Chapter 11

The wedding is nearing and Chaeyoung is freaking out over the phone that Jungkook has yet to secure himself a good suit. "I swear I forgot. But, I do have a suit I can wear, I don't think they're that bad."

"But I want you to have something new," she whines on the other line. "Also, I think I saw something that's going to suit you."

"Oh..." Jungkook smirks. "So I have been on your mind a lot for you to think of what will or will not suit me."

She's silent for a second. Jungkook can vividly imagine how flushed her face is at the time.

"Don't flatter yourself," she says with a scoff that sounds far from being a serious scoff. "I just don't want my date to look like a 5 in front of my ex. If you're attending the wedding with me, you gotta look like a 10."

"Sure, whatever you say, sweetheart," he laughs.

"S- sw-?" she pauses and is silent again, longer this time and there's only a soft sound of her breathing. "I don't trust your fashion sense too," she awkwardly adds and Jungkook tries not to laugh out loud.

It doesn't offend him in any way, he just finds it so hilarious how she's putting this much effort to get herself out of this situation. He imagines those naturally puffed up cheeks of hers slowly going pink before they go red. He remembers when he softly pressed a kiss on her cheek, the warmth of it. Maybe too warm, even.

Jungkook doesn't always dress to impress. Heck, he doesn't even remember the last time he did that. Probably when he was still employed. Chaeyoung's harmless insult of his fashion sense doesn't even affect him emotionally. He doesn't care much of what people think. He favors his comfort over anything else when it comes to the clothes he's going to be wearing. But he does have some stylish outfits saved for rare days.

When he decides to show up in front of the department store that they've agreed to meet, wearing a simple outfit but knows so well that he looks dashing in it, it really is not to impress anyone including her. At least, that's what he thinks.

Maybe despite the insult doesn't seem like she really meant it, he still wants to assure her that he will not let her down.

Chaeyoung doesn't really hide the shock on her face when he approaches her, wearing a black leather jacket over a black shirt paired with ripped navy-blue jeans. He had considered on not leaving his bucket hat, but eventually he did, opting to roughly push his hair to the back, fully exposing his forehead this time.

"What are you wearing?" she breathes.

Jungkook chuckles. "An outfit that doesn't fit your taste."

She looks up at him in confusion. "I never said that."

"I thought you said," he makes an air quote, "I don't trust your fashion sense."

She visibly gulps. "That was obviously a joke," she forces out a nervous laughter that makes a smile so threatening to pull on his face.

"Oh, so you're saying you love my fashion sense?" He raises a brow. "Do you like what I'm wearing?"

"That's not what I said," she says with a scrunch of her face and runs her gaze down his outfit with a shrug. "It's fine, I guess."

"You trust my fashion sense," he says as a statement.

"Maybe," she shrugs once more before she lets out a soft grunt. "Come on, let's not waste time."

"Do I still look like a 5?"

"Probably 7."

"The way you looked at me when I first arrived tells me that I'm at least a 9," Jungkook smirks.

"You were hallucinating."

"Sure," he laughs.

"Well, whatever, let's find you a suit." She pulls the sleeve around his wrist.

Once they're inside, Jungkook follows her around as she searches for the thing that she said will actually suit him while at the same time, pulling hangers of clothes off the racks and throwing them all into his arms.

"I can't find it," she groans and Jungkook watches her with an amused smile as she mutters to herself, "Why can't I find it? Why can't I find it?! I swear it's in this store. Dang it."

Chaeyoung finally turns to him and gestures at the changing room. "Someone must have bought it. That's alright. Try them all."

Jungkook does as he's told as he goes into one of the empty rooms and starts changing. He opens the door and spreads his arms at her with a brow lifted.

Chaeyoung makes a thinking face, shaking her head. "Hm, try the other one."

It goes on and on, like a déjà vu as he keeps on going into the room to change into the suits she's picked, stepping out of the room just to see her wrinkling her nose in disapproval -not to mention, she does it cutely – before she asks him to change into a different one.

"This is nice," Jungkook says as he fixes the necktie and checks himself out in the mirror.

"Not as nice as the one I saw the other day," she huffs. She walks away and gets him a different blazer and slim fit pants, tells him to change into them.

In the end, she sighs heavily, disappointment is evident in her voice as she mutters to herself of how nothing beats that one particular suit that she saw the other day.

Jungkook groans. "Make up your mind. This will actually do. And so are the five suits I tried!"

Chaeyoung's forehead creases for a second before she shakes her head vigorously. "No, no, no. You're just going to look like a... 7."

Jungkook narrows his eyes at her.

"7.5 tops!"

He sends her a look of disbelief before he flatly says, "You round that off, I'll be an 8. If I do my hair, I'll be a 9."

"Still less than 10."

He throws his hands in the air. "Why do you act like we are the ones getting married?"

And with that, her lips are zipped, eyes quickly averted to somewhere else. She pouts, and Jungkook sighs with a smile as he softly shakes his head.

"Look," Jungkook says as he stands in front of her while she's sitting with her shoulder slumped. "Do you trust me?"

She looks up at him at the same time he kneels before her, their eyes following each other's. There's a shift of expression, clearly shown in her eyes as she swallows.

"Do you trust my fashion sense?" he asks. "If you do, let's go back to my apartment and I'll show you the suits that I have. You decide which one that I should wear to the wedding."

"This is where you live?" she asks as soon as she's inside of his apartment.

It's not as spacious as hers, but it looks beyond her expectation. She expected some basic, improperly decorated apartment with lots of things missing, like maybe empty walls and dull paints and lack of furniture. However, it's modern, everything inside looks simple but very, very pleasing to the eyes, very neat. Looks manly, feels manly apart from the feminine pleasing smell of his air freshener which makes the whole place seems very comfortable and feels a lot like home.

"Why?" he bursts into soft giggles. "You thought my place will look like a dumpster because I was almost homeless?"

"No!" she shakes her head. "I just didn't expect it to look like this." She gestures with her arm as she twirls on the floor, looking at all the frames on the walls. "Are those pictures you took?"

"Yeah," he says, nodding as he, too, takes a look at some of the frames hanging off the wall as though he has just realized them.

"They're all beautiful," she genuinely says and warmly smiles at him, and it's her first time to really see him slightly blushing at a compliment, and she doesn't know how to react to that.

He stares at her long, a smile playing on his lips. "Thanks. I'm a freelance photographer, remember?"

Chaeyoung simply chuckles before she turns her attention back to the photos, admiring them briefly one by one.

"Do you want anything to drink? Don't ask for wines, I don't have it."

"It's too early for wine anyway," Chaeyoung chuckles.

"Yeah. So, what do you want?"

She lightly bites her lips as she slowly approaches him at the kitchen counter. "What do you have? I can't just be saying anything that I want. What if I said I want Starbucks?"

"I can run downstairs, down the street and grab Starbucks for you," he smirks, and she tries not to show how that alone is actually causing her heart to make a weird thump behind her chest.

Chaeyoung playfully scoffs at him. "You're funny."

"You just realized that?" Jungkook lifts a brow, and she ducks away from his gaze, suppressing a smile. "Seriously, name anything, Chaeyoung."

She furrows her brows. "Anything?"

"Yeah, I can give you anything," he says as he leans his hip at the counter behind him. "Oh, except for one thing."

Chaeyoung leans over the countertop and props her chin on her palm and grins at him. "Wine?"

"No," he smiles a bit. "I can give you everything, anything that you want except for..." he trails off, eyes looking straight into hers.

"For...? Food?" she chuckles.

He shakes his head. "Anything except for my heart."

The grin on her face disappears instantly. Her face is visited by a frown and she's not sure why it makes her feel so down all of a sudden. She thinks of the upcoming wedding and the whole deal between them. She knows she's not supposed to feel this way. It's weird. It doesn't make sense how the statement instantly switches off whatever good mood she was in earlier.

Fake, she hears the voice in her mind. They're only fake dating each other. His statement shouldn't even bother her in any way. Even so, her mouth speaks before she is able to stop it.

"And why is that?" she asks, trying to sound unbothered.

Jungkook looks at her long, the smile on his face is still there. "Well, isn't it obvious?" he asks her softly.

She responds to him in her mind. Because we're only fake dating, so your heart is off-limits.

Jungkook seems to wait for her to say something, but Chaeyoung stays silent.

"I mean, I can't give you something that you already have. Based on logic alone, that's impossible, right?"

Chaeyoung gulps, and maybe her head spins a little, especially when Jungkook's gaze doesn't waver. It only makes her heart thump even harder. She wants to laugh, she thinks she needs to laugh, because he was probably joking just like the jokester he is, but her stomach knots, and the way her heart beats dangerously makes it impossible to laugh.

"So," he opens the refrigerator and breaks the long gaze, "what do you want to drink? I personally would recommend banana milk. My favorite."

Chaeyoung turns her attention towards the variety of drinks in the refrigerator, rounds the counter and looks back at him as her hand extends to reach the drink of her choice. "I'll have this."

Jungkook nods as his eyes are fixated on the drink in her hand, a small smile forms on his lips. "Strawberry milk. Right. I'll keep that in mind."

"So," Chaeyoung clears her throat and quickly throws her gaze at somewhere else. "Um... the suit."

"Right, right. The suit," Jungkook laughs. "I almost forgot. Come on. I'll show you."

Chaeyoung tries hard not to think of what he has just said to her. She's not even sure if he was telling the truth or he was just playing around, trying to be funny like the usual. She wants to settle for the latter, but something in his eyes earlier tells her to put her faith in the former. She shakes her head a little, pushing those unimportant thoughts away, tries to focus on something else. She looks around his room as she leans at the doorframe, sipping on the strawberry milk.

"Do you live alone?" she asks.

"Yep. Why do you ask? Do you want to live here with me?" he says with a smirk.

Chaeyoung rolls her eyes dramatically at him, looking away when she feels her face heats. "No. I asked because you were almost homeless. You probably wouldn't be in that situation if you have a roommate. You could split the rent. So, why don't you have any roommate?"

Jungkook's smirk just got bigger as he briefly looks at her with narrowed eyes while he's in the middle of looking for the suits in his wardrobe. "Ooh, is that concern I heard just now?"

"It's called curiosity, Jungkook. Write that down, stick it in your mind."

He merely laughs. "I used to have roommates. Namjoon moved out because he got promoted. Seokjin moved out because he got married."

"You don't plan to find a new roommate?"

"I've placed ads everywhere, but no one has contacted me so far. And it's been months," he says as he takes out one suit. "You want to apply?"

Her brows knit. "Apply for what?"

"Wanna be my roommate?"

Chaeyoung scoffs, pretending to scratch her nose when a smile almost breaks on her face. "No thanks."

"So, which one?" Jungkook asks, holding up two suits.

Chaeyoung blinks her eyes as she looks back and forth between the two suits that he's holding. After a moment, she picks the one on his right hand. "But I'm not sure. I have to see it first if it's gonna make you a 10 or less."

Jungkook's bottom lip juts out as he shrugs. "Okay."

Chaeyoung's eyes widen when she realizes that he's about to change right in front of her, dropping the two suits onto his bed before he took off his jacket. She instantly twirls and awkwardly says, "I... Um, I'll wait in the living room."

When Jungkook comes out of his room, Chaeyoung's eyes follow him as he walks from her left to stand right in front of her.

"Well? Am I a 10 now?" he asks with one hand slipped into the pocket.

Chaeyoung stares, from head to toe, doesn't miss the tiny smirk that seems to have permanently plastered on his face. She cocks her head to one side and slightly narrows her eyes. "Something's off. It's probably the tie. Do you have other neckties?"

Jungkook looks down at his tie and runs his fingers along it. "What's wrong with this?"

She curls her lips inward as she lets out a long hum. "I don't know. It looks like it doesn't belong there."

"Luckily, I have a good collection of neckties. Come. Choose for me."

She follows him again into his room and he opens his closet, showing her exactly five neckties. She lifts a brow. "That's all? And you call it a collection?" she grins.

"It is a collection. There are five here. Six, including this," he gestures at the one hanging off his neck. "So, pick one from these five. Honestly, I think I'd wear this." He takes one that's bright yellow, scattered with tiny cute pink bunnies.

Chaeyoung bursts into a fit of giggles as her jaw drops while staring at the cute pattern. "What even is this?!" she laughs. "Who'd wear this to weddings??"

"If no one ever did, that'd be me, obviously." His own smile broadening on his face, beautiful teeth shown.

"No!" She shakes her head, covering her mouth. "Don't you dare!"

"Why not?" He feigns hurt, his big eyes widening at her in fake disbelief. "Oh, come on, think about it. I could help you."

"In what way?"

"Look, if I wear this tie, I'll stand out. Everyone's attention will be on your date. Me."

"No... You're just going to embarrass me!" She picks the slim tie. "This is good. Wear this with the suit." She pushes it to his chest and quickly retreats her hand when Jungkook holds the tie and her hand.

"Come on," Jungkook whines. "No one's gonna care for the groom on his wedding day. Give it a consideration," he rubs both his palms, giggling on his own as he does so.

"No!" she firmly says, still trying to stop herself from laughing as she imagines him in that tie during the wedding. Looks ridiculous and hilarious. "Don't be ridiculous and don't try to be cute."

He widens his grins at her with a head tilt. "You think I'm cute?"

Chaeyoung bites the insides of her cheek. "I think you're delusional."

"Ah... but you did say that I'm cute."

"I never said anything like that," Chaeyoung says quickly. "I said don't try to be cute."

"So, basically you think that I'm cute, that's why you want me to stop trying to be cute."

"You're twisting my words and you're annoying," she points at him, ignores him when he teasingly raises his brow at her. She frowns and quickly spins her heels on the floor and heads out of the room.

"So, can I wear this tie?" He asks loudly when she's already outside.

The frown on her face seconds ago vanishes as she begins to laugh. "No! Absolutely not!"

"Aw," he complains from inside the room. "You're no fun!"

Chaeyoung doesn't remember the last time she's had a good laugh like today.
