32. To travel

[20k. HOW THE FLIP?? actual question: why do you even read this???]

Lin's POV
The next morning, I was awoken by my son, jumping up and down on my stomach as I soon flickered my eyes open, hearing his satisfied giggles. I looked over, and behind stood Rue, leaning against the wall, standing in the doorway, grinning.
"Oof, little man, morning to you too!", I said to Sebastian, which made him jump around even more. "Sure, I'll be your trampoline today", I laughed, which he joined in to. I smiled towards Rue, nodding.
"Mornin', Niñita", I added, placing my eyes on her fingers, tapping against the wall. She immediately stopped, mouthing something I couldn't quite catch.
"Happy Birthday, Lin!", she quietly exclaimed, with a happy tone to it. "Or, should I say Old Man Miranda?", she jokingly requested, her eyes glimmering from excitement. I chuckled, and noticed Seb stepping off of me, soI could finally sit up.
Vanessa, beautiful as ever, joined the morning gathering, picking up Seb as she fidgeted with my tangly hair - kissing me gently.
"We're off to the airport in one hour; you better get going!", she reminded me. I stretched my arms, excitingly smiling.
"You packed-", I began, but Vanessa finished.
"Everything", she winked. "Happy B-day husband, by the way"
I smiled, standing up. A few days off, finally. Much needed.

I glanced over at Rue, as I was practically throwing the cereal into my mouth - a bit stressed. Just me, putting things off until the moment, such as; packing. I watched her taking the pill put of the small box, filling up a glass of water & quickly swallowed it.
She quickly passed me, while putting her hair up in a neat ponytail, smiling at Sebastian who was bringing me a train and three pieces of a track. I accepted his gift, putting it on the floor by his command of building him one. He ran back to his special train box to get more, so I looked up to see Rue flicking the lights seven times, but I still thought;
She took her meds without us telling her to do it.

As we strolled down the halls of the airport, I, carrying Sebastian on my hip, dragging a suitcase behind me.
I placed my eyes on Rue.
"Hey, you look tired today Niñita", I said, just acknowledging the fact.
"I am", the teenager way. "And you two are going to laugh at the reason"
I raised an eyebrow at her, giving Vanessa a special look.
This could mean one thing. One thing, that meant that she'd been up all night with routines.
But laugh?
"It's silly - I've never flown before", she blushed. I grinned. "And I'm positive that I'm scared of heights. So, I thought that if I stayed up all night I'd be knackered on the plane and sleep through the flight..."
Her bubbly self - explaining herself.
I cut her off, a comforting smile on my face.
"You're a too precious someone, Rue", I said at first, but soon another thought fell right into the open.
"Agreed", Vanessa added, but I knew she was about to add the words I'd thought of. "Routines?", she questioned, right before I was about to.
Rue rolled her eyes, the most teenager way possible.
"Normal", she dragged out the first syllable, shrugging her shoulders.
Good. Not too much. V & I, great minds think alike.
"Sometimes I forget you're 14, either you act much younger or like a complete grownup", Vanessa said out of the blue, which made even Rue giggle like there was no tomorrow.
"How old am I now then?", she asked ironically. I gave her a serious look, the unserious way.
"14. Your inner teenager is showing, Niñita"

"Pssst, V - look!", I whispered to my wife, who looked at where I was pointing. Vanessa put a big grin on her face.
Rue, asleep - after an hour of happily looking out of the window. I've never seen a kid so excited by clouds & tiny cars from above. Now, I couldn't wait for Sebastian to be old enough to understand that he was thousands of meters up in the air. He was currently sat on V's lap, holding a red crayon while filling in a paper of Chuggington in the colouring book that we'd bought at the airport. I mean, we couldn't just leave it on that shelf when it's my son's favourite TV show.
I fiddled with my phone, opening up Twitter.

@Lin_Manuel :
Morning, Twitterrico. Family holiday, heading to Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

@Lin_Manuel :
@Lin_Manuel Rue was scared of flying, but couldn't take her eyes of the view. Face your fears.
Lauugh the fears away 🛫

@Lin_Manuel :
@Lin_Manuel & thanks for the Birthday wishes. Grateful for all of you.

Rue's POV
When we arrived at the hotel, I was quite newly awoken. Almost 3 hours of sleep in a day. But, me and my stupid decisions weren't going to ruin my first time outside my home country.
"Okay - who's ready for some very touristy sightseeing?", Vanessa announced. Lin put his hand up in the air, so did I. He helped Sebastian to do it too, waving his arm like Hermione eagerly does it in the Sorcerer's Stone. Or, like she always does.
"ME!", Lin excitedly exclaimed.
"Let's go, then!"

After a day of a non-stop schedule, I'd still hadn't had a moment to give him his Birthday present. It was already pretty late, and we'd just come back to the hotel after dinner. I'd already put on my very oversized t-shirt and poofy pajama pants, ready to fall asleep.
Vanessa was reading a book she'd bought at an art gallery today, Sebastian already asleep on her stomach as they sat on the sofa. I looked over at my suitcase, tucked under my bed.
Tap the bed 23 times or they'll die.
Tired me did that.
I glanced over at the balcony where Lin was talking loudly to his parents on FaceTime, we'd said hello & spoken for a moment, but soon Lin had noticed how tired I was, gave me a hug, and left to go outside.
A brief moment later, I got an idea. I picked up his birthday gift, and a paper that I quickly scribbled down something I'd planned on saying all day in my swirly handwriting.

Lin,
Happy Birthday!
I was meant to give this to you earlier, and when you see this I'm probably fast asleep.
I've only known you for a few months, but one thing I'm positive about - you like, no, love history. Amirite?
Thanks for being you.
Rue

And I knew that I'd put another one inside the gift, one that said:

(& I'll buy you one every year from now on)

I placed the present on his suitcase in his & Vanessa's room.
I smiled. I was such a cliché sometimes - and I was proud over it.
Everyone in this family was a cliché, to be honest.
It's been a great day. Flicked the light switch 7 times before walking out, just to be sure if whatever my mind could come up with.
"G'night, V", I nodded towards her.
"Ni-night Niñita", and so I let my head fall to the pillow, finally letting my brain rest.

Soon, dreams of a castle in the clouds filled up my mind.

Lin's POV
I ended the phone call, seeing both of my parents grinning happily as they said goodbye.
I laid my eyes on the clock, realising how it wasn't that late - but the sun was on the verge of going down.
I melted at the sight of Sebastian slumber like a puppy on Vanessa.
"C'mon Homeboy, let's put you to bed", I whispered calmly as I scooped him up. His closed, resting eyes, all at rest as I placed him in his little bed next to ours. "Sweet dreams", I said, kissing his forehead. Mini version of me & Vanessa.
Suddenly I noticed a pile of presents on my suitcase.
"Rue started the pile, I added mine & Seb's when I saw hers", Vanessa explained, beaming at me.
"My family's the best", I smiled, reading Rue's note. Quietly I unwrapped the neatly done present, the most Rue way possible.
Soon, a book was in front of me - which said The New York Times - Lin-Manuel Miranda with the date of my Birthday.
I opened it, reading the first page. I kept flicking through.
"This is so cool", I managed to say after a while. A number of the New York Times from every birthday I've ever had.
"She was rambling on how she was the worst at finding presents and came to me asking if it was good enough", Vanessa said giggling.
"That's so her", I added, starting to read the first number. "Is she asleep?", my wife nodded. "I'll be back in a minute - just gotta go hug Rue", I kissed Vanessa on the cheek, tip-toeing to Rue's room in the big suite we'd be living in for the next few days.
She'd been so tired she'd forgotten to turn off the lights. A little grin was put on my face.
I hugged her lightly, wishing for her not to wake up or have any bad dreams that night. She looked way too peaceful for that.
I glanced over at her her notepad, scribbling down a 'Thank you - Lin'.
Goodnight Niñita, I said to her in my mind.
I left her side, switching off the light. Quietly closing the door, really begging it to not squeak - which it didn't, thankfully.
I walked back to V's, letting my hair out on the way. I peaked my head inside, head-banging in a silly way as I quietly rapped The Room Where It Happens, giggling as Vanessa raised her eyebrow at me.
"Weirdo-", she said, laughing. I jumped up on the bed, next to her.
"You know you love me"

-----
Hello there!

A FLUFF!FAM!CUTENESS!-chapter. (Tho bit short. Apologies)
Hopefully it was appreciated. 'Cuz I felt like I needed to write some🌸
My brain: Fluff? Fluff. (TFIOS pun very intended)💭

I also included both Rue & Lin POV's - Mainly because I like multiple perspectives?? More of V's is on the way, promise💐

C's own opinion:
Welcome to this. So, yes. I have opinions about things😌
In most adopted by Hamilton fanfics, authors kinda forget about Vanessa. That they focus more on Lin - AND I get that, he's the famous one, but V's amazing. She's lovely🌈
Therefore, I try to include Vanessa a lot💓
(Mainly since me & my mum aren't that close. She's not the one I talk to when I'm sad, or just need to talk. That's my dad. He's always there for me. (Okay this got so so personal, sorry)
And I feel that Rue deserves a close relationship to both V & L?? She deserves everything tbh🌊)

School's finally finishing up, only two weeks left... THEN SUMMER BREAK FOR TEN WEEKS 🎉(gotta love Sweden, y'all)

Question for lé day;
Place you'd like to visit?🗺
Me? New York🗽

Have the loveliest of days, and don't forget to comment - feedback or critique, whatever, I love both - and vote!💗

Sincerely,
C
