4- All Of Kraken's Secrets

Finally, it's here.
———————

KrakenKid tiredly looks at the first question.

KrakenKid thinks for a moment, then nods to himself.

KrakenKid: Probably me. The penguin would hesitate, he's a peacekeeper on first instinct. However, I'm a survivor. I won't wait for him to strike, I'm keeping my life in my hands.

His eyes darken.

KrakenKid: I won't ever let an Atlantean have my life in their hands again.

—————

KrakenKid Squints for a long time.

KrakenKid: Well it's different since I actually AM a kraken, this isn't a fake body or anything. The penguin, Cannibal- all them too, we're just us. So that's a no.

——————

KrakenKid blinks at the question.

KrakenKid: Uhhhh, I mean I'm really tired but I can try?

KrakenKid takes out a piece of paper and pencil but after ten minutes of so, there's still only a bunch of scribbles on it.

KrakenKid: Huh, guess I'm kinda out of it. Sorry 'bout that

You get the feeling maybe that piece of paper will turn up again...

—————————

KrakenKid subconsciously takes out a piece of Special Chicken and munches on it.

KrakenKid: Sea chickens cut into the shapes of squids. That's what CrankyCrab said and I trust him so I don't see what else it would be. Why? Something wrong with it?

Sometimes tells you he's not going to believe a different answer.

——————

KrakenKid looks around, seeing that he's alone.

KrakenKid: Well, I'm the only one here but it probably wouldn't be that different. He's still an annoying bird brain who runs Atlantis. He might try and eat mice though, that'd be weird...

KrakenKid, who hasn't been able to sleep this whole time, stares at the wall like he's contemplating life.

———————

KrakenKid nods to himself, eyes blinking fast like he's trying to stay awake.

KrakenKid: Unicorn. I'm kinda afraid of heights and dragons can fly so that's a nightmare and a half for me. Unicorns are also pretty cool to begin with, and though most people don't know it, are the perfect war horses. They have spikes on their heads, they can impale enemies with them. It's perfect.

KrakenKid's eyes go round with amazement the more he thinks about it. You can tell he wants one.

———————

KrakenKid: Yes.

He... He doesn't seem to see what's wrong with his answer. Maybe it means he likes both? You're not really sure and you're slightly concerned for his health.

—————

KrakenKid looks slightly offended.

KrakenKid: I'm a boy so that'd be fanboying. And of course I have, did you see me when I first saw T-Rex? I could barely contain myself! He was a real villain! Asking for my help! I thought I was gonna pass out!

KrakenKid grins at the memory, sitting back and relaxing more.

——————

KrakenKid goes over the question a few times, thinking it over.

KrakenKid: Well, the kitten option means I don't have to kill it so I'm gonna go with that. Rather not kill either, I don't have anything against them.

No kittens, puppies, or animals of any kind were harmed in the making of these chapters.

——————

KrakenKid stares at the screen.

KrakenKid: Uhhh... Bug bite? I don't know a lot of first aid, I leave that to the doctors.

You get the feeling that KrakenKid got a C+ in his medical grade. You're not sure how you know this...

———————

KrakenKid Shakes his head quickly.

KrakenKid: Only medical ones when needed. We have a variety of them stored away. My life is already all screwed up, I don't need drugs to do that more.

You hear a faint 'Don't do drugs, kids' in the background.

————————

KrakenKid's eyes go really big for a moment, his pupils expanding.

KrakenKid: Your Head gets really screwed up and you can't walk. Not recommend, believe me, I face planted.

You get the feeling he has done this before on a particularly boring Friday Night to procrastinate doing paperwork. You still have no idea how you are getting all this information, but you roll with it.

—————

You didn't think it was possible for KrakenKid's eyes to get any bigger. You are very wrong. You can see the flames in them as he answers.

KrakenKid: Murder. Lots of murder until I find my son again. Nobody will stand in my way, there's a reason why mama bears are feared. A good parent will do anything for their child.

A parent's love for their child overcomes everything.

——————

KrakenKid frowns. His previously relaxed position fades as he thinks.

KrakenKid: I've made a lot of mistakes in the past, I can't deny that. I can't say I haven't shut people out before too but... It never solves much. The longer you spend alone, the more you pick apart yourself and the wound can't heal.

KrakenKid crosses his arms, sighing.

KrakenKid: Opening up is the first thing to do. It's easier to heal with other people, ask anyone. Being alone can be good, but it's not a solution. You can't heal alone.

You know he's talking from experience.

————————

KrakenKid gets really quiet. His eyes drop to the floor.

KrakenKid: It's unlike anything I've ever experienced. It's...

KrakenKid struggles for the right words. There's a pain in his eyes as he tries to describe it, then his arms droop and he finally knows.

KrakenKid: Lonely. It's so lonely. Everything goes dark and you can't move. I know I was only dead for a couple minutes but it felt like hours. I was trapped in an endless void and nobody was there. Just me. I got claustrophobic and tried to scream but my lungs were filled with something and I couldn't speak. Maybe it was because I wasn't supposed to be dead or I wasn't for long but-

He visibly shudders, grabbing his sides as if he's trying to hug himself and remind himself he's still there.

KrakenKid: I never want to feel like that again. It's hard to forgive Cody for making me feel that.

His eyes go dark again. You can tell thinking about it makes him wrathful.

—————

KrakenKid smiles at the mere thought of avoiding the genocide, and nods to himself.

KrakenKid: I think I'd be a florist. I already was the errand boy of the a flower shop and I memorized most of the flowers and their arrangements, plus they liked me. I like to think I could've pursed that.

Though he smiles for a while, it fades.

KrakenKid: Just a thought. It can never be true for me now.

You get the feeling he has thought about this before.

————

KrakenKid freezes in place. Slowly, he nods.

KrakenKid: One. She died long before the genocide though. I barely knew her but...

He trails off, his eyes go unfocused and you can tell he's trying to think. His mind goes somewhere else and his tentacle picks up the pencil still on the desk and begins to draw on the back of the paper.

KrakenKid: She was the first born and she was very strong. Athletic and training to one day join the army. I have vague memories- she died of disease before I could go to school- but they're all good ones. She held my hand a lot and-!

KrakenKid breaks off when he sees his paper again. He's drawn two krakens, one much bigger than the other, but not big enough to be their parent. They're both smiling and holding onto ice cream cones. A tear drips onto the paper but they're gone from his eyes the second  he knows they're there.

KrakenKid: I- uh... Don't know what happened there. It's fine, I'm fine.

Liar.

————————

You aren't sure if KrakenKid likes the question or not but his memories flood back.

KrakenKid: You mean Ena? Where do I begin with her?

He settles down, finding the right words to answer.

KrakenKid: She was tough for one thing. Could take down half the people in the Conch Command with her strength alone, not to mention she was an expert at battle strategies. She had the snark of Darrel and the mischievous mind of Blooper, but, well...

KrakenKid rubs the back of his head, sighing.

KrakenKid: She wasn't always great with people. In battle, she was amazing! She could lead armies into the heart of a base without much of a second thought. However sympathy wasn't her strong suit. Getting her into a relationship was difficult, she had no idea how to deal with her feelings or how to express them, and she was often kinda snappy if she felt like she couldn't understand your emotions.

KrakenKid is on the verge of smiling and crying. You can't tell which is winning.

KrakenKid: She means a lot to me, but she certainly had some issues. I sometimes wonder if maybe we rushed our relationship... But, that's in the past now and nothing I can do about it.

He looks sad. You determine that.

—————

KrakenKid goes silent once again.

KrakenKid: ...Yes. I'll say that it was hard to admit when I first found out, I haven't fallen for anyone since Ena, but I've talked it over with Darrel and there's no denying it anymore.

KrakenKid slumps in his chair and stares at the ceiling.

KrakenKid: Its funny really, Tanith and Ena are practically polar opposites. Tanith is emotional based and a medic, Ena is physical based and a general. Ena kills people for her profession and Tanith saves them. Sympathetic vs unsympathetic, human vs hybrid, Atlantean vs Tide Changer, lover vs fighter- the list goes on. But they're both strong in their own ways. That's what they have in common. That's why I fell for them.

KrakenKid lets out a long sigh and doesn't speak for a long time.

KrakenKid: I realized I was feeling things for her after I visited her in the hospital. After she was admitted for not sleeping for several days. It just clicked in my mind when I left because I realized I never would've snuck in to an Atlantean Hospital like that- risking myself of capture- just so I could talk to her. Not unless I really felt something. Then I realized how panicked I was that I could've lost her and one thing led to another and here I am.

He laughs to himself.

KrakenKid: I keep thinking about asking her but I guess I'm kinda chicken. Ena was hard to woo, makes me wonder if Tanith will be too.

You notice he's smiling...

——————

KrakenKid seems so lost.

KrakenKid: I-... I don't know. I couldn't kill Tanith, that's just wrong- I care about her- but Ena... Knowing for sure I could've saved her but let her die, that's just... I can't live with their opinion. There has to be another way, I can't do either.

You hear something in his voice. 'Don't make me choose', clear as day.

The question seems to wake him up. As time goes on, everyone else begins to wake up, and it's back to normal. Nobody questions the look in KrakenKid's eye, other than Tanith, though he can't seem to answer.
