As Scott and Angela are left helpless, they try to escape without much avail and try to put an end to Meachum's nefarious plans. Angela shares that the mutagen was photosensitive which suddenly strikes a chord with Scott when he finally figures out the creature's attack pattern. Scott realizes that all the attacks were nocturnal which explains that the creature itself has a strong aversion to light owing to the mutagen's photosensitivity while Angela chimes in that the mutagen's waning effect must be why the creature has been returning to consume more leaking mutagen from the sunken remains of the U-boat to sustain its physiology. Meachum's plan is successful when the creature is drawn to the ship and starts attacking it when he instructs the mercenaries to inject the miniaturized mutagen missiles into the creature to make it more docile. Although a few hiccups occur the creature's destructive tantrums are diminished and it starts to respond to Meachum's instructions via the nanite-infused mutagen. As a test of its newly found vigor and destructive capabilities, Meachum sends it to destroy a nearby oil rig of one of his tech rivals which results in a massive infernal spectacle that attracts the attention of the nearby federal authorities. Angela fakes unconsciousness and Scott urges the mercenaries to help them as a ruse only to escape from their captor's clutches but finds out it's already too late for them to stop Meachum. Scott frees the other captured media members to abord the ship and in the ensuing chaos tries to reason with Meachum and begs for his son's life to be spared which somewhat calms down Meachum's egotistical delusions of grandeur but in sleight of trickery obtains the transmitter used to control Angela's Exo suit. Meachum proposes that it doesn't matter now because he's already successful in achieving his goals but Scott reveals it to be a simple distraction when he reveals Angela has prepared a reverse-engineered version of the mutagen to stop the creature in its tracks. As the morning dawns, various federal authorities converge on the revealed ship's location while the creature returns astounding all parties present. Angela fights off the mercenaries using her Exo suit while Scott bargains for his son's life in exchange for handing over the reverse-engineered serum. Meachum instructs the creature to destroy the surrounding military forces and Angela using the opportunity fires a slew of missiles fitted with the reverse-engineered version of the mutagen on the creature which subsequently weakens it. Meachum horrified to see his life's work demolished in front of his eyes goes on a rampage slaughtering civilians but the creature drawn to Meachum's transmitter signal accidentally maws down on him leaving Rupert inches away from being devoured. The military forces plow down on the creature with a multitude of weapons and combined with the photosensitivity from the sun rays the creature finally dies. Angela and Scott reunite finally with their son when they forgive each other's past flaws as the authorities begin evacuation of the crew members returning them to safety.
