Hidden Prince

Jungkook had always felt a mysterious pull towards the sea. Growing up, he often dreamed of vast oceans and endless horizons, but his grandmother, whom he affectionately called Nana, had always been firm about one thing: he was never to go near the sea. Jungkook never understood why, but out of respect and love for Nana, he obeyed.

Now, as a shy university student, Jungkook found himself yearning for adventure and a break from his studies. His friends had planned a trip to a seaside town, and despite his initial hesitation, they had convinced him to join them.

"Come on, Jungkook! It’ll be fun," his friend Hoseok had insisted. "We’ll relax, have some fun, and forget about exams for a while."

Nana had been reluctant but surprisingly gave her permission, albeit with a look of deep concern. "Be careful, my dear," she had said, pressing a seashell pendant into his hand. "Keep this with you always. It will keep you safe."

Jungkook promised her he would, though he didn't understand why she was so worried. The trip was meant to be a simple getaway, but little did he know, it was about to change his life forever.

The seaside town was beautiful, with golden sands, azure waters, and the salty tang of the ocean breeze filling the air. Jungkook felt an inexplicable sense of peace wash over him as soon as they arrived. The feeling was both familiar and strange, like coming home to a place he had never been.

While his friends ran towards the waves, Jungkook lingered by the shore, his eyes scanning the horizon. He felt a strange pull, a whisper in the back of his mind urging him to go deeper, to discover something hidden beneath the surface.

As the sun began to set, casting an orange glow over the water, Jungkook wandered away from the group, feeling a magnetic pull towards the rocky cliffs at the far end of the beach. He climbed up to find a secluded cove, the waves crashing rhythmically against the rocks.

Sitting on a boulder, he watched the sea, the pendant Nana had given him clutched in his hand. Suddenly, the water began to shimmer in a way he had never seen before, and from the depths, a figure emerged.

Taehyung, a merman with a piercing stare, broke the surface, his eyes locking onto Jungkook’s. His dark hair glistened with sea water, and his scales shimmered like precious gems in the fading light. He was both enchanting and intimidating, and Jungkook felt his breath catch in his throat.

“Who are you?” Jungkook managed to whisper, his voice barely audible over the crashing waves.

Taehyung swam closer, his eyes never leaving Jungkook’s. “I am Taehyung,” he said, his voice like the melody of the sea, yet with an edge as sharp as a blade. “And you, Jungkook, are more than you realize.”

Jungkook's heart pounded in his chest. “How do you know my name?”

Taehyung’s gaze remained cold, unwavering. “You are the merman prince, Jungkook. The sea has been calling you home.”

Jungkook shook his head, disbelief clouding his mind. “That’s impossible. I’m just a university student.”

Taehyung moved closer, reaching out to touch the seashell pendant. “This pendant was given to you to protect you until the time was right. You were hidden away to keep you safe, but now the sea needs you, and so do I.”

Confusion and fear swirled within Jungkook, but so did a strange sense of belonging. “Why should I believe you?”

Taehyung’s eyes, so intense yet filled with an icy determination, looked deep into his. “Because you can feel it, can’t you? The sea calls to you. It’s in your blood, in your soul. Come with me, and I will show you.”

Jungkook hesitated, the logical part of his mind warring with the undeniable pull he felt towards Taehyung and the sea. He glanced back at the beach where his friends were, but something in Taehyung's eyes compelled him to stay.

With a deep breath, Jungkook shook his head. “No, I can’t. I promised Nana I’d stay away from the sea. I need to go back.”

Taehyung’s expression hardened, but he nodded. “As you wish, but know this, Jungkook: the sea will not be denied. When the time comes, you will have to make a choice.”

Jungkook turned and hurried back to the beach, his heart racing. He couldn’t shake the feeling that Taehyung was right, but he also couldn’t ignore his promise to Nana. The pendant felt heavier around his neck, a constant reminder of the secrets he had yet to uncover.

Over the next few days, Jungkook tried to enjoy the trip with his friends, but his thoughts kept drifting back to Taehyung and the mysterious world beneath the waves. He found himself drawn to the sea, often wandering alone to the secluded cove where he had first met Taehyung.

One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, he saw another figure in the water. This time, it was a cheerful-looking merman with bright eyes and a warm smile. He approached Jungkook with an air of familiarity, as if they were old friends.

“Hi there!” the merman greeted. “I’m Jimin. I’ve seen you around and thought I’d introduce myself.”

Jungkook smiled shyly. “I’m Jungkook. Nice to meet you, Jimin.”

Jimin swam closer, his eyes sparkling with curiosity. “You’re different from the others who come here. There’s something special about you.”

Jungkook blushed, unsure how to respond. “I’m just a university student.”

Jimin’s smile widened. “Maybe, but I can tell there’s more to you than meets the eye. Do you like the sea?”

Jungkook nodded. “I do, but my Nana always told me to stay away from it. She gave me this pendant to keep me safe.”

Jimin’s eyes widened as he saw the pendant. “That’s a powerful talisman. It’s meant to protect you because you’re the merman prince.”

Jungkook sighed. “You sound just like Taehyung. He said the same thing.”

Jimin’s expression softened. “Taehyung is right. You have a destiny, Jungkook, and it’s tied to the sea. But I understand if you’re scared. It’s a lot to take in.”

Jungkook felt a pang of guilt. “I’m not scared. I just don’t want to break my promise to Nana.”

Jimin reached out and gently touched Jungkook’s hand. “Your Nana was only trying to protect you. The sea can be dangerous, but it’s also beautiful. There’s so much for you to discover, and I’d love to show you.”

Jungkook looked into Jimin’s eyes, feeling a warmth and sincerity that made him feel at ease. “Thank you, Jimin. I appreciate it.”

Jimin smiled brightly. “Anytime, Jungkook. If you ever change your mind, I’ll be here.”

As Jimin swam away, Jungkook felt a strange mix of emotions. He was grateful for Jimin’s kindness, but he couldn’t ignore the lingering presence of Taehyung in his thoughts. The sea seemed to whisper his name, calling him to uncover the truths hidden beneath its depths.

Days turned into weeks, and Jungkook’s internal conflict grew. He wanted to respect Nana’s wishes, but the call of the sea was becoming impossible to ignore. Taehyung and Jimin’s words echoed in his mind, reminding him of a destiny he couldn’t escape.

One evening, as he stood by the shore, Taehyung appeared again. His expression was cold, his presence commanding.

“Jungkook,” Taehyung said softly, “I know you’re struggling. I understand your loyalty to your grandmother, but the sea is part of you. You can’t deny it forever.”

Jungkook looked at Taehyung, his heart aching with confusion. “I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to hurt Nana, but I also feel like I’m missing something important.”

Taehyung’s gaze softened only slightly. “I was once like you, Jungkook. Torn between two worlds. But sometimes, we have to embrace our true selves, even if it means facing difficult truths.”

Jungkook sighed, feeling the weight of his decision pressing down on him. “I just need more time.”

Taehyung nodded. “Take all the time you need. Just remember, the sea will always be here for you. And so will I.”

As Taehyung disappeared into the depths, Jungkook felt a sense of determination. He would take his time, but he knew that eventually, he would have to confront the secrets of his past and embrace the destiny that awaited him beneath the waves.
