Nine

Kane was handling the entire situation very well. Once everything was out in the open, he seemed even more comfortable with me. I would be the first to admit that we were starting to develop a strange friendship, the cop and the criminal, but it worked. I think after seeing the demon, Kane had a different perspective towards the situation I was in. He still had questions about me, but he respected me a bit more and saw me more than just a criminal.

I, of course, never asked him about it directly. I didn't want to remind him that he was supposed to arrest me and bring me in for over half a dozen crimes. Even if he did change his mind now, it would be too late. Now that he knew what I was, he knew I couldn't survive more than a day behind bars.

There was a knock on the door and I glanced up as Kane walked in. "I know you said leather, but are these okay?" Kane asked as he stared down at the gloves I had sent him to the store for. He held them in the air for me and his gaze followed. "Oh my gosh..." He whispered as he saw me before grinning, "You look..." Kane trailed off again.

Laughing, I stood up as I looked at myself in the mirror. "It was the best I had with the clothes from your world." Normally, I would never dress like a man with a black turtleneck tank top and black pant, but there was no way I was getting a dress that would fit my world here.

"No, you look amazing," Kane said with a smile as he tugged on his black pleather gloves, strolling over to me. "Come here though, your belt is twisted though," he chuckled as he sat down on the bed.

I frowned as I looked down at the leather belt I had stolen, "Is it?" I asked as I attempted to look at the back, like a dog chasing her tail.

"Yes," Kane laughed harder as I walked over to him. I lifted my arms above my head as he undid my belt and worked on fixing it for me. "Won't you be cold though?"

Once the belt was fixed, I stepped back. "I have a cloak and I went through your bags and found you something. It is hanging in the bathroom, go get changed so we can leave."

Kane stood and gave me a mock salute, "Yes Ma'am." He headed to the bathroom and a moment later, walked out as he picked at his shirt. "This isn't mine."

"Okay, I stole it while you were gone, arrest me," I said as I examined him before nodding. The plain cream v-neck shirt and brown pants worked well on him, he would fit in well.

"Leena..." Kane warned, not finding the joke as funny as I did.

Waving him off, I collected my olive cloak in my arms, not putting it on yet as to not draw attention to us. "If you are going to be mad, be mad at the fur coat in your vehicle which I also stole."

"Leena," he protested again, this time more annoyed. "I am a cop, do you remember that?"

Nodding, I sighed as I crossed my arms over my chest. "Yes, and you enforce human laws. Am I human? No. So technically, you cannot arrest me."

Kane's brow furrowed, analyzing what I had just said. "Just get in the car," he huffed, giving up. He knew he wouldn't win the argument and in less than an hour it wouldn't matter anyways. I grinned, taking his defeat as a victory and skipped off in my bare feet towards the door. "Shoes," he called out once I had opened the door.

"Oh hell no, I have put up with your uncomfortable footwear for long enough." I replied before skipping out of the dingy motel room for the last time as I raced for the car. If I was any more excited, I would be humming right now; I couldn't believe that I was going home.

Kane was slower to get to the car, he seemed reluctant. I could understand why. Soon I would be home, but he was embarking to a new world which he knew nothing about. He was leaving behind everything and everyone he ever knew to come to a world full of magic and dangers like he could never imagine. "It is not too late to turn back around," I told him when he got into the vehicle.

Shaking his head, Kane started the SUV, "No," he sighed. "I was just wondering what everyone would think happened to me." He admitted before glancing at me, "Probably the same thing your family thinks happened to you."

I shrugged and looked out the window, "My family probably did not miss my absence. I was a pain to my mother and my brother has always wanted the throne."

"Throne?" Kane nearly choked out

Glancing at him, I hesitated, "Did I forget to mention my family rules the Suxolf  Sea?" From Kane's stunned reaction, I could tell that was a "yes". "Sorry, but you need to remember that you will see your home again."

Kane's head bobbed as he put the car into gear, "I know I will, I just don't know what I'll be returning to." He said before changing the topic off of himself. "So, any last major details I should know about before I enter your world?"

"Like what?"

"Like, oh, I don't know. How about that I will be travelling with royalty?" Kane made the snarky remark like a child as he pulled out of the parking lot.

"Royalty in water, pain in the ass everywhere else."

"You can say that again." Kane and I both erupted into laughter, easing the tension from the anxiety-filled car.
