REAL LIFE
"YOU ALWAYS DID LOVE the rain." diana heard oscar approach her from the side. diana looked up at oscar. it seemed like he'd just come from his own garage, which was on the other side of the pit lane. he was nearly soaked from the rain.
"hm?"
"i said that you always did love the rain." oscar repeated. he took a seat next to her and diana tried not to stare at how insanely good he looked with his hair plastered to his forehead. he always kept his hair in that stupid side part and she would never admit it, but diana wished he would keep it messy more often.
"oh," diana nodded, scooting over to make room for him. "what makes you think that?"
"i remember when we raced together in f2 and f3, you always just sat outside for minutes on end whenever it rained before races. i thought you were crazy for that. and somehow, you rarely ever got sick from it."
"it's weird, i know." diana chuckled. "but since i was a baby, my parents told me that i slept better on rainy nights and when i was a kid, i even would run outside to play in the sprinklers when it wasn't raining. in a way, the rain just...calms me. it softens the anxiety that i get before a race, especially a wet race. those always get me on edge."
"really? but you always drove your best during wet races." oscar said. diana raised her eyebrows.
"that doesn't mean it's not scary. i drive my best because i'm the most careful. and not to mention, i still have a broken rib that's healing."
"i wouldn't stress about it too much." oscar told her, softly. "i know i haven't expressed it much at all, but you really are one of the best drivers i know. even with a fractured rib and through the rain."
"oscar piastri complimenting me? i must be dreaming." diana couldn't help but smile at the boy, who let out a dry laugh.
"very funny." he rolled his eyes. "but i'm serious, ana. you're extremely talented."
"thank you, jack." diana replied. "you're also extremely talented. wdc material, i'd even say."
"ah, thank you." oscar smiled at her. diana sighed and looked back toward the track. the rain showed no sign of slowing down at the moment and the two young drivers were nearly soaked if not already.
"i remember during our formula three days, i went this party with my best friend cassidy," diana began. oscar turned to look at her, a curious look on his face, but diana was still looking in front of her.
"what kind of party?" oscar asked.
"it was a holiday party after the season ended. i think arthur was hosting it. a bunch of us prema people were there."
"oh, really?" a look of realization flashed across oscar's face as he listened. "what about it?"
"we played this game that was like a mix of spin the bottle with seven minutes in heaven. i remember thinking how insanely stupid and childlike this game was. it felt like i was in middle school again. but of course, i played the game anyway."
"right. what happened?" oscar asked, wanting to know diana's interpretation of that fateful night nearly four years ago. diana finally looked at him, the faintest glint of mischief in her eyes.
"i spun the bottle and it landed on somebody that i absolutely despised at the time. i thought he was conceited and annoying and way too sassy for his own good. this guy also loved to annoy me at any given moment."
"you were pretty annoyable back then."
"shut up and let me finish the story." diana glared at him. "anyway, we went into the closet and it was dark, so i turned on my flashlight. for a couple moments, we stared at each other with pure distaste and annoyance. i wanted to get out of there more than anything. but then, the guy said something that caught me so off-guard. he said..."
"'what would you do if i kissed you right now?'" oscar finished, his memory of that night also coming back to him. diana looked at him again, her eyes flickering down to his lips for just one moment.
"i said 'i would forget that it ever happened.'" diana replied, maintaining eye contact with oscar, who leaned forward slightly.
"and then..." he began to finish the story. "the boy said 'good.' before he kissed you." his face was close to diana's now, to the point where he could smell the faint smell of perfume that was sprayed before she went out in the rain. "i know this story."
"in case you couldn't tell, i never forgot about it." diana said to oscar, who nodded.
"neither did i." he replied. he hesitated for a brief moment before letting out a breath. "and what would you do if i kissed you right now?" he asked. diana's eyes widended. she wasn't expecting that.
"i'd...probably kiss you back." she admitted. oscar let out a small chuckle.
"good." he said before leaning in and closing the gap in between them. diana kissed back almost immediately and for a moment, it felt like the rain stopped. for a moment, it felt like there was no race tomorrow. for a moment, it felt like oscar and diana were the only two beings who existed at this point in time. for a moment, it felt like they never hated each other in the first place. diana's hand made it's way up to oscar's face while oscar's stayed near her waist.
"should we tell our friends? logan?" diana asked, pulling away for a second. her mind was reeling now that she had finally kissed oscar, and willingly this time. oscar furrowed his eyebrows.
"how about we figure all of that out later." oscar suggested. diana bit her lip with hesitation.
"i guess i just thought..." she started before she shook her head. "never mind, just kiss me again."
"gladly." oscar smiled as he leaned in again.
