chapter nine
chapter nine || flashback pt. 1
A 4 year old girl stood in the middle of a field filled with flowers. She spun around, her dress twirling with her body.
She bent down and touched a patch of flowers, making them float off the ground and weave themselves into a crown. The little girl giggled as the crown floated to the top of her head.
"She's going to be very powerful one day," the mother smiled as she sat ontop of the picnic blanket.
The father smiled, staring at his beautiful wife. "Just like you."
The mother turned to him smiling, but it soon faded away. "People are going to want her," she said with furrowed eyebrows. "They will do anything to have her."
The father's eyes harden. "And we will protect her. Nobody is going to mess with her on our watch."
The mother smiled at her husband. "How did I get so lucky?" She said as she cupped his face in her hands.
"I ask myself the samething," he replied back, kissing her softly.
"Mommy! Daddy!" The little girl called out for her parents, pointing to a bear that was now coming there way.
The bear growled, her cubs behind her back. The father quickly got up, about to turn and protect his family but his daughter beat him to it.
"No!" He yelled as he watched his daughter walk to the family of bear.
The little toddler walked slowly to them, not an ounce of fear was in her body. She stopped walking as she stood in front of them. She reached her hand out towards the bear, the bear looked at it quietly before putting her paw agains Belle's small hands, now knowing that the humans were not there to harm.
The little girl's mother watched the beautiful scene, a hand over her mouth and tears filled her eyes. She took a look at her husband next to her who was watching in as much amazement as she was, minus the tears of course.
They shared a look, smiles on their faces. They always knew their little girl was special but now as they looked at the scene of their daughter playing with a family of bears, did they truly realize, that she was not only special, but rare.

A five year old Belle walked through the front door coming home from school. She walked to the kitchen where a plate of cookies and a cup of milk was waiting for her, a usual routine her and her mom have.
"Mommy?" The little girl asks, taking a bite of her cookie.
The mom smiles at her dughter. "Yes my sweet Belle?"
"Why can I do things other kids can't?"
The mother sighs, not quite knowing how to tell her five year old daughter she possesses powers beyond people's wildest dreams. "Well," the mother start, putting her daughter on her lap. "You see, my sweet Belle, you are special. You were born between a very powerful line of witches and a very powerful line of shape-shifters."
"Withches? Shape-shifters?" The little girl asks, not quite understanding.
"Have you ever wondered why you have such a great connection with animals and how you can understand them? Or did you ever wonder why you can move things or make things appear?"
The little girl shakes her head. "I thought everyone can do that."
The mother smiles. "Not quite."
"If I'm a witch, does that mean I'm going to turn green?" The little girl asks horrified.
The mother throws her head back in laughter. "No, no my sweet Belle, your skin will forever be fair."
The young Belle lets out a breath of relief. "Oh thank goodness."
§
"Mommy? Can we sleep under the stars tonight?" A six year old Belle asked her mother.
The mother smiled. "Of course my sweet Belle."
"Yes!" The young Belle cheered. "I'll go get the blankets!"
The mother laughed at her daughter excitement.
The six year old came running towards her mother, almost tripping. The mother took a blanket and put it down on the ground, throwing pillows atop for their heads. They both laid down and covered themselves in blankets because it was quite chilly.
"Mommy? Can you tell me the story of how you and daddy met?"
The mother smiled. "Of course, I haven't told that story in awhile."
The little girl turned toward the side so she can see her mom.
The mother smiled at her sweet daughter. "It was here in Louisianna. Your father he came from France to visit to see some friends in the town Loire."
"That's where grammy lives!"
The mother nods. "Now Loire is known for having supernatural creature, much like us but the downside is that its so small. One of the reasons we moved here."
Belle nods.
The mother continued. "Your father went to our store to buy a gift for his friend and I was working at the cash register. I remember looking at him. I remember staring in his eyes, they reminded me of an ocean a clear blue ocean," the mother said dreamily.
"I think he felt the same way--"
"I did," Belle's father cut in. "I remember looking into your eyes, everyone always thinks brown eyes are boring but not yours, niether of yours for you have golden specks in them."
Belle's mother smiled at her husband.
"It was love at first sight Belle, and that was a beautiful thing," her father said.
Belle frowned. "But people say love at first sight isn't real."
Belle's mother smiled at her daughter. "People also say witches or shape-shifters aren't real."
Belle's father noded. "People don't believe anymore Belle, now adays they need proof and if they don't get it then they don't believe it's real."
Belle's mothers noded. "Never stop believing Belle, because believing can take you a long way," Belle's mother smiled before kissing Belle's forehead. "Now go to sleep my sweet Belle."
And Belle did just that.
§
"Mommy, can you read me a bedtime story?" a six year-old Belle asked her mother, before crawling in bed with her Hello Kitty pajamas on
"Sure," her mother replied, tucking the blankets up to her child's chin.
"Once upon a time," the young mother began. "There was a sweet little princess and her name was--" Her mothers story-telling got cut off by a large crash.
The young mother's eyes frantically widened, pulling the young Belle out of bed and quickly putting a protection spell on the room.
"What's going on?" The little girl asked terror running through her body making her shake. "Mommy, whats happening?"
Belle's mother gently put her only daughter on the floor. "Now, listen to me my sweet Belle," Belle's mother chokes out, voice shaking in panic. "I need you to climb out the window and run away, run as far as you can and make sure you cover your scent."
The innocent girl's eyes filled with tears. "But what about you?"
The mother gently brushed her shakey hands through her daughters hair. "I'll be fine darling," she lied, knowing full well what was about to happen. "I need you to go, okay?"
"But-but," little Belle stuttered, tears now pouring down her face.
"I need you to go my sweet Belle," the mother replied, tears filling her eyes as she opens the window and puts her daughter on the tree to climb down. "I love you," she whispers as she watches her daughter's small figure run away.
The mother turns around and sees the protection spell shatter, a pack of partly shaped werewolves filling the room. She stood there, shoulders back and head held high knowing full will that she would not be making it through the night. "You'll never find her," she firmly told the blind man in front of her. "You'll never find her, Deaucalion."
