Angela unsure of the entire explanation proposed by Meachum decides to get to the bottom of the situation but without arousing suspicions and continues to work on the mutagen recovered from the wreckage. Upon thorough analysis, she finds that the mutagen although potent is unable to stabilize or reverse the effects of any malaise under the effect of strong light. As soon as she shares the discovery with Meachum, he instructs Angela to weaponize the mutagen with nanites into miniaturized missiles which can act as a delivery system into a host's system. The news comes as a further shock to Angela but owing to not arousing any suspicions, she prepares to start her work, when suddenly she finds Scott aboard the Mary Celeste trying to warn about the impending doom that awaits the entire crew. As Scott reveals the entire revelations to Angela, she is flabbergasted to hear the news combined with the skepticism she had about Meachum's intention. Angela although believes Scott's words urge Scott to gather actual evidence without which he won't be able to prove anything to the world based just on the words of two senile mad men to which Scott retorts that he has already collected underwater footage of the attack on The Nautilus which proves his claims. Unbeknownst to all an entire conversation is recorded by the mercenaries who relay it to their employer. Before they can enjoy their reunion both Angela and Scott are taken hostage by the mercenaries along with a few others but Angela fights off her attackers using her Exo suit's augmented strength. As they sound an S.O.S distress signal to notify the authorities when Meachum prohibits them sternly not to do so threatening to take Rupert's life if they fail to comply so. Angela is bemused by Meachum's behavior when he reveals himself to be Mr. Nero and his entire Machiavellian scheme to use Angela's intelligence to improve the mutagen's waning effect and restore his grandfather's glory and destroy his rivals on a whim. Meachum reveals himself to be the grandson of Joachim Fischer, the lead scientist who had originally developed the mutagen but due to the initial failures of Project GottVlast', he was excommunicated by Hitler and had to escape with his life. After the war was over, he defected to the Allied forces and settled in the USA under Operation Paperclip in which Allied forces recruited German scientists granting them clemency for their war crimes and offering citizenship in return for their contribution to the scientific community. Joachim and his family had assumed new identities and was living peacefully in a quiet neighborhood but inadvertently his affiliation with the Nazi was brought out into the open and had to face social ostracization which led to his family barely surviving. Jeremiah also had to suffer due to his lineage and persecution thus resorting to committing petty crimes. Gradually he climbed up the ranks of the criminal underworld and established himself as the ruthless criminal mastermind with the moniker of Mr. Nero. He further reveals that Neptune Co. Ltd is a shell company operating under Meachum Industries where he funded his scientific research using his illegally obtained riches from his criminal activities. Now that the serum is finally revitalized, he plans to use it to carry forward Project GottVlast to destroy his corporate rivals without any traces leading back to him. Angela, livid with the revelations tries to fight back when she finds her Exo suit to be malfunctioning as Jeremiah reveals that the microchip implanted via surgery is used for controlling the suit and it doubled as a transmitter to listen to her conversations. He orders the mercenaries to keep Angela and Scott tied down in the engine room and prepares to capture the beast by luring it out into the open by dumping the modified mutagen around the cruise liner.
