Thirty-Three

"We have to start preparing the body," Mylo whispered, we had been sitting in silence for quite some time.

I was still holding Uris against me, he looked so peaceful now, but I couldn't help but feel a tinge of frustration towards the recently deceased man. He could have told me the rest of the story or at least answered my questions so it made some sense. What did an old Sorcerer have to do with me? He never even told me if the sorcerer managed to cross back. "Do we know what tribe he was?"

Mylo chewed his lip and sighed, "He was the last of the Ebsum Guild."

Closing my eyes, I slowly shook my head, shifting away from Urius' body, "We cannot even give him a proper burial," I sighed as I reached up and pinched the bridge of my nose.

"Well..." Mylo started off slowly and my entire body tensed, already knowing where this was going. "We can't, but you can."

My face twisted into a look of disgust. "What? No!" I was quickly on my feet, "How could you even ask that?"

Mylo stumbled and rushed to get to his feet, "He's the last, he deserved a proper-,

"No!" I shouted as I turned my back to him and stormed off, appalled that he would even suggest me going back to the water just to eat the man.

"Leena!" Mylo was calling out for me as he hurried after me.

I never turned around as I continued back towards camp, only to see Thalian, Maya, Kane, and a few others who struggled to hold their swords running in my direction. "Leena!" Thalian called.

I groaned, "Does everyone want me right now?" I snapped, but Thalian didn't smile or even question what was wrong, he looked pissed.

The group of 7 stormed up to me, blocking my path. "Is it true?" Kane's voice was softer, but still scolding.

Throwing my hands up in the air, "Is what true?" I scoffed, but I had a feeling I knew what he was talking about. Kane frowned, almost like a disappointed father as he sighed. A pang of guilt washed over me and I replied somewhat coldly, "Ya, some guy said he knew about Earth and shit and..." I trailed off just to let out a string of curses follow by, "Not fucking now."

I started to walk in attempts to brush by them, but Thalian reached out and gripped my arm. "No, we are doing this now. These people deserve answers, I deserve answers."

Pulling back once at his grip, Thalian still didn't let go. "Answers? What answers?" A primal growl escaped my lips as I leaned it. "I know less today then I did yesterday and if you don't fucking mind, I'm going to cool off and find something other to eat than an old sick man!" I let my speech slur to more of a commoner level.

My last spiteful comment directed towards Mylo was enough to loosened Thalian's grip on me. "You did not...?" He questioned slowly.

Mylo sheepishly glanced down to his feet and began to stutter out an explanation. It wasn't one I was planning on sticking around to hear. I went to leave and one of the Elves with swords shakily pointed his blade at me. With one smooth motion, I hissed at him and swiped the blade out of his hands, it landed a few feet away in the grass. "I'm going to cool down," I glared right at Kane and waited for a beat before walking off in a huff, Kane telling the men to stand down and tried to deal with Thalian shouting at Mylo.

I had never felt so lost in my entire life, and that included a year and a half wandering around a different world. At least then I had a purpose, and now? I didn't even know who I was anymore. I felt like a traitor to my own kind, my world, and now some stranger practically told me it was my fault. I was lost and I only knew one way to rediscover who I was.

Standing on the beach, my toes were only inches from where the water washed up on the shore. My eyes were locked on the horizon and I took slow breaths in preparation. "Leena?" A familiar voice called and my head fell as I sighed.

I glanced over my shoulder, not seeing Maya, but I didn't bother to completely turn around. "You should not be here, child," I warned her gently.

I knew I sounded defeated and that must have translated because her voice was softer when she spoke again. "Everyone's been looking for you. What are you doing out here?"

Letting out a breathy laugh, I shook my head, "What I should have done the second I came back to this world and saw the state it was in."

I knew I sounded cryptic and it was worrying her. She came over and slid her hand into mine, squeezing it. "What's wrong?" She breathed.

My eyes finally met her face, it was twisted in concern, but I never felt bad for a second. "Come here," I mumbled, pulling on her hand so she was in front of me, her feet getting wet in the ocean.

"What-?" She started to ask as I leaned in and pressed my forehead against hers. There was a silence between us before I held my arms out and caught her as she went limp. I held her against me, placing the message to Kane in her head before gently lowering her to the sand.

I assumed she would be found, but if not she would wake up in 4 hours with a headache and the moment someone asked her where I was, the memory would click and she'd know. It should give me enough time to get far from here.

Running my hand along her cheek, I let out a long sigh before standing up straight and sliding my dress off. I laid it over top of Maya's unconscious body before turning and sprinting into the ocean, diving into the water head first and letting the saltwater claim me.
