Draco looked back at him, mouth slightly open. Harry very slowly stood, and silently held out a hand. He hesitated, but after a moment took his offer up and Harry hauled him upwards. "Hi." Draco said. "Hullo." Harry scratched his head, "You hurt at all?" Draco shook his head, examining himself, "No, I think I'm alright. You?" "I'm fine." Silence. "So how have you been?" Harry branched awkwardly. "I've been ok I guess." "That's good." ... "I'm not quite sure what to say." Draco murmured. "Me either." Harry admitted, "Bit awkward. Never meant to talk to anyone while I was here." "What are you doing in Diagon Alley then?" Draco asked, looking bemused. Harry glanced around, "Long story really." "Oh." Draco shifted, "I'm just out running some errands, but no one's been particularly helpful." He glanced around and it was only then that Harry realized everyone within the vicinity was shooting hateful glances towards the striking blond. "Oh." he said, "Well, that's on them." Draco gave a tiny smile and Harry felt a wave of shock rise in his chest. Draco Malfoy was smiling at him. Not smirking, not making fun of him, he was simply smiling. He had a nice smile. "Thanks Harry. Can I call you that?" Draco said, fidgeting a silver ring on his index finger. "Sure, Harry's fine." he said, "I'm really sorry about running into you." "It's fine," Draco said. He glanced at the invisibility cloak, hanging out of the bag at Harry's side, "I always wondered how you snuck around the school without getting in trouble." Harry gave the tiniest chuckle, "Yeah it comes in handy, but to say we never got in trouble is going a tad far. Filch caught us a good handful of times." Draco gave a small gasp, "That Hogsmede trip in third year! You were wearing the cloak." Harry flushed a bit at the memory. Funny as it had been, it wasn't one of his proudest moments, "Yeah, I thought it was plenty clever, until Snape nearly had me." A similar shade of red rose in Draco's own cheeks, "Yeah, sorry about that. I've actually got a lot to apologize for." "The letter was a pretty good start though." Harry said, "I know we agreed to meet this weekend, but seeing as we're both here, would you like to get tea today and talk... about things?" "Oh, well..." Draco suddenly looked quite nervous. "Unless you've already got plans?" Harry quickly said. "No no!" Draco exclaimed, "I just wasn't expecting the offer. Most tend to avoid me these days." Harry glanced around at the crowd, some still throwing death glares in their direction. Most looked confused though, as if thinking, what is Harry Potter doing talking to a Malfoy? Harry's stomach twisted at the thought, but he plastered on a smile, "No worries, if you want, I know a great place in London, away from the people." Draco nodded gratefully, "Sounds good."________________________________ Soon enough the two of them were sitting awkwardly in a small tea shop, rather than standing awkwardly in the street. The waitress came round and asked for their order, setting a couple of glasses and a water pitcher on the table. "I'll have a small pot of the lavender blend" Harry smiled. She jotted it down and turned to his colder companion. Draco stiffy asked, "Is the dandelion root any good?" "I think it's a lovely blend, but it is a bit of an acquired taste." the waitress grinned flirtatiously. Harry watched in delight as his ears grew slightly red before ordering it and slouching in his seat. The waitress glanced back as she walked away, her ponytail moving in a mesmerizing swishing pattern. "Well, seems like I've picked a good spot then." Harry smiled. "Oh piss off Potter." Draco groaned, pouring a glass of water from their pitcher, "She was just being friendly." "Really?" Harry glanced to the counter where the same girl was whispering to a friend, watching their table, "I must have completely misread her then." Draco slouched further. "Alright fine, no need to give yourself neck pain." Harry laughed as he poured himself a drink of water. "You're an ass." Draco sat up, but resolutely kept his eyes away from the counter. "So, what were you doing in Diagon Alley?" Harry asked. "I was trying to restock some potion ingredients, but was uh, unable to acquire anything." "I see. Well, don't tell anyone but there is a small pop up stand every Tuesday at 3 o'clock run by a witch named Madame Yelena. Has the best prices on the block, and the best supply. I don't imagine she would give you any trouble if you were to ever stop by." "I'll have to remember that. What about you? Where you shopping, or just making an appearance to appease your throngs of admirers?" Draco fiddled with the tablecloth. Harry took a long drink, debating what to say. He eventually settled on the truth. "Was a bit of an accident really. I wasn't in my right mind and tried to apparate home, but ended up in front of Olivander's." Draco leaned forwards, "Did something happen?" His awkward and cold demeanor melted a bit, and his concern became apparent behind the blue of his stare. Harry was taken aback; how on earth could this be the same man who once tried to give him a concussion in Quidditch? "Uh..." he stumbled. Draco's face flushed and he leaned back, "Sorry, I didn't mean to impose." "No, no it's fine, it's just weird hearing it from you." Harry said. The waitress appeared behind him and set down their teapots. "One lavender blend for the dark haired beauty, and one dandelion root for the mysterious blond." She winked and pranced away, squealing to the same friend once she reached the kitchens. Now faces red, both men poured their tea and swirled in sugar and cream. Neither could quite find the words, but eventually they settled into a somewhat less uncomfortable silence. "I am sorry, you know." Draco said, "About the things I did and said. It was wrong, and I see that now. I thought sending a letter would help, but this is something that needs to be done face to face. I was an arse." "Thank you for apologizing. It really does mean a lot to hear it in person." Harry said, "In your letter, you mentioned sending one to Ron and Hermione too?" Draco nodded, "Yeah, I sent them a while before yours, as well as some to Luna and Neville. They both responded rather quickly, but I haven't heard back from Weasl- I mean Ron, or Hermione yet. I wasn't really expecting to though." "Oh, they've both been in Australia for a few weeks actually." Harry explained the situation quickly. "So her parents are doing alright? They'll return home soon?" Draco asked. "Far as I can tell. I haven't heard from them too much either." Harry took a sip of his tea. "Oh." Draco glanced out the window as rain began to fall, "Looks like we'll have to get a bit wet to apparate home." "That's alright. While I have you here, I also want to apologize." Harry said, tugging on his shirt hem. "What for?" Draco looked confused. "Well, I did provoke you more often than not. I could be a right turd as well, purposefully egging on the arguments. And there are things I'm ashamed of as well. I owe you a massive apology. That day, in the men's room? It's not one I like to remember." Draco rubbed his chest, the scars remaining from the Sectumsempra spell tingling at the memory. Harry tried not to notice, although the were concealed beneath his long sweater. He was sure it was stifling in the warm weather. "It wasn't my favorite day either." Draco said, "But it's healed now. It's a good thing Professor Snape showed up when he did I suppose." "A very good thing." Harry nodded, "I am still really sorry though. Every time I think about it just want to hurl. I had no idea what the spell did and yet I still used it. It was absolutely despicable." "You found it in some old potions book right? What happened to it?" Draco asked. "It's gone. I dumped it in the Room of Requirement. Probably burnt to nothing now." Draco nodded, looking relieved, "Ah good. Not to say I didn't deserve it but-" "No no no, you didn't do anything to deserve it!" Harry cut him off, "Nothing warrants a spell like that." Draco chuckled darkly, "Well, I'm not sure about that, but thanks." "I'm serious Malfoy." Harry assured him, "Nothing you've done deserved that kind of a reaction. It was horrible." "Thanks," Draco twirled the ring on his index finger. Harry noticed it was in the shape of a snake. The eyes were carved from emerald, and the whole thing shone like he had polished it this morning. "Where did you get that ring?" He asked. "Ah, it was a gift from Pansy." Draco took it off and handed it to Harry. It was finely crafted and screamed Slytherin. "It's beautiful." Harry handed it back, "She seems like a great girlfriend." Draco spit out a bit of his dandelion root. Harry glanced around, searching for napkins. Thankfully, the waitress noticed and hurried over with some cloths. She tried cleaning up the spill across Draco's front, but he quickly took the napkins and began doing it himself, ears once again tinged red. Harry haphazardly wiped down the plates, but the table cloth was stained yellow. "I'm guessing she's not your girlfriend then?" Harry said as they finished cleaning up. Draco shook his head violently, "Nope not ever." "Really?" Harry said, "I think our entire year thought you were together." Draco laughed, "Oh trust me, they did. We used to get comments about it all the time from every house. She knew how much it annoyed me and started calling me pet names to push the rumor even further." "Seems very in character for her." Harry smiled. "That's just the tip of the iceberg. What about you and Weasl-I mean Ginny?" Harry's smile faded, "We broke up a couple months ago." "Oh, can I ask why?" "Just didn't work out I guess." Harry shrugged. Draco didn't push further. Eventually, their conversation grew more and more stale and enough time had passed they felt it was appropriate to say their goodbyes. "Thanks again for coming with me today." Harry shook his hand. "Thanks for inviting me." Draco let go. As he turned to leave, Harry stopped him. "Would you want to meet up again sometime? I know a great Bakery downtown?" Draco paused, and for a moment Harry was afraid he would turn him down. "That sounds lovely." Draco gave him a real smile and walked out of the shop, into the rain.
