Chapter 15

Chaeyoung rests her head on her palm, her elbow digging into the mattress beneath her as she watches the gentle rise and fall of Jungkook's chest. Her gaze travels towards his slightly opened lips, his soft snores filling the quiet space. Her smile builds on her face as she continues to watch him sleep.

Chaeyoung places her hand carefully on Jungkook's chest, her fingers lightly tracing imaginary lines against the white shirt. She bites her lips as she let her hand travel upwards, faintly touching his lips with her fingertip. She pulls her hand quickly when Jungkook begins to gently smack his lips in his sleep, and Chaeyoung bites back her smile.

She slides off the bed carefully, stopping momentarily at her own reflection in the long mirror. The butterflies dance in her guts as she gazes at herself wearing his pink pajamas.

When Jungkook showed her his set of pajamas for her to choose from last night, her eyes immediately set on the pink pajamas with cute white bunnies and she had laughed, the word 'cute' slipping from her mouth and Jungkook had taken that chance to tease her.

"See, I was right when I said you think that I'm cute."

"I was referring to the pajamas!" She bites her cheeks to stop herself from smiling.

"And the pajamas are mine. Your point is?"

"My point is you can't last a day without being delusional."

"You don't get tired of denying, huh?"

She sees Jungkook stirring on the bed through the mirror. She turns around and he stretches himself, groaning before he slowly props himself up on his elbows. A lazy grin pulls on his lips and with his sleepy voice, he croaks, "Morning."

She forgets how to breathe for a second, finding it strange that she's liking how he sounds like in his sleepy voice.

Chaeyoung smiles and lets a soft 'morning' replies to him. She wants to throw herself into him, because she knows that he will catch her and wrap her in his arms, just like how he'd secured her in his warm embrace last night.

But she doesn't move from where she is, suddenly feeling the awkwardness and shyness creeping up at the back of her neck.

Jungkook runs his fingers through his messy hair. "Can we have breakfast together?"

She nods, quickly exiting the room when Jungkook gets up from the bed. He prepares the breakfast while humming to a song and Chaeyoung sits there watching him, glancing away when he turns towards her.

While having breakfast, the awkwardness slowly dissipates and Chaeyoung forgets everything as they talk about his smudged nails, how the rose on his thumb doesn't look as nice anymore and she complains and laughs when he argues, reminding her how he did ask her to remove it and repaint it last night but she refused.

Everything feels nice. Maybe it's more than nice. She feels great, she feels truly appreciated, she feels so alive with him around no matter how hard she tries to deny. It's hard not to feel so alive being around Jungkook who's filled with life.

It's hard not to leave the door to her heart slightly ajar for him.

Chaeyoung fails to hide the smile adorning her lips when Jungkook pulls her into a kiss just before she leaves. She thinks she's gone crazy when she can still feel his lips even when she's back at home and all alone in her house. She probably has lost her mind when she can hear his voice, laughing softly and talking with a low voice, buzzing in her ears. Chaeyoung shakes her head.

When she feels a weird reluctance to shower because of how she thinks she doesn't want that soft and pleasant scent of him stuck to her body to disappear, Chaeyoung cringes at herself before she hastily makes her way to the shower while calling herself stupid in her mind.

After showering, Chaeyoung's mind takes her back to the time she was feeling a bit cold that she curled on the bed, accidentally brushing her forehead against the side of Jungkook's body and although she was not fully awake, she was aware of what was happening. Jungkook had pulled the cover up her shoulder and he'd shifted even closer towards her and she had felt his arm around her.

Chaeyoung realizes she's grinning stupidly at the mirror as she's blowing her hair dry. She puts down the hair dryer and laughs to herself, squeezing her eyes closed and lightly slapping her face, burying her face into her hands before she groans, the smile never leaving her countenance. Get yourself together, Chaeyoung!

This occurrence is not unfamiliar at all. This kind of thing happened similarly when she had previously fallen for someone. At this realization, the smile on her face slowly fades. Her eyes flit back towards her own reflection in the mirror.

"Oh my god," she breathes.

When Jungkook's face surfaces in her mind once again, she gulps as another realization hits her like wave crashing violently.

"Oh my god." It comes out as a shaky whisper as she places a hand over her heart.

She thinks of her past with Chanyeol, she thinks of what happened in between that and now, she thinks of the upcoming wedding that's only days away, she feels a rush of panic, bubbling and latching onto the walls of her throat like stubborn phlegm.

An upsetting feeling resides deep in her guts as she dials Jisoo's number, listening to Jisoo repeating her name from the other line, from sounding casual to panic in mere seconds before Chaeyoung finally hears her own voice responding.

"Jis-"

It's cut off, not by Jisoo, but by herself. Her voice breaks, and she realizes that she's tearing up.

Chaeyoung mentioned during their breakfast that she wouldn't be available for that evening since she will be singing at a club. She had asked him if he would be interested to swing by, and Jungkook had teasingly told her no. He thought that it would be a good idea to show up at the club and surprise her there.

But now he begins to think that she's pranking him, because she's nowhere there and the singer for that night is a different singer. Or is he actually at the wrong place? Jungkook turns to the bartender. "Shouldn't someone else be singing here tonight? A girl?"

The bartender glances at the male singer sitting on a stool, singing about heartbreak. "Yeah, I heard that Chaeyoung's supposed to be singing here today because he," the bartender cocks his head to the singer, "said he couldn't make it. Last minute's change."

"Oh," Jungkook manages, frowning. He pulls his phone out of his jacket, dials Chaeyoung's number but it goes to voicemail. He furrows his brows. Is she so disappointed that she's not picking up calls? As he strolls outside, he tries once again and it rings, but she's still not picking it up. He sends her a text instead; I went to the club to hear u sing, but u weren't there :(

Jungkook furrows his brows because she is online but leaves him on read. He sends another message; hey, is everything fine?

- are u upset that it's a last minute's change?

- I'll drag that dude out of the club for u

- he doesn't even sound good :<

- u should see everyone's faces

- they're obviously not entertained

- hey

- u okay there?

He stares at his phone, twirling some unwanted thoughts invading his mind. Is it me? He questions himself. It can't be possible, he thinks. It can't be possible that he's the cause when she left his home with a smile. But the thought is trying to make a bed in his head, and he wonders why.

- did I upset u?

He doesn't really expect her to reply a second after, doesn't expect her to reply it a minute after he's sent his messages, and he also doesn't expect to get a reply half an hour after that, but he most certainly doesn't expect to get no reply at all.

- hey

- we're good, right?
