Hope
Glen walked backwards and forwards in front of Patty Rapid's desk. "These are correct? You're sure?"
Patty nodded. "Thanks for the vote of confidence." She chuckled and said, "Science doesn't lie, Glen."
"Sorry, Patty." He ran his hands over his skull in bewilderment. "The DNA from the hair on the dead man's clothes has blown me away, that's all." Glen sighed, and said, "But first things first. Come on, Sean. We better go straight over to the Hawkins residents. I can't have them wait any longer." Glen gave the forensic pathologist a look of approval. "Thanks, Patty. I owe you one."
The house was as Glen and Sean remembered it from their first visit. Patricia sat and fidgeted with her fingers while Richard searched their faces.
Glen cleared his throat before saying, "I'm sorry for the wait."
Patricia tensed; Richard wrapped his arms around her and eyed the detectives.
"We've got the DNA results on our body." Glen smiled as he said, "It's not Beau."
They stared at him and then both faces lit up. Patricia screamed and threw her arms around Richard's neck. He let out a huge breath of air.
Glen watched as they hugged each other and cried. He let them have their moment, and then said, "Richard. Patricia." When he got their attention he said, "We've matched this dead man to another family; one of two brothers who are also on our missing person's list." Glen paused and looked from one to the other. "As yet we don't know which brother but, we're running with the belief there is a connection to Beau."
"What are you saying?"
"We think one or both of these missing men are known to Beau."
"I hope you're not saying Beau had anything to do with this person's death?" Patricia shot.
"No. Not saying that." Glen held up his hand. "Not yet anyway."
Patricia gasped. Her eyes pinched as she jutted her chin at the detective. "Are you saying because that body is not Beau, you now think he's a killer? I won't have that!"
"Patricia, I'm just trying to do my job. I have to ask questions and can't rule anything out." Glen held out his palms. "There's a connection and someone's son, is dead. Please."
"I'm sor... sorry. I've just found out my boy's not that dead body to have him labelled a killer. I can't believe it. Won't!"
"I do understand the shock of that thought, Patricia." Glen gave her an understanding nod. "Let's start again. Have either of you ever heard Beau mention the names Baum or Cory Shevlin?"
"No." Richard shook his head and looked at his wife. Patricia shook hers.
"How about Sally Trappes or Ricky Snider?"
Richard studied Glen in thought and then said, "If these people were connected to Beau during his drug addiction years or the syndicate fighting then I doubt very much Beau would have ever mentioned them to us." He let out a heavy breath and dropped his shoulders. "There's so much we don't know about Beau during that time."
Glen nodded. "Thank you. That's all I needed to ask." He and Sean stood in unison.
Richard seized each of their hands. "Thank you so much, for everything you've done. Are doing. I can't tell you how happy this news has made us." He smiled and nodded. "It gives us hope. Hope that Beau is still alive."
