for the child"
"You!" She pointed at Jimin then continued her speech "Have hidden the fact that you are a transgender for years and based on that, locked the kid up for most of his life. That's not right"
Jimin lowered his head with a guilty expression on his face.
"You!" the judge pointed at Taehyung. "Didn't have any idea you had a son until recently. Now all of a sudden you want to be a dad? What makes you think you are more than capable of taking care of him better than someone who has been with him his entire life"
Taehyung looked annoyed. "it shouldn't matter. I'm still his father. I should be with him"
"You're right but i don't want to hear it. You guys clearly have a lot of unresolved issues which you need to sort out between yourselves but personally, I really don't care what you guys do. I'm only interested in the child's welfare"
"On normal grounds, Mintae belongs to the both of you but it doesn't mean that i can't take him away when I discover he's not in a favorable environment"
She folded both her arms over her chest. "For the healthy mental growth of a child, both parents must at least try to get along according to my own personal opinion"
She looked around her cautiously. " So this brings me to my final verdict!"
The entire court room was silent, heart beating frantically as they waited for her to speak which she finally did.
"You are both going to have to live together temporarily with the child for a period of six months!"
"What?" Jimin and Taehyung chorused both rising from their seats. Every other person was shocked.
Jimin's lawyer spoke up. "But you can't do that. It's not like they are a divorcing couple"
The judge smiled smugly. "Actually attorney, I can do what ever i want to in my court room and my verdict stands, that is if they want their son in their lives. Mr Park and Mr Kim will live together with their son for a period of six months under which time they will learn to get along with each other!"
"You can't do this. I can't and will not live with this man under the same roof!" Jimin yelled at the top of his voice, his face turning red.
Taehyung looked weak, uncertainty gracing his features "Your honor I'm sorry but he and i can't stand each other. It won't work"
The Judge gave them a once over. "Then if you fail to achieve a level of comradeship with each other in the next six months,I'll take your child and hand him over to child protection services"
Her face was set and she looked down right serious.
Murmurings filled the hall.
Taehyung scoffed. "This is crazy. We aren't violent people. How can you take our child away from us simply because we don't get along?"
The judge shook her head. "Do you know the problem that we adults have? It's that we only think about ourselves when deciding on something not caring how such decision affects our children"
She shook her head again. "Do you know how many children suffer from depression, become delinquents, drug addicts just because of terrible parenting?"
Taehyung and Jimin shared guilty looks before pulling their eyes away.
"I'm sparing your child from ever going through that so it's either you try to get along in six months or you both loose him"
She smirked levelling her eyes at them "But don't think that you can come back in six months and tell me everything is fine when we know you are just lying"
She heaved. "So, you both will be reporting to the court assigned psycho therapist and counselor Mr Kim Seokjin on a weekly basis"
Taehyung's head banged furiously in his skull. Kim Seokjin? The same Kim Seokjin he knows? His therapist? Taehyung repeated in his head. Now this was getting more difficult.
The judge heaved once again. "See you both in six months. Court dismissed!" she said in a note of finality before grabbing her books and heading out of the court room like she couldn't get out of there fast enough.
Taehyung hung his head. This wasn't what he had expected at all. He felt Jimin frown deeply at him before marching out of the court room Yoongi and Hoseok at his tail.
Jungkook leaned closer to him "Sir, I can't believe this! You'll be living with Jimin?"
Taehyung looked pale "That's what it seems like..."
He bit his lips. "I'm in for the worst six months of my life" he murmured.
"But at least you'll be with your son" the other said trying to sound more cheerful but it wasn't helping. Taehyung knew Jungkook was right but still he couldn't find comfort in those words because the look he saw in Jimin's eyes before he walked out was the look of a man who was going to make his life a living hell.
Outside the court house, Jimin was speed walking towards his car in a fit of anger.
"Stop! Stop!" Hoseok yelled loudly pinning Jimin down by clutching his arms. Once Jimin had stopped, he sighed.
"We have to figure out a way to..."
Jimin rolled his eyes. "What's there to figure out! You heard the judge. I have to live with that man for six months. That lawyer you hired was just useless! useless!" he yelled.
He was clearly seething with rage.
Yoongi shook his head adamantly, placing both hands on his hips.
"I can't accept it. I won't tolerate it! How can my boyfriend live under the same roof with another man all because they share a kid together"
Jimin smiled smugly. "Don't you worry Yoonie. I'll make him feel so miserable that he wouldn't want to live with me anymore and he'll have no choice but to forfeit the custody"
Hoseok stared at him. "How do you suppose you will do that?"
Jimin shifted uneasily. "I don't know. I'll think of a way"
Yoongi grabbed Jimin hugging him tightly to his chest.
"I can't stand it. You and Mintae are every thing to me. To lose you to Taehyung is a bitter pill to swallow"
Jimin kissed his lips as they separated "You won't loose me Yoongi" he whispered.
At that moment, Taehyung came out of the building with Jungkook by his side. He paused for a while to look at them before he slowly started making his way over to them. Yoongi stood in his face as soon as he had reached them.
"What do you want?" he said through gritted teeth.
Taehyung smiled smugly. "I just want a truce with Jimin"
He looked at Jimin and stuck out his hand for a hand shake.
"I hope we'll get along and live together peacefully. At least for Mintae's sake" he simply said.
Jimin looked from him to his hand hesitantly before popping a fake smile onto his face.
"I hope so too" he said and shook his hand. In a matter of seconds, they withdrew their hands as if they had been scorched by fire.
"I'll discuss with you soon about how we'll do the moving in together thing but it will be better if you prepare Mintae and tell him about me before hand"
He smiled mischievously. "See you then"
He gave Yoongi a sly smirk before walking off to meet Jungkook. As soon as he was out of ear shot, Jimin scoffed.
"Living together peacefully my ass. I'll show you what it means to live together peacefully" he said, sarcasm lacing his tongue as he walked towards his car.
Taehyung reached Jungkook who was waiting for him beside his car.
"I know Jimin will not let this slide. He is going to plan something to make me look bad but I'm not going to let that plan succeed. I'm going to have to be careful"
Jungkook nodded and just as Taehyung opened the door to his car, he raised his head and his eyes met Jimin's who was also opening his car door but then the latter flashed him an in genuine smile synonymous with giving someone the middle finger before entering inside the car with Yoongi and Hoseok. Taehyung looked away and entered his car with Jungkook at the driver seat. In a few moments, the two cars drove away from each other heading towards opposite directions the occupants full of tension and hostility.
