Chapter 12
Adrien
I wake up after a long hot night with my world wrapped in my arms, quietly sleeping peacefully.
I watch his face.
So beautiful.
I can't help but reach over and touch a palm softly to his cheek, causing his lashes to flutter open and reveal the beautiful crystal beneath them.
Jamie
"Good morning," he says, his voice deep as it rumbles through his chest.
He smiles as he brushes the hair from my face.
I return the loving gaze and nuzzle into his soft hand.
"Good morning," I whisper.
He continues petting my hair in silence, just watching my face as I instinctively cuddle up to him.
I rest my head against his bare chest and sigh happily as he wraps his arms around me.
"God, I love you," we both blurt out at the same time.
I look up at him, giggling, as he gazes into my eyes.
"I love you, too," we both reply, laughing.
I toss my arms around his shoulders and he lifts me onto his abdomen.
He kisses me deeply, struggling not to smile.
His hands run the expanse of my body, trailing over my shoulders and down my spine and over my hips, before he pulls me back down and closes the gap between us.
"I really do love you," he says, smiling.
"I love you, too."
A knock on the bedroom door interrupts our conversation.
"Hey, get your asses up! We're going to the beach today!" Mason calls from the other side of the door.
"Alright, we'll be down in a few," Ian replies.
As the footsteps recede, I long for just a few more minutes alone.
He sits up, pulling me into his lap and wrapping his arms snugly around my waist.
He kisses me softly, slipping his tongue over my lips and into my mouth, and after we part, he leaves a loving kiss on my forehead before standing and retrieving a pair of board shorts from his suitcase.
I can't help but watch his bare figure waltz across the room fearlessly, his confidence unwavering despite the scratches trailing down his back and the bite marks along his neck.
God, I am a whore, aren't I?
I laugh at the thought as he steps into the shorts.
"What?" He asks, quirking an eyebrow.
"You... may want to wear a shirt," I say, blushing.
"And why is that-? Oh."
He laughs, noticing a hickey gleaming a deep blue- purple on his shoulder.
"As for you, you may not want to go swimming at all, because-"
"Oh, God, what did you do this time?" I laugh.
He shrugs sheepishly as I pull back the covers to reveal a plethora of beautiful bruises and bites all along my legs, along with stiff muscles and a burning pain between my hips.
I place a hand on my aching stomach and groan.
"Jesus, Ian," I whisper, giggling.
"Jay, I'm so sorry," he says, immediately brokenhearted.
I can't help but laugh, motioning him over.
"You need to stop. You're amazing and sweet and I love you to bits, alright? Don't apologize for making me the happiest person on the planet," I say, pulling him into a kiss.
He picks me up in his arms and twirls me around the room, laughing.
"Oh, Jay, I love you so much!"
After a few more minutes of fucking around, we finally get dressed.
He gives me one of his t- shirts that almost reaches my knees in an attempt to cover the damage he dealt.
A few fingerprints still poke out, however, and I give up on hiding it.
We make our way downstairs and head over to where Dan has made breakfast.
"Mmm! Eggs and bacon? Thanks, mama," Ian says, taking a full plate and leaving a peck on Dan's cheek before patting a chuckling Mason on the head.
I raise a brow as he plops down on the sofa and rests his heels on the coffee table. I take my seat next to him.
"I ain't ya mama, now get ya damn feet off my table!" Dan calls, dumping a load of scrambled eggs off the pan and onto Drake's plate.
I laugh as Ian digs in, stuffing his mouth with food.
He must be famished, I mean after all we did last night...
"Thanks, Danny," Drake calls.
"Yeah, no prob. Jaydon, get your ass out here! Breakfast is ready!" Dan calls.
I go rigid as Ian wraps his arm around my shoulder and Jaydon steps into the room.
"I'm coming, I'm coming- oh, hey, Love birds," he says with a grin.
"How did you sleep? That is, if you got any at all."
"If you don't shut your goddamn mouth, I'm gonna shut it for you, you fucking piece of-"
"Hey, now, what's with all this mess?" Dan calls, entering the room with two plates in his hands.
"He started it," Jaydon says, pointing a childish, accusatory finger at Adrien.
"What!? No I did not, he did-!"
"I don't care! This is gonna be a long trip, and if y'all don't start getting along, I'm gonna have to start whooping some ass! Now shut up and eat your damn eggs!" Danny yells, plopping the plates down on the coffee table before returning to the kitchen.
Mason walks in, taking a seat beside me.
He nudges me with his elbow.
"You should be a bit more careful. I mean what y'all do is your business but you shouldn't leave things where other people can see 'em," he says, motioning to my neck.
I duck my head and tug on my collar, blush overcoming my features.
"Hey, it's okay," Ian whispers, pulling me close and kissing my head.
After an hour of socializing and letting tensions die down, we all finally decide to go out.
...
Ian and I step onto the beach, hand in hand as the rest of the guys disperse onto the shore.
"Woohoo! Spring break!" Jaydon yells as he b- lines toward the water, turning the heads of confused summer tourists.
I laugh as Drake abandons all composure and chases after his secret inamorato, discarding their bags in the sand and tossing off his shirt and shoes in the process.
Dan walks off to find our big umbrella, holding about five bags while wearing a wide brimmed hat, thick sunglasses, and a face full of suntan lotion like the tourist he is.
Mason suddenly comes up, smacks the back of Ian's head and runs away, laughing.
Ian drops my hand and his few bags, immediately chasing after my cousin and tackling him to the ground.
"Okay, okay! I'm sorry!" Mason gasps between fits of laughter, as Adrien wrestles him into the sand.
He stands triumphantly as I grab our bags and step towards him. He grins as Mason lays back in the warm sand and laughs, so easily defeated.
I scoff as I walk past, raising an unimpressed brow as Ian nudges Mason's side with his foot.
"Oh, come on, Jay!" He laughs, chasing after me.
"You're a dumbass," I say, suppressing a smile.
"Yeah, yeah. I know," he says, taking my bags from me.
"I'm just a big dumb idiot," he smiles, stooping down to kiss my cheek before taking off down the long strip of beach.
I can't help but think of how much I love him as I watch him go.
He begins setting up our stuff in our big rented cabana; rolling out our two big towels and unfolding the lawn chairs as I grab everyone else's things and toss them on the sand outside the tent.
"Hey, hand me the sunblock," I call, kicking off my sandals.
He picks up the small bottle of SPF 150 and pulls me over.
"Here, let me help you out with that," he says, squeezing a bit too much into his palm.
"Oh god," I mutter, pulling off my shirt.
He proceeds to smear the lotion across my face and body, leaving me looking like a Picasso painting.
I can't help but laugh when he fumbles, dropping a few globs of sunscreen, not to mention the whole bottle, into the sand.
"Ah, shit," he mutters, hastily snatching up the tube as I chuckle.
"Thanks, Ian, but I think I can take it from here," I say.
"Yeah, that's probably a good idea."
I start rubbing in the slimy substance, the shade just slightly lighter than my own skin.
"Hey, get my back, though, would ya?"
I feel his cool fingers massaging my shoulders and down my back, causing a shiver to run up my spine.
He kisses my temple, rubbing the residue from his hands onto his arms nonchalantly.
Fucking tan people, ugh.
"You wanna go swim, Jay?" He asks, shedding his shirt and sunglasses.
I nod.
"Yeah, but only if you come with me."
He smiles, taking my hand.
"Let's go then," he says, leading me briskly toward the rolling waves.
I kick at the water, sending a million little droplets flying his way.
"Hey!"
He laughs, grinning mischievously as he tries to splash me.
I wade deeper into the waves, not letting him out of my sight.
He pursues me, taking large and easy steps through the nearly waist deep tide, or at least waist deep for me.
"I'm gonna get you sooner or later, James!"
I laugh as he quickly closes in.
In my carelessness, I take a wrong step and trip over my own feet, falling in with a splash and a yelp.
Ian grabs my hand in an instant and yanks me back up into his arms.
"Jesus, Jamie! Be more careful!" He scorns.
I shiver, the water chilling me to the bone, and burst out laughing, as does he.
I push him back, him stumbling and splashing down beneath the waves.
He surfaces, gasping desperately.
"What the hell, James!? I could've died!" He exclaims, over dramatically.
"Oh, shut up. The water doesn't even hit your hips, you're fine," I laugh, wading in deeper.
"Well I'm sorry I'm taller than you," he says sarcastically, with a shit- eating- grin perched upon his lips.
"Oh, really? You know what?"
"No, no I really don't."
"I swear to God, Ian. I'm gonna fucking-"
"What?" He interrupts, stepping in front of me.
"What are you going to do, James?"
"I- well I'm gonna... uh," I stutter, trying to think of a good comeback.
"Ooh, fuck you!" I laugh, blushing and shoving him aside.
"Yep, exactly what I thought," he says, smugly.
I roll my eyes, dragging my fingers across the surface of the water.
I take another few steps when I feel a tap on my shoulder and as I turn to face Adrien, he darts behind me and lifts me effortlessly into his arms.
"Woah, what are you doing!?" I exclaim, caught off guard.
He pulls me further out into the water, the waves crashing against his stomach.
We both laugh, splashing around like idiots in the warm waters of the Pacific.
"Ian!" I squeel, giggling as he spins me around.
Several long hours of darting in and out of the water pass, and being so distracted by each other, we don't notice the rising tide before an enormous wave crashes onto us and pulls us under.
Thankfully, we quickly wash up on shore, spluttering, coughing and laughing all the while.
"Fucking Christ," he chokes, crawling on his hands and knees.
I can't help but lay back in the warm, wet sand, laughing gleefully.
"W- what the fuck... is wrong with you?" He wheezes, breathlessly, cracking a wary smile.
"I just love you so much, is all."
He scoots next to me, slouching over his knees.
The sun finally begins to set over the rising tide, blazing beautifully against the mirrored horizon.
"Jamie," he says.
"Yeah, Ian?"
"I love you," he says, turning to face me.
I scoot closer to him and rest my head in his lap.
"I love you, too," I say quietly, as he runs his fingers through my wet mop of hair.
We spend the last few minutes of the day watching the sun set.
