Chapter4: Meeting The Staff

Intro:

No One POV:

Turning around, Ben noticed a towering demon approaching them, holding what seemed like a vintage microphone.

The man with the radio voice was exceptionally tall, clad in a red tuxedo adorned with horizontal cherry-red stripes, a bow tie, and he carried a cane topped with a microphone. His eyes glowed red and he wore a monocle, while his hair transitioned from black to cherry red, resembling cat ears at the top with tiny deer horns. But what stood out most was his devilish smile.

As Ben took in his appearance, he nervously met Alastor's gaze, feeling a bead of sweat trickle down his forehead.

Alastor: "Charlie, you're not introducing me to your new friends?"

Charlie: "Oh yes, Ben. This is Alastor, more commonly known as 'the radio demon'..."

Alastor: "Ah, Benjamin, what a gracious name"

Charlie smiled, relieved that Alastor wasn't showing hostility towards Ben, while Ben was grateful not to have another sharp object pointed at his neck.

Extending his hand, Ben shook Alastor's, realizing that despite his menacing appearance, Alastor was currently being cordial. Ben reminded himself not to judge based on appearances alone, though he remained wary of the demon's unpredictability.

As they shook hands, Ben noted Alastor's sophisticated manner of speaking and decided to mirror it, hoping to make a favorable impression.

Ben: "It is an honor to make your acquaintance, Mr. Alastor"

Alastor: "Oh dear, a young man with such good manners is rather rare these days"

Ben, feeling a sense of pride, responded.

Ben: "Thanks. All these years have taught me to be a good person"

Alastor, his ever-present smile widening slightly, countered.

Alastor: "And there's still more for you to learn, considering you're still alive"

Ben was taken aback.

Ben: "You... you know I'm human?"

Alastor chuckled softly, his tone laced with amusement.

Alastor: "Isn't it obvious, dear? From your appearance, although you seem like a person who knows how to walk a mile in others' shoes"

Ben's expression hardened, his earlier fear dissipating but now replaced with suspicion.

Ben: "What do you mean by that?"

Alastor's smile widened even further, his eyes glinting with an unsettling amusement.

Alastor: "Oh, nothing, dear Benjamin"

Charlie watched with growing unease as Alastor continued, his tone taking on a darker edge.

Alastor: "There's just something intriguing about you I can't quite decipher"

His head turned unnaturally fast towards Ben, black liquid oozing from his mouth as he spoke.

Alastor: "And you know how much I value mystery and amusement"

Ben recoiled in surprise, taken aback by Alastor's sudden shift in demeanor. Before he could respond, Alastor reverted to his usual facade, casually draping a hand on Ben's shoulder and turning towards Charlie.

Alastor: "Charlie, my dear, I have an idea. Why don't I introduce our new guest to the rest of our delightful company?"

Despite her unease, Charlie maintained her composure, nodding slowly as she replied to Alastor with a smile.

Charlie: "Sure, Alastor. That might be a good idea"

Alastor clapped his hands together, the sound slightly muffled by his gloves.

Alastor: "Marvelous. I shall take my leave to find them. This will surely be entertaining"

He gestured with a sweeping motion of his hand before turning and striding deeper into the hotel.

Once Alastor had departed, Ben sighed heavily, leaning against the wall and shaking his head in bemusement.

Ben: "Entertaining... pfft. The guy acts like I'm his favorite Saturday morning cartoon"

He heard Charlie chuckling softly at his remark, which brought a smile to his face as he both waited to meet more demons.

Time Skip:

Ben tapped his feet impatiently, his eagerness to meet the demons wearing thin. He just wanted to get this over with.

Meanwhile, Charlie was engrossed in paperwork at the desk.

After a while, Ben heard voices approaching, their chatter becoming more coherent as they drew nearer.

???: "Jeez, what's so important about this guest for us to pause our shit?! Is he at least hot?"

Alastor: "Haha, no"

Ben frowned upon hearing Alastor's response to the voice. Then another voice spoke, this one slurring their words.

???: "Ugh, my head hurts. Who cares if they're attractive or not, I just want this over with so I can knock back a cold one"

Finally, a third feminine voice chimed in.

???: "Ohhh, I hope it's a guy, oh, also evil! So we can go stab people together, hahahah!"

Ben was eager, albeit a bit wary, especially after hearing the third voice. Finally, Alastor and the others entered the room near the desk.

Ben, who had grown somewhat accustomed to the demons of Hell, couldn't help but widen his eyes slightly. Unlike many residents of this hotel who appeared somewhat human-like, these three newcomers were distinctly different. To his left stood a petite redheaded cyclops girl, in the middle a cat with wings, and on the right a very tall, feminine spider. Ben thought Alastor was tall, but this newcomer was on another level altogether.

The three newcomers mirrored his confusion, at least two of them did. Ben wasn't sure what was going through the mind of the small Cyclops girl, as the plastered smile on her face hadn't faltered or blinked. Was she okay?

The exchanged glances, their expressions a mix of curiosity and intrigue.

???: "Hey Alastor, is this guy really human? What's he doing here?"

The spider's voice carried a suggestive tone, swaying his hips as he spoke.

???: "Yeah, what's with the human? Isn't this supposed to be a sinner rehabilitation place"

The cat's speech slurred slightly, his intoxicated state evident in his struggling words.

Alastor's smile widened as he turned to face Ben, his eyes sparkling with amusement.

Alastor: "Why don't you ask Benjamin yourself?"

He gestured towards Ben, stepping closer and resting a hand on his shoulder.

Alastor: "Go on, introduce yourself, Dear. Don't worry, we don't bite"

He reassured, flashing his fangs with a mischievous smile.

With a gentle nudge, Alastor prompted Ben forward. The cat-like creature swayed slightly, while the tall, feminine spider tilted his head in curiosity.

Ben: "Hello, my name is Ben Tennyson, but you can just call me Ben. I'll be staying here for a while"

Ben introduced himself with a friendly wave. Alastor's gaze fixed on the watch adorning Ben's wrist. He tilted his head slightly, his grin widening with amusement.

Ben: "Hope that's alright, of course"

The two looked at each other before the spider demon shrugged, crossing his arms.

Angel Dust: "As long as Charlie is okay with it, I don't mind"

Ben glanced at the cat demon, who shrugged as well.

Husk: "I don't give a fuck either way"

Charlie beamed with excitement, standing swiftly from her seat and making her way towards the group.

Charlie: "Great! I'm glad you guys don't mind him. But what about you, Niffty?"

Ben glanced down at Niffty, who was shaking with excitement until suddenly she lunged at Ben, grabbing his face and spinning him around before they both tumbled to the floor. Niffty giggled playfully.

Niffty: "Oh! A human buddy! And he's handsome too! Jackpot!"

Ben chuckled nervously as he got up, slightly disoriented from the unexpected interaction.

Alastor snickered quietly before extending an arm towards Niffty.

Alastor: "My dear, this young lady is Niffty. She is our housekeeper, or more precisely, hotel keeper"

Niffty gave a cute bow upon being introduced, but Ben was quite surprised to hear that she worked there.

Ben: "Wait, she's a maid? You guys let children work here?"

Ben turned towards Charlie accusingly, making her yelp and hold her hands up in defense.

Charlie: "No, no, it's not like that!"

Alastor chuckled loudly, drawing Ben's attention back to him.

Alastor: "Oh dear, I must admit, I'm currently experiencing a hearty chuckle. No, no, Niffty here is by no means a child"

Niffty: "You should know, young man, that I am only twenty-two. My appearance can sometimes be deceiving. And you?"

Ben: "Wait, she's older than me?"

Niffty: "Really? How old are you?"

Ben: "I'm eighteen"

Niffty: "Wow, you look older than you are. In a good way, of course! Haha! Let's become good friends"

Ben: "I'd be happy to be your friend, Niffty"

He turned to Charlie, who looked very happy to see how well things were going.

Alastor then turned his head towards them.

Alastor: "Now, let me introduce you to Husk"

He stepped towards the cat demon, placing a hand on his shoulder, only for Husk to slip out.

Husk: "There's no need"

Husk staggered his way towards Ben, forcing a handshake before slurring.

Husk: "Hi, I'm Husk. I'm an alcoholic. See you... never"

Letting go, Ben's hand fell to his side, stunned in surprise as Husk staggered back out of the room.

Ben turned to Charlie, who shrugged nervously.

Charlie: "Haha, that's... Husk for you. Don't worry, he's always angry"

Ben nodded, relieved it didn't have to do with him being a human. He then turned to Alastor, who was still smiling, but Ben felt like behind that smile was anger, he didn't know why, but he didn't want to ask either.

Alastor then gestured towards Angel Dust. Ben could hear Charlie sigh for some reason. He glanced at Angel Dust, noticing the demon's predatory gaze. Despite the unnerving look, Ben stood his ground.

Angel Dust: "My name is Angel Dust, but you can also call me 'Daddy'..."

Ben raised an eyebrow, slightly taken aback.

Ben: "Daddy?"

Angel Dust moved in closer, his smirk widening.

Angel Dust: "See, you're a natural~"

Ben gagged in disgust, instinctively backing away.

Ben: "Oh, I think Husk is calling me. Better go"

Ben quickly turned on his heel, almost tripping over his own feet in his haste to leave the room. He glanced back to see Angel Dust chuckling, clearly enjoying his reaction.

As he entered the next room, he let out a sigh of relief. He scanned the room, taking in its details. His eyes were drawn to a bar in the corner, looking out of place as if it had been ripped from another establishment and placed there. Ben frowned, puzzled by the sight. He approached it cautiously, running his fingers over the worn countertop, trying to make sense of its presence in the hotel.

Suddenly, someone jolted up from behind the bar. Ben leaped back in surprise as bottles of beer clattered to the ground, some cracking open. Husk emerged from the pile, groggily rubbing his eyes.

Ben, regaining his bearings, was in awe.

Ben: "How did you drink all that? We were just talking a minute ago!"

Husk, blinking blearily, glanced at the mess of bottles around him.

Husk: "Kid, when you're in Hell, time and alcohol work differently"

Ben shook his head in disbelief, watching Husk stagger back to his feet.

Husk: "You better get used to it, or you'll never survive here"

Husk then grabbed another bottle, popping it open with ease and taking a long swig, completely unfazed by the situation.

Ben smirked as he spoke.

Ben: "Well, don't you seem more tolerable to speak to now?"

Husk chuckled slightly, grabbing some ice cubes from a mini fridge under the countertop and hastily putting them inside his drink. He took another swig, letting out a satisfied 'ah'

Husk: "You see, you never talk to me when I'm out of booze, unless you want to see another side of me"

Ben nodded, taking note.

Ben: "Got it. Always keep the drinks flowing if I want to chat with you"

Husk raised his glass in a mock toast.

Husk: "Smart kid. Cheers to that"

Husk took another swig before asking.

Husk: "Anyway, how did you even end up here?"

Ben replied calmly.

Ben: "An interdimensional portal brought me here"

Husk furrowed his eyebrows, glancing at the bottle of booze in his hand as if questioning its expiration date. Then, he turned back to Ben.

Husk: "I'm not sure if you're crazy or if I'm hearing things, but nonetheless, you aren't the luckiest"

Ben shrugged.

Ben: "But hey, now I'm here making friends with a cat who's more interested in booze than conversation"

Husk smiled, a rare genuine expression crossing his face.

Husk: "Can't fault a guy for having his priorities straight"

Husk then raised an eyebrow as he offered.

Husk: "Do you need a drink?"

Ben shook his head with a grin.

Ben: "No, thanks"

Husk chuckled.

Husk: "Not much of a drinker, are you? Kid"

Ben laughed, brushing off the comment.

Ben: "Oh, I drink all the time. Milk, water, banang, fountain of youth, smoothies..."

Husk rubbed his head in confusion.

Husk: "No, I mean al-"

Ben cut him off, continuing his list.

Ben: "Contraband energy drinks, scared monkey sweat..."

Husk finally snapped, slamming his hands on the countertop.

Husk: "NO, ALCOHOL!"

Ben gulped nervously, catching Husk's serious tone.

Ben: "No, I usually steer clear of the devil's drink, yeah"

Husk raised an eyebrow.

Husk: "Don't like the taste or what?"

Ben shrugged casually.

Ben: "Nah, it just lost its allure after I found out it wasn't actually made by the devil"

Husk stuttered in surprise at Ben's confession, unsure how to respond. He sighed deeply.

Husk: "More for me, then"

They then continued talking for a while, sharing stories.

Time Skip:

Husk: "...And that's how I hit the jackpot, but then Alastor brought me here and I lost it all"

Ben winced.

Ben: "That must've sucked"

Husk shrugged.

Husk: "Nah, I got over it. I mean, it's not so bad here"

Ben nodded appreciatively.

Ben: "Thanks, I'll see you around, Husk"

Husk raised his glass in a mock salute.

Husk: "Good luck with that, kid. You'll need it"

Ben smiled and stood up from his seat. He turned around and headed back to where he had last seen Charlie, ready to discuss their plan for dealing with his situation.

On his way there, Ben felt a hand placed firmly on his shoulder.

???: "Found you, honey~"

Ben's reflexes kicked in instantly. Without relying on the watch, he swiftly grabbed the wrist and pivoted, using the person's momentum against him. With a deft movement, Ben hunched back and flipped him to the ground, showcasing surprising strength and agility.

Angel Dust lay sprawled on the floor, holding his head in astonishment.

Angel Dust: "Holy shit, you're strong. I honestly didn't expect to be manhandled like that today"

Ben stood over him, maintaining a firm grip on Angel Dust's wrist.

Ben: "Don't you learn that no, means no?"

Angel Dust chuckled nervously, realizing he underestimated Ben's physical prowess.

Angel Dust: "Just wanted a piece of that cake, no need for all of this"

Ben released his grip, but remained cautious.

Ben: "The pastry is closed. Next time, ask nicely before sneaking up on someone. Now get up"

Angel Dust scrambled to his feet, dusting himself off.

Angel Dust: "Alright, alright. But next time I'll get ya, Ben"

Ben continued on his way, shaking his head at Angel Dust's comment.

Ben: "Alright, I'm definitely keeping my distance from that sex addict if I don't want my domain expanded"

He muttered to himself, making a mental note to steer clear of any future encounters with Angel Dust.

Ben then found Charlie still at her desk, sorting through papers.

Charlie glanced up as Ben approached, concern etched on her face.

Charlie: "Everything okay?"

Ben nodded, though his expression was tense.

Ben: "Yeah, just had a run-in with Angel Dust. Guy's unpredictable"

Charlie chuckled softly, understanding Ben's unease.

Charlie: "He's... unique, that's for sure. Just give him some space, he usually means well"

Ben smirked, trying to lighten the mood.

Ben: "Well, if that's his way of being friendly, I think I'll stick to keeping my distance"

Charlie laughed, appreciating Ben's humor.

Charlie: "Fair enough. So, anyway..."

Charlie quickly organized her papers into a folder and straightened up before walking over to Ben, giving him a sympathetic smile.

Charlie: "You must be pretty tired by now. It's getting late"

Ben glanced out of the window, noticing the perpetually dark crimson sky. His eyes then shifted to the large clock, registering the time.

Ben nodded in realization.

Ben: "I honestly didn't notice. No offense, but it always seems dark around here"

Charlie: "It's alright, I know it's easy to lose track of time around here if you don't have a watch"

Charlie gave him a reassuring smile.

Charlie: "Anyway, a temporary room has been prepared for you. Just follow Niffty, and she'll show you the way"

Ben looked around, about to ask for directions, but before he could speak, Niffty appeared beside him with surprising speed.

Niffty: "Here!"

Ben flinched, startled by her sudden appearance.

Ben: "Oh my God, you're fast!"

Niffty grinned sheepishly.

Niffty: "Yeah, I'm pretty fast. Need that to clean rooms and assassinate people"

Ben chuckled nervously at her casual mention of assassination.

Ben: "Right... Lead the way, then"
