REAL LIFE

THE SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND prix ended on a pretty high note for diana. she had finished in tenth place, which was a lot better than last week. on top of that, she got to reconnect with her former formula 2 teammate oliver bearman this weekend. oliver was filling in for an ill carlos sainz, much like how diana had filled in for kevin magnussen last year. he had finished the race in seventh, impressing everyone in the paddock and making diana insanely proud of him.

on another note, oscar and diana have been surprisingly good about the whole 'fake friendship' thing since they filmed the youtube video. both drivers had recieved props from their managers for coming up with the idea and the lack of major argument between them in the youtube video was just enough to make the media forget about the incident in the bahrain media pen. while the two were quick to make undercover social media pages to continue their bantering jabs, they acted as civil as could be in front of the public. 

diana didn't want to admit it, but she was genuinely starting to enjoy oscar's company. sure, the two still argued and fought when they were alone, but they were having pretty solid conversations during the drivers' parade and in the paddock. surprisingly enough, oscar was pretty good at making small talk.

"the way you raced the other day was impressive, ana." nico told her as the two walked toward one of the meeting rooms. the drivers were spending their time off from racing to discuss what to fix for the rest of the season. the results from the first two races were pretty decent, thanks to diana, but naturally, haas wanted more. 

"thanks nico!" diana smiled at her teammate, who finished the race in twelfth. "ollie did quite amazing as well. i'm so proud of him." 

"from the looks of things, he might be joining you next year." nico said, referring to the fact that his own contract with haas was ending. judging by the young british driver's performance with ferrari this weekend, it would be no surprise if the american team signed oliver with the female driver for the upcoming season.

"i'd be really happy about that." diana nodded. "but i really will miss you, nico. have you been able to sign with a team yet?"

"i'm still talking around. but once i make a decision, you will be the first to know." nico smiled at her. "now, how are things going with oscar? there's been some talk that the two of you are pretending to be friends, per request from public relations?"

"ugh," diana rolled her eyes. "never make your sister your own manger, nico. we have to keep up this charade for as long as possible! it's as if a day of us not being enemies somehow makes the whole world forget about our ancient karting rivalries. you can't make us friends that quickly. oscar's still an ass."

"you both are asses to each other." nico shook his head. "but i did watch that youtube video you posted. it did seem quite nice to see you guys get along."

"we barely got along." diana argued. "we still argued a lot during that video."

"ah, but it was more like playful banter than the usual 'on the verge of killing each other' insults." nico replied. "and i did notice you seemed naturally more relaxed. admit it, ana. you're enjoying the friendliness."

"i guess it's nice not to be insulting each other every five seconds." diana admitted. "but that doesn't change the fact that he's an asshole. he's rude and mean and never fails to annoy me."

"diana." nico squinted at her. "he's obviously doing it for your attention."

"you're the third person to say that to me." diana groaned. "and i did consider it and try to be more friendly to him, but then he said that we'd probably never actually be friends and that kind of hurt. did i tell you he made an undercover twitter account just to continue his hate comments?"

"yes." nico replied to the girl. "and if i remember correctly, you also made an undercover twitter account to hate on him."

"but that's different!" diana exclaimed. nico raised his eyebrows at her. 

"is it really?"

"well, no." diana rolled her eyes. "but that's not the point! the point is that oscar hates me and i hate him and no matter how much i might enjoy our conversations or feel a little better when we don't argue will not the change the fact that he does not want to be my friend."

"my goodness." nico rubbed his temple. "you kids are so dramatic, honestly!" the two arrived to the meeting room, after what seemed like forever. "we'll continue this conversation later."

"no we won't." diana snapped. "i'm sick of talking about him to everyone."

"yet you're the one who continues to talk about him." nico pointed out, catching diana off guard and making her frown. she hated that he was right.

"let's just go in." she huffed, walking past nico and into the meeting room. nico looked after her in amusement. he has a feeling that diana is going get tired of this eventually. at this point, he was waiting for the day she'd finally admit that she was in love with oscar piastri.
